This week I wanted to kick off talking about the cover. Modern covers tend to have a bad reputation. Perhaps there is an element of me being biased, but I love this cover by Lenil Yu! Visually it draws the eye with the dual bursts of gunfire. Secondly having Wolverine and Sabretooth side by side in their old Team X garb is going to have readers and potential readers curious. On the subject of Team X and my bias, this issue starts off strong. Wolverine? Check. Sabretooth? Check. Maverick? Check. Personally, though I would have liked more of the story dedicated to the flashback. Maybe an element where the events of the flashback inform the current goings-on. But who am I to call out Percy on how to tell a story? Really the Team X...

I am a sucker for a good old-fashioned brawl between Wolverine and Sabretooth. They are actually few and far between when compared to other great comic book rivalries. Here is hoping that this is one for the ages! Just as a bug that is affecting all X-books at the moment is the timing. Again the cover carries the ‘Fall of X’ banner and on the credits page we get a caption explaining this story takes place after X-Force #50 and before the new Powers and House of X books. I have said before how wider continuity doesn’t bother me too much when it comes to reading Wolverine, but it can just take you out of the moment every now and then. It’s a minefield when you consider ‘Sabretooth War...

Wolverine is slated to make a massive comeback this year with Hugh Jackman set to reprise the iconic role in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, on the comic book side of things, fans are already accusing Marvel of McU-fying Wolverine with the reveal of his new updated look from an upcoming comic issue.
Wolverine as depicted in Marvel Comics’ Sabretooth War storyline
Wolverine is set to get a suit of armor for the final chapters of the Sabretooth War storyline in the comics. However, the new look is reminiscent of the armored look given to Superman in DC’s New 52 reboot, while being similar to the MCU’s Iron Man suit. As a result, fans are pretty divided regarding Wolverine’s new armored look, and here is what they are saying about it on social media.

This book is like one of those film trailers you see over and over months before the film itself actually comes out. I’ve been hearing about Crossover for a while, and anticipation has been building steadily. Unlike most trailers, though, advance word didn’t give away all the good stuff to come, just that there was good stuff to come. Written by Donny Cates and drawn by Geoff Shaw, this is from a creative team with good form. Responsible for Image series God Country and Thanos Wins for Marvel, these two have good form, and I’m hoping Crossover lives up to expectations. Let’s take a look.
First off, what an incredible cover. Loved it. Cates jumps straight in with what I guess will be the philosophical heart of the book, ‘what exactly is real?’. It’s an interesting point.

When Thor first joined the Marvel Universe, it was as Harvard Medical student Donald Blake, but after years splitting time between the two alter egos, Thor became a separate being and Blake left Asgard (mostly) behind. But in November’s Thor #9 by Donny Cates and Nic Klein, Don Blake returns and things are looking less than great for the good doctor.
“‘Prey’ is maybe the most fun I’ve ever had writing at Marvel. Thor fans are going to lose their minds over this one and I can’t wait to unleash this terrifying beast on them!” Cates said. “Nic Klein is back and at the top of his game on this one. I promise you this, True Believers, just like the mighty thunder king himself…..you won’t see this one coming. Behold…the return of Donald Blake!”
Blake was initially transferred out of Thor around when Walter Simonson began his epic run.

The unstoppable big bad of Deadpool 2 isn't allowed in the X-Men's clubhouse, so Juggernaut is off to figure out his place in the world.
Since the 1960s, the Juggernaut has always been a major part of the X-Men corner of Marvel. Even though – much like Dr. Doom – he’s one of those villains who can be plugged in against any hero, Juggernaut’s existence always comes back to his origins as Charles Xavier’s demented half-brother. Over the years, he’s become something of an antihero at times or at least on the cusp of true reform. He joined the X-Men for a time and became a member of the Thunderbolts. Recently, his return to villainy was based on Xavier’s not-so-permanent death at the hands of Cyclops, as Cain Marko realized that he actually kind of loved his step-brother for always believing in him.

Legendary Entertainment continues developing the best-selling Image Comics' graphic novel "God Country(2017), written by Jonny Cates and illustrated by Geoff Shaw, as a feature film:
"...'Emmett Quinlan' is an elderly widower rattled by dementia. Emmett isn't just a problem for his children — his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle.
"When a tornado levels his home — as well as the surrounding West Texas town — a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body.
"He’s now the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State..."

If you’ve been following what Marvel’s been up to on the comic book side of things for the past few years, then surely you know that they’ve been having a ton of fun with the Punisher. Not only did he end up donning the War Machine armor in his own ongoing series at one point, but he’s also been revealed to be the Cosmic Ghost Rider in the incredibly popular “King Thanos” story arc.
In fact, there’s been so much love and support for the character since his debut that Marvel now wants to bring him into the McU. Maybe all of the recent hoopla surrounding the next Guardians of the Galaxy film being delayed and possibly retooled due to the firing of James Gunn has something to do with the books being shaken up, but I like to think there’s less pressure on Marvel Comics to have their products reflect the movies in recent years. After all, there’s a reason why we refer to the literature as “source material.”
As you may remember, the House of Ideas has spent the past few months teasing a fresh team lineup to be featured in a new ongoing series written by Donny Cates and illustrated by Geoff Shaw. And like I expected, reactions proved to be divisive because, as stated earlier, it’s not exactly reflective of what’s been enjoyed on the silver screen. But if you’re like me, you dig seeing oddball additions to super groups every now and then.

Despite Thanos currently being cock of the walk on the live action side of things, the Mad Titan hasn’t had as much luck in the comic book realm as of late. Long story short, Requiem, formerly Gamora, beheaded her father and now the universe is one purple despot lighter.
As one would expect, there’s a power vacuum of sorts being left behind, and it appears as though the House of Ideas won’t wait much longer before filling the void. In fact, the soon-to-be relaunched Guardians of the Galaxy series looks to be the book to watch if you want to keep up with this situation.
We say that because Marvel Comics have now dropped their March 2019 solicitations online, and the one corresponding to Guardians of the Galaxy #3 warns of “a new Thanos rising.” Like many of you, I’m left simultaneously intrigued and perplexed.

Marvel’s big comic book event this year, for obvious reasons, is Infinity Wars, involving the latest threat to the universe from those pesky Infinity Stones. Just like the big screen’s Avengers: Infinity War, the comic promises to have major repercussions for the Marvel universe going forward. Marvel.com has revealed that writer Donny Cates and artist Geoff Shaw are set to relaunch the series in early 2019 with a much different team in place from what fans are used to. In a statement on the website, Cates outlined what we can expect from the first arc of the new Guardians comic – titled ‘Endgame’ – with the writer saying they have some crazy plans in store for us.

Whenever the next big superhero movie comes around, you tend to see the comic book publishers place more focus on characters set to appear on the silver screen. In the case of Avengers: Infinity War, it only makes sense that Thanos be given his time in the sun.
Now, as you know, we tend to see annuals be released in the latter portions of a given month. Often telling self-contained stories or kicking off or concluding a story arc, these oversized specials tend to give True Believers real bang for their buck.

Is there a villain that strikes fear into the hearts of Marvel heroes more than Thanos? Named by his creator Jim Starlin after Thanatos, the Greek god of death, the purple cosmic tyrant has been trying to get his gauntlet on total universal domination for 45 years. But how much do we really know about him? Not a whole lot, it turns out, as a new comic has revealed that Thanos isn’t his birth name.
