Are you guys digging this season of Hawthorne? Our own Michael Yo just hit the set for scoop from star Jada Pinkett Smith, and she told us, "This year we're dealing with a lot of adult issues. Christina goes on a tremendous journey. So it's not going to be that same flow from the last two years. " Hmmm...what do you think that means? Plus, Smith teased big twists for Kelly (Vanessa Lengies) and Camille (Hannah Hodson), explained the significance of the return of Marc Anthony's sexy Nick, and talked about how her character's pregnancy brought her own babies to mind: So will Christina Hawthorne's pregnancy inspire Jada Pinkett Smith to have more babies? No way, said Smith. "The shop...

Created by Emmy® winner John Masius (“St. Elsewhere,” “Providence,” “Dead Like Me”), “Hawthorne” premiered in summer 2009 and ranked as one of ad-supported cable’s Top 5 new series of the year. In its second season in summer 2010, the series continued its success, averaging 3.7 million viewers and ranking as ad-supported cable’s #1 Tuesday program among women 25-54.

To the chagrin of copy-editors everywhere, TNT has renewed the typographically silly nursing drama "HawthoRNe" for a third season. The 10-episode third season of "Hawthorne" (we can't bring ourselves to play TNT's capitalization reindeer games) will premiere in 2011. In case you've somehow forgotten, "Hawthorne" stars Jada Pinkett Smith as Christina Hawthorne, who TNT describes as "an impassioned Chief Nursing Officer struggling to whip a failing hospital – and her personal life – into shape." Michael Vartan, Suleka Mathew, Vanessa Lengies, Christina Moore, David Julian Hirsh and Hannah Hodson co-star. Although "Hawthorne" hasn't received the critical or awards...

It's being reported that HawthoRNe will soon be renewed for a third season of 10 episodes.
HawthoRNe revolves around Chief Nursing Officer Christina Hawthorne (Jada Pinkett Smith) and the rest of the staff at Richmond Trinity Hospital. The series also stars Michael Vartan, Suleka Mathew, Christina Moore, David Julian Hirsh, and Hannah Hodson.
The renewal isn't much of a surprise since the series continues to be a good performer for TNT, averaging 3.1 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That's much lower than the cable channel's bigger shows, The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles, but still enough to earn another 10 episode season. Of TNT's summer dramas, only Dark Blue's fate is unknown.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear HawthoRNe will be back for season three? Is it worth watching?...

Probably not the best time to launch a medical drama based around a plucky and opinionated nurse. After all, Showtime just last week launched Nurse Jackie, its own series about, you got it, a plucky and opinionated nurse in a comedy series that's intelligent, gripping, and utterly unforgettable. The same, sadly, can't be said for TNT's Hawthorne (I flat out refuse to capitalize the Rn--for registered nurse, natch--in the series' title), which launches tonight on the cabler. Created by John Masius (St. Elsewhere, Dead Like Me), Hawthorne pales in comparison to the similarly-themed Nurse Jackie. It also tries to take a more serious tack with its handling of professional nurses than the Edie Falco-led Showtime series and yet feels all the more tired and staid as a result. Jada Pinkett Smith (The Matrix) stars here as Christina Hawthorne, the widowed Chief Nursing Officer at Richmond Trinity hospital who has...

Chicago – TNT’s medical drama “HawthoRNe” would have felt overly generic in any month of the year, but debuting in the same one as Showtime’s far darker, subtler and more entertaining “Nurse Jackie” does the show no favors at all. Jada Pinkett Smith executive-produces and stars in a well-intentioned program with a good pedigree (John Masius of “St. Elsewhere” is one of the producers) but one that feels like a relic of a bygone era of more manipulative television.

Jada Pinkett Smith has come to television. Smith plays Christina Hawthorne in the eponymous TNT medical drama that focuses on a group of nurses and doctors at Richmond Trinity Hospital.
The pilot opens on the one year anniversary of the death of Christina’s husband. Still desperate to stay connected to her husband, Christina talks to his ashes each night. In the early morning, she rushes to the hospital to save an old friend of her husband, who’s suffering from cancer and tries to kill himself. Her friend survives his suicide attempt and thus begins another crazy day for the hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer.
Smith’s acting is terrific in the pilot. I admit, I haven’t watched a lot of her previous work, but she switches from funny to caring to headstrong in a heartbeat. The interaction with her character’s rebellious teenage daughter, Camille (played by...
