Before serving in the military, he was a professional drummer in the
sixties for various recording artists. Upon release from the Army, he
began a career in writing and did some comedy writing for Joan Rivers
in the 1980s, as well as doing short stories and magazine work. During
the nineties he became a script consultant, recently having worked with
George A. Johnson on his recent film Dreamer: The Movie (2004) as well as the Award-winning
documentary Death Voice from producer Barbara Hammond.
A native of Iowa, he was recently listed as one of ninety famous Iowans to be included in the Iowa Walk of Fame, with his name and star in the sidewalk in Shenandoah, Iowa along with more illustrious Iowans such as John Wayne and Donna Reed.
