Michael Skakel has asked Connecticut’s Supreme Court to reconsider its recent decision to reinstate the Kennedy cousin’s overturned murder conviction for the 1975 killing of Martha Moxley, according to a pair of court motions filed last week.
People obtained copies of both motions, which also request that a fresh vacancy on the Supreme Court be filled before the court begins considering the Friday filings.
In a split 4-3 decision issued Dec. 30, Connecticut’s Supreme Court determined the state’s Superior Court erred in its 2013 decision to overturn Skakel’s conviction.

Fourteen years after Michael Skakel was convicted of murdering 15-year-old friend Martha Moxley, his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has written an explosive new book, Framed, that claims they got the wrong man. In the new book, Kennedy writes that Skakel, whose conviction was set aside in 2013 and now faces the possibility of a new trial, was "framed" for a murder he never could have committed. Kennedy, 62, also names the two men - Adolph Hasbrouck and Burr Tinsley - he believes are guilty of the murder. (Neither man was ever charged with the murder and neither could be reached for comment for this story.

Many people believe Michael Skakel killed 15-year-old Martha Moxley in 1975. But his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. isn't one of them. "There were a lot of suspects who had much stronger evidence against them than Michael," Kennedy, the son of slain Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Skakel, tells People exclusively. Skakel's murder conviction in Moxley's death was set aside in 2013, when a judge ruled that his original defense attorney, Mickey Sherman, was inadequate. Skakel has been free ever since, released on a $1.2 million bond, and is awaiting a state Supreme Court's decision on whether or not he will receive a new trial.

The fate of Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel is in the hands of six Connecticut Supreme Court judges. On Wednesday in Hartford, those judges heard testimony to determine if Skakel - who was convicted in 2002 of murdering his neighbor before the conviction was reversed - will receive a new trial or whether he will be sent back to prison to finish his 20-year to life sentence. Skakel's attorney, Hubert J. Santos, contended that the justices should uphold a lower court's ruling that overturned Skakel's conviction on the grounds that his original defense attorney, Mickey Sherman, was inadequate. Former According to Jim star Jim Belushi is moving to a drama series. He's been tapped to star in a legal drama created by Murphy Brown mastermind Diane English and Homicide and Oz exec-producer Barry Levinson. The show is loosely based on the memoir "How Can You Defend These People?" by TV commentator and lawyer Mickey Sherman.
This is an excellent way for Belushi to wash the stench of According to Jim from his person. If presented as a dramedy (much like many of the popular dramas today), this could be a winner.

James Belushi is 55 this year, a scary number for any longtime comic actor. Aside from whimpering when the Sea-Bond commercials on Game Show Network come on and fearing the shoulder-dislocating capacity of the can-crusher in the garage, a 55-year-old comedian sometimes believes that starring in a television drama sounds like the right thing to do. Variety has it that the comic star of According to Jim is planning to play a defense attorney in a TV drama based on the life of lawyer and commentator Mickey Sherman. But does this comedian have the stalwart center -- nay, colon -- of our classic silly-to-serious TV legends?...
