Fan’s Homemade ‘American Werewolf in London’ Halloween Costume Transforms in Various Stages! [Video]
Horror fans seem to top themselves each and every Halloween season with the incredible costumes they put together and share on social media, and this year was no exception.
One of this year’s coolest costumes comes courtesy of Whoa Gilly over on TikTok, and it’s based on the iconic transformation scene from An American Werewolf in London.
But what’s particularly special about the costume is that it actually, well, transforms!
What starts out as a simple David Kessler Halloween costume quickly reveals itself to be something much more, as Whoa Gilly found a clever way to use homemade practical effects to turn from Human David into Werewolf David in a flash. Underneath the David mask is a half-werewolf mask, and underneath David’s famous red jacket is a hairy werewolf chest and arms.
After the human face has been ripped off and the jacket torn away, the...

Lisa Marie Presley was the closest thing America had to royalty. She was a rock & roll princess, the only daughter of a King. But the rarified existence that Elvis’ fame and success afforded her also confined her — and perhaps presaged her death in January at 54. In an exhaustive feature story, Rs details the heartbreaks, surprise marriages (to Michael Jackson, especially), and troubles with self-identity, substance abuse, and daily life in general that Presley faced. As friend and producer Glen Ballard says, “It was never an easy journey for her.” Here...

It's always been a tricky balance that enduring TV series must maintain.
Showrunners of such shows have to find a way to keep their program fresh without looking too far into a future that may not exist.
Another problem is that unfinished storylines pile up throughout the seasons.
NCIS: Los Angeles, the first and most successful NCIS spinoff, will conclude at the end of NCIS: Los Angeles Season 14 on May 14.
So let's take a look at some of the loose ends that could stand to be tied up by the series wrap.

The storyline that most fans want to see completed is the return of Hetty.
At best, the heart of the series has been mentioned in passing for much of the past three seasons.

Lisa Marie Presley had been talking about the future before her unexpected death at age 54 on Jan. 12.
In the latest issue of People, Presley’s friend, David Kessler, revealed how the pair had a chat the night before what would have been her father Elvis Presley’s 88th birthday on Jan. 8.
Presley took Kessler to Graceland’s Meditation Garden, where both her father and her son Benjamin are buried, after staff and fans had left the Memphis, Tennessee property for the day. Presley’s son Benjamin died from suicide at age 27 in July 2020.
Kessler, an author and grief expert who became friends with Presley after Benjamin’s tragic death, recalled, “We sat there mostly in silence by Ben’s grave. She showed me where she’d be buried someday, right across from her father’s grave.
“I said, ‘Not for a long time,’ and she was like, ‘Nope, I got a lot to do still.

John Landis' 1981 classic "An American Werewolf in London" is one of the most revered horror-comedies ever, standing on the shoulders of the goofy "Abbott and Costello Meet..." film series and leaning into the natural absurdities of one of the horror genre's most overt manifestations of man's duality. Casting the lead roles of doomed Americans David Kessler and Jack Goodman was of paramount importance; the movie was conceived as homage to "The Wolf Man," after all. The suits at Universal initially wanted SNL alum and "Blues Brothers" stars Dan Akroyd and John Belushi to lead, but Landis went with unknowns David Naughton and Griffin Dunne instead.
An ordinary casting process might include screen tests and further evaluations of the actor, but the way Naughton told it to journalist Sandy Auden, one meeting with the "Animal House" director was all it took to land the role of the doomed backpacker. He describes...

Daniela Ruah has enjoyed playing Kensi Blye, the most enduring female agent in the popular NCIS franchise.
NCIS: Los Angeles returns for its 14th season at 10 p.m. Sunday on CBS, and Ruah has been there from the beginning, as have LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell as partners Sam Hanna and G Callen.
In this exclusive interview with TV Fanatic, when she calls from her home base of, not surprisingly, Los Angeles, Ruah admits she feels a kinship to Kensi.

Try harder, Daniela.

Keep your warm-colored lights and green pine trees. For some of us, October is the most wonderful time of the year. You can smell it as autumnal leaves drifting across the grass; you can hear it as children laugh in their most beloved Halloween costumes; and you can see it with the cornucopia of horror movies to watch.
Aye, horror flicks are the most important part of the season to some. For 31 days, you don’t need an excuse to indulge in the wicked and the weird, and to hopefully scare yourself silly. But in an age of streaming, and when countless mounds of content is being thrown at you, how do you decide what to watch? Well, at least when it comes to Amazon Prime Video, we have a few ideas…

When it comes to werewolf transformations on screen, it's hard to top the one featured in "An American Werewolf in London." The scene has it all: magnificent practical effects, unbridled anguish, and Sam Cooke's version of "Blue Moon" playing comically in the background. While many have tried to recreate its brilliance by werewolf transformation standards — special nods go out to "Ginger Snaps" and "Dog Soldiers" for their particular takes on the subject — there's really nothing else quite like David Kessler's (David Naughten) in "An American Werewolf in London."
Directed by John Landis, this horror comedy tells the story of two American friends who accidentally get lost on their backpacking trip across Europe. When they are viciously attacked by a mysterious wolf-like creature, one of the men is killed while the other is forced to discover his new fate as a full-fledged werewolf. 41 years after its release in theaters, John Landis' "An American Werewolf in London" seems nearly as modern today as it did in 1981. That's partly because the script wasn't even a product of its own time — Landis came up with the idea in the late '60s, while working on "Kelly's Heroes" as a Pa in Yugoslavia. After witnessing a "gypsy funeral," the 18-year-old Landis was taken with the clash between his so-called civilized background and the fervent belief in superstition and the supernatural he witnessed at the funeral.
As the young Landis began his directing career in earnest during the '70s, he kept trying to get "American Werewolf" made, to no avail. Not only was this due to his relative inexperience early in his career, but people who read the "Werewolf" script were confused by its blend of humor and horror.

A lot of things helped make this past Oscars ceremony an infamous affair—the most innocuous being the addition of two online popularity contests seemingly devoid of any real checks and balances to prevent them from becoming a ballot-stuffing battle royale between fandoms. The Zack Snyder contingent (unsurprisingly) proved victorious with both, but there was an intriguing dark horse by way of the Johnny Depp-starring and -produced Minamata. Was it genuine? Who knows? Its third-place finish could have been as much about Depp stans seeking redemption for their beloved yet problematic celebrity post-Grindelwald firing as trolls looking to force the Academy into putting his name back onto their lips despite the film having an almost non-existent release. Either way, it’s become a circus attraction.

The greatest power of the photographic image is its function in affecting social change, a phenomenon that only persists and grows with the proliferation of cameras in every hand at all times. But with great power comes great responsibility, they say, a conundrum explored in Andrew Levitas’ “Minamata,” the story of legendary photojournalist W. Eugene Smith and his experiences photographing the effect of toxic mercury poisoning in Japan.
Writers Levitas, David Kessler, Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman fudge the facts just a bit to craft this biopic of Smith, played here by a grizzled Johnny Depp, and the result is something akin to “Erin Brockovich” by way of “A Private War,” with a dash of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” for flavor. (Depp’s Smith has the same fondness for accessories and methamphetamine that his Hunter S. Thompson did.)

Happy Friday, dear readers! One of our annual traditions here at Daily Dead is that, once a year, we take a few weeks to celebrate a notable time period in the horror genre. And since 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of all the great classics that were released during 1981, we thought it only made sense to pay tribute to the films of that year with our Class of 1981 series.
Starting on Monday, August 16th, we will be kicking off our two-week celebration of the killer horror and memorable sci-fi movies that were released throughout 1981. And if you feel like celebrating right alongside us, I’ve gone ahead and put together this handy list of where you can stream an assortment of ‘81 classics on a variety of platforms (both subscription-based and free).
And remember, be sure to check back here every day on Daily Dead for all kinds of 1981-related fun, as...

Joe Biden’s team announced new details for its plans for the presidential inauguration, which the president-elect already indicated would bear some similarities to the nearly all-virtual Democratic National Convention, reimagined because of Covid-19.
Stephanie Cutter and Ricky Kirshner, who spearheaded the convention plans, will serve as executive producers of the inaugural, with Rod O’Connor as senior adviser.
Biden’s Presidential Inaugural Committee also is urging the public not to travel to Washington, D.C. for the Jan. 20 event, and to “participate in the inaugural activities from home.”
Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will take the Oath of Office at the Capitol, but the ceremony’s “footprint will be extremely limited,” and the inaugural parade that follows will be “reimagined.” Construction crews already have been at work building the inaugural platform at the Capitol and the reviewing stand at the White House.
In a statement, Tony Allen, the CEO of the Presidential Inaugural Committee,...

NCIS: Los Angeles aired two action-packed episodes Sunday night.
Both episodes certainly added fuel to the fire that original series regular Eric Christian Olsen is bowing out of the series.
Now, Daniela Ruah, who plays Kensi Blye, is opening up about the rumors.
If you watch NCIS: Los Angeles online, you know Deeks' job as a liaison between the LAPD and NCIS had been terminated.
"Listen, if Eric were leaving the show permanently, we would know about that by now, and that's obviously not the case," Ruah told TV Line in an interview.
"So, somewhere and somehow, things happen that change the course of where the story is going."
That's probably the biggest explanation we're going to get about the trajectory of Deeks' storyline.
It's not uncommon for TV shows to switch things up, and given how long NCIS: Los Angeles has been on the air, it's nice to have some changes.

The future is not looking bright — at all — for either Kensi Blye or husband Marty Deeks, coming out of this week’s NCIS: Los Angeles double header.
When summoned to coax intel from David Kessler, a deplorable old foe, about a fellow escaped con, Kensi inadvertently played right into the savvy killer’s hand. Because as the team realized in the second hour’s final moments, Kessler got caught during the prison escape on purpose, so as to leverage his info on the other convict into a private phone call with the President of the United States. Through his fellow escapee,...

This Sunday will be twice as nice for fans of CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles, which is serving up not one but two fresh episodes, beginning at 9:30/8:3oc.
In the second hour, titled “Raising The Dead,” a prison break lets loose a man with designs on killing the President of the United States, so Special Agent Kensi Blye (played by Daniela Ruah) is forced to grill the other, captured escapee, David Kessler, for a possible lead. Thing is, Kessler is a bit of a Kensi Blye “superfan” — and a very twisted one at that — seeing as she was responsible...

From Festival International des Cinémas d’Asie:
We are very sad to hear about Mr. David Kessler’s sudden death. He was director of French Cnc between 2001 and 2004. He always followed very closely Vesoul Iffac’s events, together with General Delegate, Mrs. Monique Barbaroux, during Cnc’s presidency.
He was a man of great cultural knowledge, of great working force, of big humility, a sign distinction of great men. Even during his time working for France Television, France Culture, Cmsa, Radio France, Forum des Images, Inrockuptibles, Huffington Post and has been the cultural and medias consultant for French president François Hollande, before becoming president of French telecom company Orange, he always cared very much for Vesoul Iffac. He requested to personally award the insignia Chevalier des Arts et Lettres to Martine and Jean-Marc Thérouanne at Vesoul’s Prefecture back in 2004. During Vesoul festival’s partnership with Orange company, he requested to attend Vesoul.

As Halloween is approaching, a new study is taking a look at the impact horror movies have on the average film-watcher.
According to the New York Post, a study was conducted by OnePoll for the streaming service, Tubi, to gauge a better understanding of what adults remember about their childhood horror movie experiences.
The study surveyed 2,000 people and found that many adults remembered watching their first horror movie at age 10, and 52 percent of people shared that many of the things that scared them then, still frighten them today.
While 62 percent of people admitted that it can be fun to be scared,...

Watch enough documentaries, and you'll find yourself having trouble getting out of bed in the morning. You'll certainly think twice before undergoing a medical procedure, especially on the heels of Kirby Dick's documentary about the hazards of so-called "innovative" medical devices. Chronicling the unnecessary pain and suffering of patients caused by complications of devices and procedures that received little or no testing, The Bleeding Edge is a terrifying eye-opener. The Netflix-produced documentary recently received its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
