Charles Barkley is mad, and he is not holding back.
The NBA legend-turned Inside the NBA studio host was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show Thursday morning, and he ripped into his parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, and said that he had discussed reconstituting the popular NBA studio show at his own production company, should TNT Sports lose NBA rights.
Barkley said that he has discussed the idea with his co-hosts, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith. And, to note, Wbd owns the rights to Inside the NBA but Barkley could find a way to reconstitute it under a different name if he struck out on his own.
“I have my own production company, I would love to do that if if we lose it [NBA rights],” Barkley said. “But I have definitely had — actually somebody suggested that to me, to be honest with you, on the internet — ‘so why doesn’t Charles Barkley sign these three,...

Charles Barkley, one of the mainstays of the long-venerated studio show Inside the NBA — which won yet another Sports Emmy last night — says the current media rights situation “sucks right now” for Warner Bros. Discovery staffers.
About 200 jobs could be lost, Barkley said in an interview Wednesday on SiriusXM, if Wbd loses out to NBCUniversal. (Listen to a clip below.)
“It just sucks right now for the people I work with,” Barkley said. “I’m worried about all the people I work with. I just turned 61. I’ve got enough money.”

A one-minute teaser for the upcoming season of David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction interview series teases chats with Miley Cyrus and Charles Barkley. The season launches on Netflix on June 12.
Cyrus’ segments find her joking about how she used to have a fear of getting fired but now she sees being told that she’s no longer needed for obligations is a relief, and she also appears to reflect on her Hannah Montana days. “They did shoot a pilot with another girl, and then they showed it to [a focus group],” Cyrus says.

David Letterman is back with a couple more episodes of his Netflix talk show.
The former Late Show host is bringing My Next Guest Needs No Introduction back for two more episodes with Miley Cyrus and Charles Barkley.
It’s hard to call two episodes a season, but it will launch on June 12.
“When you start taking it too serious, you need to take a look at yourself,” said NBA legend Barkley in the trailer.
The first season, which launched in 2018, consisted of six episodes with a bonus episode with Jerry Seinfeld. Season 2 featured five episodes with a bonus episode with Zach Galifianakis, followed by a Shah Rukh Khan special. Season 3 featured four episodes, Season 4 had six, and there have been subsequent specials with John Mulaney and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The show is produced by Jax Media and Letterman’s Worldwide Pants, Inc. Variety was first with the news.

NBC’s The Voice Season 25 carries on without Blake Shelton. Shelton quit The Voice after season 23 to spend more time at home with his wife, Gwen Stefani, and her three boys. So, does this mean Shelton’s off the show forever? Here’s what he said about the circumstances that could make him change his mind.
Blake Shelton says he’d consider returning to ‘The Voice’ with these 4 coaches
Blake Shelton was one of the first coaches ever to participate in NBC’s The Voice. The series’ first season began in 2011, and CeeLo Green of Gnarls Barkley and Adam Levine of Maroon 5 were the first two confirmed coaches. After they were locked in, Shelton and Christina Aguilera joined the crew a month later.

Upfront week’s reliance on films isn’t actually new but it is increasingly bizarre, as evidenced by the top of Wednesday morning’s Warner Bros. Discovery presentation kicking off with sizzle that prioritized features Furiosa, Dune: Part Two and Wonka — when new episodes of the HBO and Max’s flagship Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, are just weeks away.
But the opening frames proved to be relatively misleading, as the 90-minute (notably David Zaslav free) pitch to advertisers focused almost exclusively on … advertising. And on linear TV, at that. Film was referenced, of course, but as a vehicle to get Procter & Gamble’s Olay in on the Barbie phenomenon. Ad sales execs literally offered up James Gunn’s first project of the new DC era to the room full of media buyers, asking who wants sponsorship deals ahead of its planned 2025 release: “Do you want to be in Superman?...

The popular team of analysts may not be available on TNT for much longer, as NBC looks poised to steal its NBA package.
Which way is the NBA’s ball set to bounce? Will it carom back to TNT for another decade, or will NBC steal the package of games whose rights are currently owned by Warner Bros. Discovery by making the league an offer it can’t refuse? The latter possibility looks increasingly likely, and if Wbd does lose its NBA rights, one question that many fans will immediately begin to ponder is what will become of the popular “Inside the NBA” team of Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson; arguably the best sports show on television. There are plenty of options available to the group, including the possibility that 2025 is the final time that they appear on TV together.

King Charles, CNN’s once-a-week talker featuring Gayle King and Charles Barkley, ended last week with no plans to extend the limited series.
The show averaged about a half-million viewers in its debut but trailed its rivals in its 10 p.m. Et time slot on Wednesdays. It was announced as a limited-run series to begin with, featuring two high-profile personalities in conversation about major events and cultural moments.
The show also was a signature feature of then-ceo Chris Licht’s plans to overhaul the network’s primetime lineup with big-name personalities hosting shows once or twice a week. Although that’s a bit unconventional for cable news, MSNBC has had success with Rachel Maddow’s show since it went to just Mondays in 2022, as she had signed a new contract for fewer days.
King Charles ultimately debuted after Licht had departed and a new CEO, Mark Thompson, had joined. He has made some programming changes,...

A star-studded group of veteran “Saturday Night Live” guest hosts were on hand this evening to welcome Kristen Wiig into the “Five-Timers Club.” But much to Wiig’s chagrin, most of them haven’t matched her feat of actually hosting “SNL” five times.
The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member made her fifth appearance as host — having previously hit the stage in 2013, 2016 and twice in 2020.
The stolen “SNL” valor actually began with a legit five-timer: Paul Rudd, on hand to welcome her from the audience..
“As a former cast member, it is very special,” Wiig said. “I’m really excited about getting my jacket tonight… they don’t just hand the jackets off to anyone.”
Well, not quite. Soon more stars came out: Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Martin Short, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Martin Short and Ryan Gosling. None of whom haven actually hosted five times yet.

Saturday Night Live took a break from politics in its cold open to riff on March Madness — more specifically how the women’s tournament has been a lot more exciting than the men’s competition.
The setup was TBS’ post-game coverage, with co-host Kenny Smith (Devon Walker) noting that 14 million people watched the the Iowa-Connecticut game, where Caitlin Clark faced Paige Bueckers.
Fellow host Charles Barkley (Kenan Thompson) chimed in, “The women’s is turning up the stars. Caitlin Clark is going as for State Farm, Subway, XFinity and Nike. I’m only doing ads for three of those companies.”
Later, the anchors go to Lsu coach Kim Mulkey (Heidi Gardner), who says she’s been made up to look “like the Riddler with the Talbots.”
When she was asked about her reputation for being too tough on her players, she told them, “Ohh please. People think I’m just...

Fans of The Price Is Right recently called out a contestant’s win, with some slamming the game or criticizing the prize winner for her efforts later in the show.
However, host Drew Carey expressed his happiness over seeing the individual walk away with an exciting prize while he was there.
The game show features a range of games involving guessing prices and one contestant recently won a car at what many believe to be a challenging price-guessing game.
However, another contestant’s recent win in a well-known game didn’t receive as much fan praise.
With the Range Game, the prize is typically a vacation, which was the case for the latest edition, as the contestant was trying to win a trip to Costa Rica.
The gameboard featured a range of prices from $11,000 to $11,600, and the trip’s price is somewhere in that range. A $150 red range finder moved...

Can college basketball turn TV’s fortunes around?
At a moment where linear TV is in something of a lull, with last year’s strikes still being felt and a continued weak advertising market, the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament might be just the thing the market needs.
As usual, this year’s games will be televised on CBS, TNT, TBS and TruTV, and will stream online via Max (for the TNT, TBS and TruTV games), Paramount+ (for the CBS games) and the March Madness Live app.
John Bogusz, the head of ad sales for CBS Sports (he will retire later this year), says that this year’s tournament is trending up high single digits in terms of dollars and pricing, as sports outpace entertainment in the marketplace. The entire tournament is “virtually sold out,” he says, with the Final Four and championship in particularly high demand (they are holding...

The reign of King Charles — the CNN show, not the British monarch — began rather quietly Wednesday.
The weekly show, hosted by Gayle King and Charles Barkley, drew just 501,00 viewers for its debut, according to same-day Nielsen ratings (it adjusted up a little from 486,000 in fast nationals). It finished a distant third among the biggest cable news channels in total viewers and didn’t really moving the needle from CNN’s recent averages in the hour. In fact, it ranks as the smallest audience of any of CNN’s primetime debuts this year.
King Charles was one of the last big moves of the brief Chris Licht era at CNN. The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network announced the show in late April — six weeks before Licht was let go following a profile in The Atlantic that was poorly received among network staffers. (Mark Thompson became CEO of CNN in October.)

CNN has set Nov. 29 as the premiere date for King Charles, the primetime limited series hosted by Gayle King and Charles Barkley.
The show will air at 10 p.m. Et on Wednesdays, although the second week will be an hour earlier because of the GOP debate on Dec. 6.
In a promo, King called the show “our unfiltered take on the biggest stories of the day.”
The show’s genesis was during the tenure of Chris Licht, the former CNN boss who was ousted in June. Licht had sought to shore up the network’s primetime lineup with star personalities, even if that meant once-a-week primetime shows. MSNBC already has done that, with The Rachel Maddow Show now appearing only on Mondays after Maddow signed a new contract that pulled back on her regular appearances.

Can “King Charles” rule in the heady, competitive world of cable news? CNN will soon find out.
The new weekly one-hour program will debut Wednesday, November 29, at 10 p.m., and will be co-anchored by the unlikely duo of Gayle King, who still has her long-running day job at rival CBS News, and Charles Barkley, the outspoken sportscaster who remains a key element in the NBA coverage provided by CNN’s parent, Warner Bros. CNN executives are counting on the pair to have freewheeling conversations about the biggest stories in the news cycle. “King Charles” is viewed as a limited-run series that will last at least through the first quarter of next year.

The new bundles are coming, according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
Speaking at a Goldman Sachs conference Wednesday, the executive said that his company has had discussions with other companies in the content space about developing new bundles to create a better “consumer experience.” Those conversations have picked up “in the last few months,” Zaslav said.
“You know, as we talk to consumers, they find it difficult, and so I think one of the things that we’re going to see as we look into the future is bundling,” Zaslav added. “Some of this disruption and some of these moments of what’s going to happen may activate a quicker transition to things like some of us in the content business bundling together as a way to create more value and create a better consumer experience.”

Skip Bayless has taken a jab at Charles Barkley after the former NBA star called the Fox Sports analyst an “idiot.” In return, the Undisputed co-host called Barkley a “clown.”
“Still chuckling over a clown calling me an idiot,” Bayless tweeted.
The tweet from Bayless after Barkley’s coverage of The Match earlier this week where Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson faced off Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in a golf competition. Barkley took a swing at Bayless in a nod to Shannon Sharpe leaving the FS1 show and getting a contract buyout from the sports network.
“He’s the best tight end, it’s between him and Gronk as the best ever. And I don’t want to leave out Shannon Sharpe,” Barkley said. “I want one of those jobs where I can get a buyout for working with an idiot.”
Barkley later joked, “What do you think Ernie?...

The weather in Las Vegas on Thursday is scorching, with a high of 102 degrees. It’s the type of weather that would keep most people inside.
But at the Wynn Las Vegas, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports will be live on the golf course for the latest edition of The Match, its celebrity-driven golf franchise. The latest installment features Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce facing off against Golden State Warriors stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
The made-for-tv event will see them playing golf, yes, but its also about the banter and trash talking between the players. And for Wbd, it’s about the brand integrations as well.
“Maybe I’ll get a few Coors Lights to kind of calm me down,” Mahomes said during a virtual press conference for the event. The headcovers for Mahomes’ clubs will also bear the Coors Light logo, with the beer...

Charles Barkley has the uncanny talent of making double entendres without realizing it, and he did it again this week when he was challenged to do his best Boston accent on “NBA on TNT.”
Barkley was at the Td Garden, home of the Boston Celtics, following Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat. Along with fellow analysts Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith, Barkley tried his best attempt at a Boston accent by reading the phrase, “Saw Ernie at Fenway Park eating chowder on top of the Monster.”
After his expectedly terrible attempt, Barkley noted to host Ernie Johnson that he had never been to a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway and always wanted to sit on top of the Green Monster, the famous left field wall.

Updated: CNN Worldwide CEO Chris Licht confirmed that Kaitlan Collins would be taking over the 9 p.m. Et primetime slot, filling a major hole in the network schedule as it faces sagging ratings.
The move had been expected, as Collins, who is co-anchor of the network’s morning show, also has been among the rotating hosts to have filled the slot since the firing of Chris Cuomo in December, 2021. Licht announced the move in a memo to staffers on Wednesday, and later Collins appeared at the Warner Bros. Discovery upfront presentation along with Licht and Anderson Cooper.
“The new show is going to feature thoughtful perspectives, spirited conversation and respectful debate around the day’s top news, and I will be in good company,” Collins told advertisers.

With the writers strike sowing doubt about long-term scripted entertainment, and the overall advertising market still in a downturn, Warner Bros. Discovery and other major media companies are now leaning into a form of entertainment that has proven to be resilient: Live sports.
And it is a particularly strong moment for sports at Wbd, which is fresh off the March Madness basketball tournament, at the beginning of the MLB season, and smack in the middle of the NBA and NHL playoffs.
“Our strategy in many ways is very different from other players, right? We’re not into tonnage, we’re really about picking and having the most premium sports out there,” says Luis Silberwasser, the chairman and CEO of Wbd Sports. “Whether it’s on TNT or TBS, or TruTV, it just it creates a cultural moment, right? So when these games are happening on primetime, people come to us.

Gayle King and Charles Barkley are teaming up this fall to host a new CNN prime show named after themselves, “King Charles,” the duo announcement on TNT on Saturday.
“King Charles,” will air on Wednesdays starting this fall and will continue through 2024.
“What I think is so great for the both of us is, it’s live T.V.,” King said in the on-air announcement. “To me, live T.V. is like working without a net. So, whatever happens, happens.”
Barkley added, “I want it to be nonpolitical… but we don’t want to say we’re a Liberal, Conservative, Republican, Democrat; that’s one of the things that’s already ruined television in general.”

Gayle King and Charles Barkley made the official announcement Saturday of a new weekly primetime series for CNN: King Charles.
The live show is set to debut this fall and run through 2024, and is a central feature of CNN boss Chris Licht’s efforts to revive the network’s primetime schedule. Its 9 p.m. Et hour has lacked a permanent host since Chris Cuomo was fired in December 2021.
King and Barkley, though, will fill one night of the week, Wednesday.
Licht has been taking a different approach to programming the 9 p.m. Et slot, with a mix of shows and formats rather than giving one personality a five-nights-a-week gig. The network has been trying a mixture of live events, like town halls and one-on-one interviews including Jake Tapper’s sit-down with Bill Maher, in the slot.

In one of the most significant programming moves since joining CNN as its CEO nearly a year ago, Chris Licht has hired CBS Mornings co-anchor Gayle King and NBA on TNT analyst Charles Barkley to host a weekly primetime program, to be called King Charles.
The show was announced on TNT as part of the channel’s NBA playoff pregame coverage.
“What I think is so great for the both of us is that it is live TV,” King said on the program. “Whatever happens, happens.”
King Charles will be an hour long and begin running on CNN later this year and into 2024. King will continue to work for CBS in the mornings, and Barkley will keep his duties at Turner Sports.
Barkley said he was not intrigued about the idea of hosting a show for CNN until King’s name was mentioned. King, similarly, said she “wasn’t looking for another job.

Gayle King and Charles Barkley will help break traditional barriers around news programming later this year when they launch “King Charles,” a new weekly primetime program for CNN.
The duo confirmed the move, which has been anticipated for weeks, with an announcement Saturday afternoon on TNT, a cable network that is, like CNN, owned by Warner Bros, Discovery. “King Charles” will be a one-hour, live discussion program and is set to air Wednesdays. Hollywood has seen success with reviving popular films and TV shows rather than inventing new ideas. One 1960s TV Western ripe for a reboot, The Big Valley, was set to be remade as a feature-length film. Some parts had already been cast, including A-list actors. However, the director landed in hot water over previous indiscretions, and the movie never began shooting. Here’s what happened to the failed Big Valley reboot.

A theatrical reboot of The Big Valley was proposed in 2010. Susan Sarandon was first considered for the lead role. Jessica Lange was also considered for the part. Other actors slated for the cast were Ryan Phillippe, Richard Dreyfuss, and Bruce Dern. It was to be remade as an indie feature by filmmakers Daniel Adams and Kate Edelman Johnson, MeTV reported.

It’s not uncommon for co-stars to have crushes on each other or even enter relationships. Actors spend long hours on set and tend to get pretty close to those they work with. This happened to Lee Majors and Linda Evans, who both starred in The Big Valley. Their characters may have had a brother-sister bond, but Majors and Evans briefly dated in real life.

For as long as American media has existed, so too has the allure of a Western. Stories set in the Wild West play an outsized role in the country’s self-mythology, and one of the genre’s favorite tropes is the duel between two opposing gunfighters. These duels often came down to one simple question: who was the fastest in the West? It turns out that few had the reflexes or mental sharpness of Nick Barkley, a character on the show The Big Valley played by Peter Breck.
Breck was one of many actors who learned to fire their weapons accurately in no time. But who was the quickest? It’s a question without a definitive answer.

Westerns hold a nostalgic place in television history. Dominating the primetime airwaves, more than 100 original TV Western series aired between 1949 and 1969. Shows such as The Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke, and The Rifleman had a faithful following, tuning in each week to witness the fast-paced, gun-slinging, horse-riding action. The Big Valley, starring prominent actors Barbara Stanwyck, Lee Majors, and Linda Evans, ran for four seasons in the mid-’60s. Despite its immense popularity, the TV series ended abruptly. Why was The Big Valley canceled?

A beloved Western drama series that ran on TV for five years, The Big Valley is still fondly remembered by many fans of a certain age. With a star-studded cast, including the iconic actor Barbara Stanwyck in a leading role, The Big Valley is often considered a precursor to shows such as Yellowstone.
Even though the show was only on TV for a few years, which isn’t terribly long compared to other Western dramas like Bonanza, the series made an impact. These days, many fans are discovering The Big Valley for the first time and diving deep into the life stories of some of the show’s cast members. That includes Charles Briles, whose tenure on The Big Valley was short but impactful.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a deal with King is being finalized, but sources said that talks are ongoing with the two personalities.
The intent has been to add an extra bit of star power to its 9 Pm Et primetime hour, which has lacked a permanent host since Chris Cuomo was fired in December, 2021. That time slot has been among the most competitive on cable news.
King and Barkley would be a bit of an unconventional choice for the slot, but the plans also would go against the cable news trend of scheduling a five-night-a-week personality in primetime hours. CNN is said to have talked to two dozen or so names about filling at least one night...

A news King and Sir Charles are getting ready to mix it up in an unorthodox way.
Gayle King and Charles Barkley are finalizing a deal that would have them jointly lead a primetime hour each week on CNN, according to people familiar with the matter. The pact is not complete and there is always the risk it may not come to fruition, one of these people says. CNN declined to make executives available for comment.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that a deal involving King was nearing completion, but it has been an open secret in TV-news circles that CNN has been courting both personalities — and others like them — for some time. Puck reported on negotiations with both King and Barkley earlier this year.
CBS News declined to offer immediate comment on expectations it had for King, who is also the center of its “CBS Mornings” on weekdays...

The Big Valley was one of the last prominent TV shows of the Western craze that swept Hollywood for decades. Waning viewer interest in the genre cut the four-season drama short. Yet even with a truncated run, the show launched several Big Valley cast members to stardom and embedded itself in the public consciousness via syndication.
Without The Big Valley, audiences might never have gotten iconic shows like The Six Million Dollar Man. There are actors still working today whose careers benefitted from appearances in the Western series. But are any main cast members from The Big Valley still alive?

The Big Valley was a primetime drama that aired on ABC from Sept. 15, 1965, to May 19, 1969. While each episode wore the traditional Western genre trappings, the plot’s core was the multi-generational family drama of the wealthy Barkleys.

Plot: A young girl goes on a magical, dreamscape adventure, along with a roguish fellow by the name of Flip.
Review: Jason Momoa has a lot of charm, doesn’t he? The actor has fought long and hard for his career. And it sure has paid off for him. That’s why it’s nice to see him do something different. His latest, the Netflix fantasy adventure, Slumberland, is a dream-fueled, family fable. Alongside Momoa, the film offers a delightful turn from young Marlow Barkley, with Chris O’Dowd and Kyle Chandler. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the film finds a balance between dreamscape and reality, with a decent amount of action and humor thrown into the mix.
Slumberland is a sad story. Like many a childhood fable, the loss of a parent plays a considerable part after young Nemo’s (Barkley) father’s untimely passing. The lighthouse keeper’s daughter must...

If you look at it from a certain angle, dreams are the fixations of all artists in any medium. Probably since the first time a restless soul etched markings in a cave somewhere, we’ve had dreamers attempting to convey how they see the world when their eyes are closed.
This idea has only grown more pronounced after the advent of cinema, with directors often likening their films to “dreams”—visions that need to be told whether by way of surrealist set designs or spinning hotel corridors. And director Francis Lawrence of Constantine and Hunger Games fame can be added to that list with this weekend’s Slumberland, a new family film that co-opts the dreams conjured by another medium a hundred years ago… and then adds Jason Momoa with fangs.
Indeed, Slumberland is a loose adaptation of a now relatively obscure comic strip from the turn of the 20th century.
