Hip-hop heads, rejoice: LL Cool J is about to embark on his first headline arena tour in 30 years, and he’s bringing a particularly stacked crew along with him. The rapper has curated the “F.O.R.C.E. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, “The F.O.R.C.E. Live” tour will feature 18 shows each with a rotating cast of supporting acts. Each night will bring LL Cool J, The Roots, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and DJ Z-Trip to the stage, playing alongside a rotating cast of acts that include Salt-n-Pepa, Queen Latifah, Rakim, Common, Mc Lyte, Method Man & Redman, Big Boi, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Ice T, Juvenile, Doug E. Chris talks the nostalgia and nuance of Lady Bird's soundtrack...
“I mean, what can I say? You’re Justin Timberlake.” Have you seen Greta Gerwig’s personal letters asking for song rights for Lady Bird? As if we needed these requests to Timberlake and Dave Matthews to prove that even Lady Bird’s music comes straight from the heart.
The film presents an incredibly specific pre-adulthood existence: Catholic high school in “the midwest of California”, and economic depression in the immediate psychological fallout of 9/11. Gerwig’s music choices are just as layered, presenting a nostalgia familiar especially to those who grew up during the era. Musically, Lady Bird lives in a time when school dances played childhood hits like Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s “Tha Crossroads” and even your dad had Alanis Morissette references. Every horned up party was backed by Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River,” the kind of song...

If you ask yourself which Edm artists are most likely to survive the Edm apocalypse that’s on our scene’s forecast this year – and you’re honest with yourself – chances are Zhu will come to mind. His heavily instrumental, genres-be-damned fusion between hip-hop and house music somehow boldly defies the status quo while retaining uncanny mass appeal. Case in point: His Coachella Weekend 1 2016 performance.
A producer whose shadowy marketing mystique lends itself to his enigmatic blend of styles, Zhu kicked off his Neon City tour with a set at Coachella’s Sahara Tent this weekend that carries the listener on a seamless journey. In addition to fan favorites like “Faded” and his Skrillex collaboration, “Working For It,” the mix really picks up steam when ’90s rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Trombone Shorty came onstage to assist in his performance of “Hold Up, Wait A Minute.”

After a series of Zhu releases that spanned several months and drew from a talent pool diverse enough to include Skrillex, AlunaGeorge and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, the mysterious artist has officially released the Genesis Series Ep. The six-track effort marks the first time any of the songs have been available for purchase, and arrives in the package of non-marketing that has become the producer’s calling card.
The tracklist for the Genesis Series Ep follows the actual order in which the tracks were debuted, with “Automatic” and “Working For It” bordering it on the beginning and end, respectively. While the release itself arrived in a typically anticlimactic fashion (a post to Zhu’s Facebook page simply read “‘Genesis Series Ep’ 001-006″), a previous post offered a glimpse into the ethos behind it:

Cryptic DJ/producer Zhu has released the tracks of his Genesis Series at a rapid-fire rate. He kicked things off with his widely celebrated AlunaGeorge collaboration shortly before releasing “As Crazy As It Is” alongside A-Trak and Keznamdi, and now he continues the series with his highly anticipated Bone Thugs-n-Harmony joint effort.
“Testarossa Music” is an upbeat and difficult-to-categorize piece of music that features vocals by the hip-hop quintet as well as instrumentals by jazz instrumentalist Trombone Shorty. It's a miracle! Ray Liotta may have found a new movie and won't be playing a cop, corrupt or otherwise! THR says that the actor is now in negotiations for a part in The Rut, a thriller that would see him starring opposite Chloe Moretz and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Described by the trade as "Winter.s Bone meets Whale Rider," The Rut is about a young girl who, in an attempt to impress her father, goes into the wilderness to hunt deer. Moretz, obviously, will play the protagonist while Morgan will play her dad. Should he sign on the dotted line, Liotta will play the film's main villain, a rival hunter who uses a bow and sees Morgan's character to be a threat. The film comes from writer Kevin Caruso, whose only other credit is the 2007 film I Tried, a gritty drama featuring the band Bone Thugs N Harmony, all...

"We the Party" has a poster that makes it look like a more urban entry in the popular "Step Up" franchise, but is hilariously tagged as being "From the Director of 'New Jack City,'" a movie that most of the cast and pretty much anyone they're targeting to watch the movie, have either forgotten about entirely or never seen because it's too fucking old. It is, however, quite evocative of "We the Party," a movie that tries to be edgier, more outrageous, and (oddly) more socially conscious than most teen movies, but ends up being just as tired and cliché (if not more so), combining familiar beats from every high school flick imaginable and shellacking them in the tired aesthetics of 1990s music videos.
