Since the first sinister trailer for Antonio Campos’ adaptation of Donald Ray Pollock’s novel The Devil All the Time arrived, the film has caused quite a buzz. This is the latest Netflix original to land, a pitch black drama set in the Ohio town of Knockemstiff where the corrupt and the lost intertwine in a mix of horror and tragedy. One of the standouts from the trailer is the incredible A-list cast brought together for this ensemble piece. Robert Pattinson plays a predator preacher, Bill Skarsgard a damaged war veteran, Sebastian Stan a dirty cop and Jason Clarke and Riley Keough husband and wife serial killers.
“I wasn’t like Nick Fury showing up,” laughs Campos when he chats to us about building his cast. “It’s a very long drawn out process.” Though he has two actual Avengers in his line up, this is a portrait of villains...

The Devil All The Time is Netflix’s latest buzzy thriller, a Southern Gothic noir with a sprawling narrative and a cast absolutely packed with A-Listers. Robert Pattinson plays an abusive evangelist, Sebastian Stan a corrupt cop, Bill Skarsgard a traumatised war vet and Tom Holland the son trying to undo the damage done by his father.
But it might just be Harry Melling who is the biggest surprise of the movie. Brit actor Melling is best known for his role as Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter series and in The Devil All The Time he is terrific and unrecognisable as a fanatical preacher who pours live spiders onto his face as part of his sermon.
“Harry’s a revelation and just what a committed, inspired actor,” says Campos, talking to us via Zoom from his home in Chile. “Harry and I met and the first thing I asked...

Nothing says romance like Southern gothic and sorcery -- at least, that's what the team behind the new teen romance flick "Beautiful Creatures" hopes. Hitting theaters today, the film stars 18-year-old Alice Englert as Lena Duchannes, a high school student moonlighting as a witch (or, in the film's parlance, a "caster") and coming to grips with her powers in the sleepy town of Gatlin, South Carolina. Aldren Ehrenreich, 23, is the other half of the doomed romantic duo. He plays Ethan Wate, the mortal boy (un)lucky enough to meet Lena and get pulled into her chaotic life in the months leading up to her 16th birthday, when the true nature of her powers will be revealed.

Based on the young adult novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Beautiful Creatures is a story of a young man named Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich) who falls for the “different” new girl in school, Lena (Alice Englert). As Ethan begins to get close to Lena, he learns more about her family’s dark supernatural secrets, which are fatally related to past events from their town of Gatlin, South Carolina. As one can imagine, this film has Twilight-like potential, with three others books in the franchise that could readily be made into sequels.
Directed by Richard Lagravenese, the film features lead performances from two relative unknowns, who act opposite the likes of Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, Thomas Mann, and Emmy Rossum.
The daughter of director Jane Campion, Alice Englert has appeared in Ginger and Rosa opposite Elle Fanning, and also had a part in recent Sundance Film Festival movie In Fear.

Continuing our report on Latino-Review’s set visit for Beautiful Creatures, check out our next interview with Thomas Mann, who plays the part of Link in the film.
Link in the book is the comic relief. Are you taking that role in the movie?
Yeah, definitely. I think in order for this movie not to take itself too seriously, it has to kind of poke fun at itself, and I think Link is a good balance because he’s Ethan’s best friend. He’s going through a crazy time in his life, and Link is such a good presence for him and a good positive energy for him to have around, which is probably why he’s so easy to corrupt.
Have you read the books?
No, I haven’t, not that I don’t plan to, but once I read Richard’s script, I didn’t want to...
