This past Wednesday Marvel Studios made a very special casting announcement via their social media platforms. It was a gift much sweeter and tasty than any Valentine’s Day candy sampler. And it’s been in the works for nearly five years. That’s when Disney officially purchased Fox Studios, which finally brought one of the most celebrated Marvel Comics into the “fold”. In the years before the 2008 launch of Marvel Studios, some of their characters were licensed out to several different studios. Sony still has Spidey, while Daredevil, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four were then at Fox. Dd was brought back in with the Netflix series (and a new Disney+ Maxi-series soon), and Deadpool & Wolverine will rule this July, all the while fans were clamoring for a “new take” on the “first family” of Marvel. Studio head Kevin Feige has teased it at a couple of Comicon appearances,...

The Oscar-nominated artisans from Ridley Scott’s epic Napoleon joined me as part of Apple Original Films’ presentations at Deadline’s Contenders Film: The Nominees event. Veteran production designer Arthur Max and costume designers Janty Yates and David Crossman talked extensively about what it was like to work with Sir Ridley on the ambitious, large-scale production that saw Joaquin Phoenix play Napoleon Bonaparte and Vanessa Kirby his wife Josephine.
With six major battles, hundreds of extras and several challenging locations this was no walk in the park. But for the 85-year-old Scott it is quite common, and Max and Yates have both been through this drill before. In fact, Yates won an Oscar for her work on Scott’s Oscar Best Picture-winning Gladiator in 2001.
For Max, who had to re-create an entirely different country — the film shot in England and Malta — it was not easy.

Released theatrically November 22, 2023, director Ridley Scott's "Napoleon" feature, starring Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as the 'Emperor' of the French as seen through the eyes of his wife 'Josephine' (Vanessa Kirby), streams March 1, 2024 on AppleTV+:
"...the new film is described as a personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor viewed through the prism of the addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, 'Josephine'.
"The film will also capture Napoleon’s famous battles, his relentless ambition, and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader, war criminal and war visionary..."
Napoleon Bonaparte rose to prominence during the latter stages of the 'French Revolution' and its associated wars in Europe. As 'Napoleon I', he was 'Emperor' of the French from 1804 to 1815.
His legal reform, the 'Napoleonic Code', has been a major influence on many civil law jurisdictions worldwide,...

Deadline reports that Ridley Scott is in negotiations to direct a movie about the Bee Gees, the iconic musical group formed by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb.
Ridley Scott recently wrapped production on the Gladiator sequel, and in true Ridley Scott fashion, he’s already looking for another project. I wish I had half his energy. Should Scott close the deal to helm the Bee Gees movie for Paramount Pictures, he would also produce through his Scott Free banner along with Michael Pruss. John Logan (Alien: Covenant) has penned the script for the project.

Strap on your bayonets and make a noise like a horse – Ridley Scott’s Napoleon is heading to Apple TV+ in just a few short weeks. Don’t wash.
When Ridley Scott’s Napoleon arrived in cinemas last year, the icy (and slightly weird) historical epic proved as divisive as the European map its namesake redrew.
It also proved a bit of a conundrum at the box office. While for decades, a film making $220m from a budget potentially reaching the $200m mark would have been labeled a flop, like Killers Of The Flower Moon before it, the historical epic’s cinematic performance was all more or less free money for a movie initially greenlit to bring eyeballs to Apple’s shiny new(ish) streaming service.

With its charming ensemble cast, Sunny Chan's ‘Table for Six' mixed slapstick comedy with melodrama, creating a number one box office hit in Hong Kong in 2022. The original film explored romantic complications and family issues, and most of this film took place at a single apartment dinner table. More ambitious in scope, the sequel ‘Table for Six 2' has an expansive budget, the same charismatic cast and takes place in a multitude of locations, replacing the apartment dinners with three respective wedding ceremonies. Despite this new makeover, ‘Table for Six 2' feels lackluster in script and story when compared to its predecessor, with only its stellar cast keeping it alive.
