As Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements ramp up the output from their Tomorrow Studios shingle, they’ve identified the first project they plan to bring out via their new deal with Julia Garner.
Garner and her producing partner Rowan Riley, via their company Alma Margo, sealed a first-look deal with Tomorrow earlier this year. Their first series will be a drama about an international jewel heist titled “Balabusta.”
“She’s very engaged and involved in every step of the way,” Adelstein said of Garner. “That’s probably one of the best deals we’ve ever made. We’re really happy to be in business with her.”
Garner, of course, is on a roll, having scored Emmy nominations this week in both lead actress in a limited series (for “Inventing Anna”) and supporting actress in a drama (for “Ozark”). Garner already has two Emmys, having won for “Ozark” in 2019 and 2020 in the supporting drama actress field.

Exclusive: HBO Max has ordered a second season of adult animated series Ten Year Old Tom, from Steve Dildarian, animation veteran Nick Weidenfeld and Tomorrow Studios. The renewal is being announced today at Rooster Teeth’s Rtx festival in Austin.
Created, produced, directed and written by The Life and Times of Tim‘s Dildarian, Ten Year Old Tom follows the misadventures of an average kid as he contends with questionable guidance from the well-meaning grownups around him. Being a kid is hard enough for Tom, but when bad influences seem to lurk around every corner – from litigious parents and drug-dealing bus drivers to school administrators who want to sleep with his mom – it’s downright impossible. While the adults in Tom’s life certainly mean well, they just can’t manage to lead by example.

BBC One’s hit primetime gameshow “This is My House” has been renewed for an extended run of ten episodes in a 30-minute format.
The guessing game format created by Richard Bacon and U.S.-based TV producer Nick Weidenfeld will once again see four people all claim to be the same person and that “This Is My House.” A panel of celebrities will attempt to tell which “homeowner” is telling the truth and which are the actors.
The first season performed particularly well among younger audiences and was a rage on social media, the BBC said.
“I loved seeing the way the audience responded to the show. Especially on social media as it was happening,” Bacon said. “It’s given me the confidence to lean right into the absurd humor this time. Also, I’m proud of the fact it did so well with young audiences.”

BBC One game show This Is My House has been given a second season run of ten episodes in an evolved 30-minute format.
The show sees four people all claim to be the same person and that the house in question is their house. A panel of celebrities is then tasked with sussing out which of them is telling the truth.
This Is My House was created by Richard Bacon and Nick Weidenfeld, and produced by Expectation. BBC Studios handles international licensing.
Bacon told Deadline that he is in discussions with a number of potential U.S. homes for the format. “In the U.S. the range of homes over 50 States coupled with the fact Americans are the best liars will make it a great fit,” he added.

With the majority of big global TV distributors opting out of a physical presence at Mipcom, the flashy stands have been replaced by snazzy digital platforms showcasing content rolling out starting this fall.
Among them are a series of virtual festivals by Banijay, which acquired Endemol Shine in summer 2020 and boasts a catalog of more than 88,000 hours of programming. Rather than join Mipcom organizer Reed Midem’s virtual Mipcom Online Plus event, the mega-indie is going its own way, as are so many other distributors.
The latest of its planned digital forays is a non-English language scripted festival designed to showcase the group’s eclectic mix of European dramas. These include six-part French show “Germinal,” a modern adaptation of Émile Zola’s classic 1985 coal-mining strike saga; Swedish boarding-school drama “A Class Apart”; and Italian coming-of-age series “My Ballerina,” a co-production with Italy’s Mediaset.

HBO Max has ordered a new adult animated series titled “10-Year-Old-Tom.”
The series hails from writer and executive producer Steve Dildarian, with Nick Weidenfeld also attached as an executive producer.
“Not only is Steve insanely funny, he is one of the rare talents that can write, draw and do voices. He’s the triple threat that is the foundation of all great animated shows,” said Weidenfeld
In the series, Tom grapples with being corrupted by the grownups around him each day just by leaving his house. Bad influences seem to lurk around every corner — litigious parents, drug dealing bus drivers, and band teachers who want to sleep with his mom. If he sets up a lemonade stand, he gets sued for gross negligence. If he plays baseball, he is encouraged to “dabble with roids.” And if he visits the school nurse, he is introduced to the world of insurance fraud.

Adult Swim’s newest animated series may not be appointment television, but Lazor Wulf is fun, relaxed, and full of character.
This Lazor Wulf review contains no spoilers.
“That’s because Lazor Wulf brings the party with him!”
It’d be safe to think that a cartoon called Lazor Wulf would be a show about powerful wolf protectors or some sort of lupine galactic warriors. In reality, however, the name is just an excuse for a few weird creatures to relax and stay chill. It’s the kind of show rappers’ dogs would probably enjoy. One scene in the series features a sign in the background that says, “Anyone know the premise of the show?” and there’s a corresponding sign that says, “A wolf with a laser.” That’s about it and Lazor Wulf would rather you just enjoy yourself.
The official description for Lazor Wulf says that it...

“Neo Yokio is the greatest city in the world. It is a diverse labyrinth of cultural and architectural innovation. Of course, whenever a city becomes the envy of the world, problems are bound to arise.”
Netflix has released the first trailer for their new six-episode anime series Neo Yokio. The series was created and written by Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend) along with writer and producer Nick Weidenfeld. The series also features a very interesting voice cast that includes Jaden Smith, Jude Law, Susan Sarandon, and Jason Schwartzman.
If Wes Anderson made an anime, this is how it might turn out. It has a slightly similar tone and vibe as his films do and then, of course, there's the addition of Jason Schwartzman. It looks like an interesting and fun anime about a young demon slayer. I'll watch it! Here's a description of the story:

Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig is bringing a new anime series called Neo Yokio to Netflix this month. Here's the trailer...
What a time to be alive.
Netflix just dropped a trailer for an anime original series from Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig starring Jaden Smith, Steve Buscemi, Jude Law, Susan Sarandon, Desus and Mero, Jason Schwartzman and Tavi Gevinson, amongst others.
From the looks of the trailer, Neo Yokio is part-satire, part homage (a la Hot Fuzz), a series that aims to send-up many of anime's most ubiquitous tropes, while also paying tribute to them.
Neo Yokio, a play off of the 'New Tokyo' setting in anime classic Akira, is "a postmodern collage of homages to classic anime, English literature and modern New York fashion and culture." It follows the adventures of Jaden Smith's Kaz Kaan, a broken-hearted, pink-haired demon slayer who cares more about shopping,...

You may not know the name Adhd, but the odds are very, very good you've seen one of their shorts. What might seem like just an off-shoot of Fox's animation department has given birth to some truly odd comedy online — like the Scientifically Accurate shorts series — and on television — like the Nick Offerman-voiced "Axe Cop." Adhd now has its own block of programming Thursday nights on Fxx, featuring new series like "The Lucas Bros. Moving Company" and "Stone Quackers," but it all comes from a spirit of experimentation built from scratch by Nick Weidenfeld, who came from Adult Swim to create the brand. Below, he explains Adhd's origins, why the concept of "platform agnostic" content is poppycock and the secret to creating a place where creative people can truly experiment. Let's start at the beginning. You came over from Adult Swim specifically to found Adhd, correct? Yeah. Were you headhunted?...

Welcome to the third and concluding portion of the long interview I did with Dan Harmon a couple of weeks ago in Los Angeles. In part 1, Harmon discussed the initial process of his return to “Community” and the beginning and end of his feud with Chevy Chase. In part 2, he talked about some of the specific goals of “Community” season 5 and the non-impossibility of a season 6 (and a movie). In part 3, our focus mostly shifts away from “Community” to deal with Harmon’s other show of the moment, the Adult Swim animated sci-fi comedy “Rick and Morty,” a kind of dark, twisted spin on the Doc Brown/Marty McFly relationship from “Back to the Future,” only where Rick is an alcoholic sociopath and Morty is the learning disabled grandson he takes horrific advantage of. (I reviewed it earlier this year.) We talk at times about the differences and similarities between the two shows,...

If making an animated series was easy, a child could do it.
Actually, one is involved in the process now ... but that still doesn't mean it's simple, especially if several different shows are combined. That's the approach of "Animation Domination High-Def," a late-night franchise Fox debuts Saturday, July 27. Two of the 15-minute programs will be ready for starters, and Fox will give them preview showings in primetime Sunday, July 21.
"Axe Cop" is the component involving the child, Malachai Nicolle, who's 8 now. At age 5, he developed the premise as an Internet comic book with his much-older brother Ethan. Nick Offerman ("Parks and Recreation") supplies the voice of the sleepless, birthday-cake-consuming title character, with Megan Mullally (Offerman's wife), Patton Oswalt and Ken Marino furnishing other vocals.
Also in the initial "High-Def" lineup is "High School USA!" with singer-actress Mandy Moore and Vincent Kartheiser -- alias Pete Campbell on AMC's "Mad Men" --...

Though several trailers for Fox's upcoming animated comedy "Axe Cop" have been shown using his voice for the title character, the network is only now officially confirming that Nick Offerman is indeed the axe-wielding lawman.
TV Guide reports that Offerman, who is also an executive producer on the show, was unable to receive credit due to his contractual obligations to NBC's "Parks and Recreation" -- until now.
Fox was set to credit "Axe Cop" for the voice of Axe Cop, but they can luckily scrap that silly idea. "We had this huge game play," Animation Domination High-Def head Nick Weidenfeld says. "But now we can finally talk about Nick being involved. I wouldn't have made the show if it hadn't been for him. He's so integral and important to the 'Axe Cop' story."

Fox today released a trailer for Axe Cop, one of the quarter-hour series that will launch Fox’s late-night alternative animated programming block Animation Domination High-Def, which premieres Saturday, July 27. It is based on the Axe Cop web comic, created by then five-year-old Malachai Nicolle, who did the writing, and his 29-year-old brother, Ethan, who drew it. It chronicles the adventures of an axe-wielding police officer and his loyal team of allies as they fight bad guys. The first five installments of Axe Cop were put online on January 25, 2010 and went viral in a matter of days, spawning a graphic novel by Dark Horse Books. Axe Cop was developed for television by Fox’s animation unit head Nick Weidenfeld and Judah Miller. Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser serve as executive producers/showrunners. The series ensemble cast includes Megan Mullally, Patton Oswalt, Ken Marino and Peter Serafinowicz.

Exclusive: Jennifer Howell, head of 20th Century Fox TV‘s animation department, is leaving the studio to pursue other opportunities. I hear her contract is up in May and is not being renewed. Howell has headed the department since 20th TV created it in 2008. The series developed on her watch include Fox’s Bob’s Burgers, the recently picked up Murder Police as well as Napoleon Dynamite and Allen Gregory. 20th Century Fox TV chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman are expected to find a replacement. Additionally, Howell ran the joint Fox/20th TV Fox Inkubation initiative focused on breaking new animation talent by evaluating potential toon series through fully-formed 2-minute shorts rather than by traditional script development. The program, also started in 2008, developed a number of projects though none got on the air. Addressing the crowd at the TCA press tour last night, Nick Weidenfeld, the head of Fox's new "Animation Domination High Def" late-night block of shorter form animation, insisted this project was not the network's attempt to go up against Adult Swim. "I don’t think it’s necessarily in competition with anybody in particular. I think that there’s a lot of good stuff that can exist and there’s really, if we’re competing with anybody, I think we’re competing with the Internet more than another network." Regardless of whether or not "Adhd" is going to chase Adult Swim's surrealist stoner vibe and do it successfully, the clip below manages the clever connection of the sad-sackery of Louis C.K.'s "Louie" and Charlie Brown. The new programming block kicks off Saturday, July 27.

It should come as no surprise that Fox's new Saturday night animated comedy block is dubbed Adhd.
Animation Domination High-Def is the network's new alternative animated programming block, featuring quarter-hour series like Axe Cop and High School USA! The form is similar to that of Cartoon Network's late-night programming block Adult Swim, though Adhd's head Nick Weidenfeld, who previously served as head of program development for Adult Swim, says that challenging Swim is not necessarily their intention.

Bad guys beware! The greatest comic ever written (by a 5 year old) is coming to Fox's "Animation Domination," a Saturday late-night animation block slated to begin early next year. Already acquiring the rights to "Axe Cop," Fox plans on ordering six 15-minute episodes of the series which will run both on air and online, reports Variety.
"Axe Cop" is the brain-child of two brothers: Malachai Nicolle, who was just 5 years old when the series began, and Ethan Nicolle, who was 29. The series revolves around a cop (with an axe) and his many exceptionally bizarre companions as they fight "bad guys" and save the world. These companions include, but are not limited to, Flute Cop, Ghost Cop, Telescope Gun Cop, Uni-Baby, Uni-Man, Baby Man, and Wexter, a flying dinosaur with machine gun arms.
