With “Black Mirror” preparing to drop its sixth season on June 15, there’s no time like the present to revisit 15 minutes in the future. Created by Charlie Brooker in 2011, “Black Mirror” uses each of its standalone episodes to craft a (typically) cautionary tale focusing on the intersection of human nature and technology. Some episodes are set in the far-flung future, some in an alternate present, but most tend to sit right at the edges of where we are right now, pushing current ideas, trends, and innovations just a little bit further to create oft-disconcerting tales of where they may lead.
Because each “Black Mirror” episode is intended to function as its own self-contained story, viewers can watch them in any order they please, and even skip episodes entirely if they’d prefer without missing any information that is relevant for the others. Of course, any serious “Black Mirror” viewer will...

‘Rosaline’ Composer Drum & Lace On Mixing Renaissance and Modern Instruments for Shakespearian Score
Hulu’s “Rosaline” (streaming Oct. 14) puts a rom-com spin on Shakespeare’s classic love story “Romeo and Juliet.” With that, composers Drum & Lace (Sofia Hultquist and Ian Hultquist) put a similar spin on their musical approach to scoring.
The film stars Kaitlyn Dever as Rosaline, the story’s jilted ex-lover.
Drum & Lace integrated traditional instruments of the time, such as harpsichord, lute, wooden flutes, renaissance drums and more, into a score with a pop sensibility.
But for the composers whose credits include “Dickinson,” scoring comedy was more of a challenge than scoring drama. Sofia Hultquist said, “You have comedic timing to keep very much in mind. For ‘Rosaline,’ we tried to find very strong themes that we could use often so as to build a familiarity with the characters as well as play up the emotional arcs that were happening on-screen.”
The “Scheming” theme can be heard throughout the film.

After growing up all over the world with her family, Seashell finally feels at home living at the beach with a microphone. This Group A contestant on “The Masked Singer” Season 5 waded out of the water for the first time on Wednesday, March 10 and wowed the panel with her dance moves and powerful vocals. “I loved it!” Nicole Scherzinger told the sparkly, pastel-colored costume. “You know, you seemed a little nervous at first, but once you got started you were in a groove and you killed it.”

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 5 Episode 7 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired April 21 on Fox.
Too hot to handle, too cold to hold, Bobby Brown was the next celebrity to be eliminated on Wednesday night’s edition of “The Masked Singer,” followed immediately by “Sister, Sister” star Tamera Mowry. It was a tough night for the beach, as Brown had been disguised as the Crab, while Mowry was dressed as the Seashell.
That’s right, it was a double elimination evening, part of a two-hour extravaganza that saw the “Super 8” contestants whittled down to just six. Also, viewers got more of a glimpse of the mysterious “Cluedle Doo,” a masked star who is sharing additional clues behind the scenes for viewers — and, for the first time, the panelists on set.
For the Crab, Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg got it right with Brown.

We are thrilled that the Seashell made it to the Super 8 competing on April 21 episode of “The Masked Singer.” We’ve been a fan of hers since she made her debut as part of Group A on the season 5 premiere on March 10. Back then she rocked the house with her cover of “Listen to Your Heart” by Roxette. She returned in Week 3 and impressed with her version of “Confident” by Demi Lovato. And she secured her place in the quarter-final last week with her rendition of “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus feat. Chaka Khan.
The judges are fans of the Seashell as well. But we don’t think they are right with any of their guesses. The Seashell is not Ashanti, Keke Palmer, Alicia Silverstone or Tamia.
We’ve rewatched all of the Seashell performances as well as her clues videos. Keep reading for “The Masked Singer” spoilers, including...

The Seashell is our personal favorite among the Group A contestants on “The Masked Singer.” She may not have the best voice but she certainly can sell a song. We are thrilled that she has made it to the Group A final that airs on April 14. Seashell faces off against the Robopine and Russian Dolls, who’ve been part of Group A from the start, as well as the Wild Card entry Orca, who first surfaced on March 24.
That episode marked the final appearance of the fifth contender from this group: the Raccoon, who was revealed by guest host Niecy Nash to be “Machete” movie star Danny Trejo. The sixth competitor in Group A, the Snail, was eliminated in the March 10 premiere and turned out to be The Muppets star Kermit the Frog.
In week 1, Seashell had the room rocking with her cover of “Listen to Your Heart” by Roxette.

Nick Cannon, aka the artist formerly known as Bulldog, returns to “The Masked Singer” stage this week and fans couldn’t be happier. In fact, two-thirds of viewers who voted in our poll last week said they wanted the host to return Asap to Fox’s reality TV show following his Covid-19 diagnosis. Well, they’ve finally gotten their wish. Nick will officially be back when the sixth episode, titled “Group A Finals – In The Nick Of Time,” airs Wednesday, April 14.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "I wish someone would combine The Voice and The Bachelor and make into one bizarre competition series?" Well, apparently someone did, because that's exactly what ABC's forthcoming reality dating show The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart sounds like. In the series, 20 single men and women (all of whom are musicians or people who work in music) will live together and go on music-themed dates together. Once participants find someone they connect with, the new couple will be tested through musical challenges, such as live performances in front of some of the biggest names in music. As ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said, "Think The Bachelor in Paradise meets A Star Is Born." So basically, the couples will be judged based on whether they have Lady-Gaga-and-Bradley-Cooper-level chemistry on stage.

A week after dumping the love of her life, well, for a decade anyway, Katy is at a crossroads. As this episode opens, she awakens in a bed in the display window of Lacy's, seemingly hungover and out of it. Through flashbacks we are shown that this -- like many events in her life -- are just a mildly amusing comedy of errors. This is a fairytale after all, so viewers are immediately treated to a Pretty Woman-esque montage (complete with use of Roxette's "It Must Have Been Love") of Katy trying to get over her breakup. There are changes coming as the decade winds down and we head into the Roaring 2020s. The Billboard 200 charts, the standard for ranking of what’s doing well in music, will now recognize music videos as a regular part of the experience.
Also on the move is the Recording Academy. A 47-page report issued to a committee led by #MeToo head Tina Tchen is recommending that the voting methodology for the top four categories in the Grammys be changed, and that the organization become more diverse.
Then there’s the weekly Taylor Swift complaint about her back catalog. Surprisingly, she named liberal activist George Soros as one of the guilty parties who had a hand in exploiting the West…er, I mean, her back catalog.
This week in music:
Taylor Blames Soros For Troubles: Taylor Swift spoke out against liberal causes investor George Soros at Thursday’s Billboard Women in Music.

Through the first pair of seasons on the Netflix show “Glow,” most of the characters have been in search of something. Even as Season 3 transplants the series’ central group of wrestlers to the bright lights of Las Vegas, it sure seems like that’s one thing that won’t be changing any time soon.
The show’s three main characters are all still holding on to a tenuous grasp on cooperation. Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) are navigating their complicated relationship inside and outside the ring.
Sam (Marc Maron) made the trip out to Vegas with the rest of the Glow team, but it seems like he and Ruth haven’t quite gotten over last season’s brush with something a little more than friendship. Ruth’s boyfriend Russell (Victor Quinaz) is also in tow, giving her plenty to juggle when she’s not headlining nightly Vegas shows...

This article marks Part 9 of the 21-part Gold Derby series Meryl Streep at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at Meryl Streep’s nominations, the performances that competed with her at the Academy Awards, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the contenders.
By 1989, Meryl Streep had graced the silver screen in 15 motion pictures. Thirteen of these were dramas, with the exceptions being “Manhattan” (1979), in which Streep had a small supporting role, and “Heartburn” (1986), a critical and financial failure. So, it was about time that Streep at last scored a leading role in a successful comedy.
“She-Devil” (1989) found Streep in the broadest, loosest form of her career. Portraying flamboyant romantic novelist Mary Fisher, opposite Roseanne Barr, Streep herself garnered positive notices but the picture flopped even harder than “Heartburn,” spending one week in the box office top 10.
Her follow-up to “She-Devil” had shades of “Heartburn” on paper.
