EW has shared two new official promo stills for Alien: Romulus as part of their summer preview, and one of 'em pays homage to a scene from Aliens.
In James Cameron's follow-up to Ridley Scott's '70s classic, Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn) shows Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) how to use a pulse rifle before the crew land in some real pretty sh*t with the attacking Xenomorphs, and the moment is recreated here with Archie Renaux's Tyler and Cailee Spaeny's Rain Carradine.
The second image gives us another look at a Xenomorph about to give an unfortunate crew member a very bad day.
While the previous movies focused on blue-collar colleagues, soldiers, and prisoners, director Fede Alvarez explains how Romulus will take a different approach by introducing a group of characters who have become as close as family.

Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus will be unleashed in theaters nationwide on August 16, and Entertainment Weekly brings us two new images today.
The first image you’ll find below gives us another fresh look at the film’s Xenomorph, with Alvarez promising the outlet that it’s the most H.R. Giger-faithful Xenomorph of them all.
Entertainment Weekly writes, “… Alvarez promises [the Xenomorph’s design] is closer to H.R. Giger’s original creation than any other iteration.” The late H.R. Giger was of course integral to Ridley Scott’s Alien, designing the iconic monster the franchise is centered on.
The other image you’ll find below gives us a look at two of the human characters from Alien: Romulus, Archie Renaux’s Tyler and Cailee Spaeny’s heroine Rain Carradine.
Head over to Entertainment Weekly for their full preview of the upcoming film.

Back in December, the folks at Spooky Pinball announced that they were making a very limited edition pinball machine inspired by Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. If you (like me) weren’t able to get one of those 888 machines, well, at least that wasn’t our only chance to play a Chainsaw pinball game. A while back, Zen Studios brought a horror-themed pinball game called Pinball M to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Pinball M includes pinball games inspired by the likes of John Carpenter’s The Thing, the Chucky franchise, Dead by Daylight, Duke Nukem, and Zen Studios’ Lovecraft-inspired Wrath of the Elder Gods Director’s Cut – and on June 6th, it will be adding a pinball game inspired by the 2022 film Texas Chainsaw Massacre!

Director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is set to reach theatres on August 16th (you can watch the teaser Here), and we have previously seen a picture of a Xenomorph from the film – in fact, that’s the image featured above this paragraph. Now USA Today has shared another image of an Alien: Romulus Xenomorph, and you can check that one out at the bottom of this article. It has been said that Álvarez was dedicated to using practical effects on this film (we’ve even seen him playing with a remote controlled Facehugger), so it’s nice to see glimpses of these creatures that actually existed on the set.
When this project was announced near the start of 2022, it was said that Álvarez pitched the idea to Ridley Scott years ago and it stuck with Scott. So in late 2021, he called Álvarez and asked...

A new image from Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus has been released (via USA Today), and it gives us another look at one of the movie's Xenomorphs as it bares its terrifying metallic teeth
A few subtle changes aside, the titular creature has pretty much remained the same since it first debuted in Ridley Scott's original classic, and it doesn't look like Romulus is going to alter the design to any great extent.
Check out the new image below, along with a recent video clip of one of the movie's practical Facehuggers.

Talk about effective trailers. The one-minute teaser for Alien: Romulus captures the terror of being trapped with a creature while not giving away any spoilers.
The teaser arrived along with a poster and new stills from the much-anticipated, long-awaited eighth entry in the Alien franchise. Alien: Romulus is set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter director Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead) confirmed how it fits into the Alien universe.
“I love all of those movies. I didn’t want to omit or ignore any of them when it comes to connections at a story level, character level, technology level and creature level. There’s always connections from Alien to Alien: Covenant,” said Álvarez says.
The sci-fi film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and Aileen Wu.

It's been nearly seven years since Ridley Scott returned to the "Alien" franchise with the ever-divisive "Alien: Covenant." While we may not be getting a sequel to that film, Disney and 20th Century Studios are bringing the Xenomorphs back for another big-screen thrill ride in the form of this summer's "Alien: Romulus." Directed by Fede Alvarez, it looks like a return to the franchise's horror roots with new characters, a new ship, and familiar threats.
Alvarez recently spoke with Variety in honor of the recently released "Alien: Romulus" teaser trailer. The filmmaker was asked what he is bringing to the table for his film, which takes place 20 years after the events of the original 1979 sci-fi/horror classic. Alvarez, much like Ridley Scott and James Cameron before him, has a unique view of this universe. But his main goal? Make "Alien" scary again:

Cover your mouths, everyone – a fresh batch of those bastard facehuggers is unleashed in the visceral first trailer for Alien: Romulus, the long-awaited next film in the legendary sci-fi horror franchise. Following Ridley Scott’s flawed but ambitious duology of Prometheus and Alien Covenant (which really could have done with a third and final chapter), the Xenomorph series is heading into a new direction with filmmaker Fede Álvarez. And as anyone who’s seen Don’t Breathe or his 2013 take on Evil Dead will know, the man does not hold back. That’s true, too, for this first Romulus teaser, which really does look like it’ll be another ‘in space, nobody can hear you scream’ situation. Check it out here:
As the accompanying blurb explains, this is a back-to-basics approach for Alien – a bunch of space bods, set upon by cinema’s cruellest creature, fighting for survival. And there’s...

Cailee Spaeny has played American royalty in “Priscilla,” a futuristic photojournalist in Alex Garland’s upcoming “Civil War,” and now is leading the reboot of the iconic “Alien” franchise.
Spaeny is front and center in the teaser trailer for 20th Century Studios’ “Alien: Romulus,” set 20 years after the events of the 1979 original film that launched Sigourney Weaver’s action stardom. Spaeny plays scientist Rain Carradine, one of the young space colonizers that come face to face with the titular murderous alien while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.
“Madame Web” star Isabela Merced is in the cast, as are David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
“Romulus” is the seventh film in the “Alien” franchise — the ninth if you include the “Alien vs. Predator” crossover sci-fi action movies. “Alien” director Ridley Scott produces the film from writer/director Fede Alvarez, who co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues.

Fede Alvarez directs from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (Don’t Breathe 2) based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.
Alien: Romulus is produced by Ridley Scott (Napoleon), who directed the original Alien and produced and directed the series’ entries Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, Michael Pruss (Boston Strangler), and Walter Hill.

It’s finally here! After being teased for months, our first peek at Fede Alvarez’s all-new addition to the xenomorph universe, Alien: Romulus, is here! While the 60 second teaser trailer embedded above doesn’t give us too much of an idea what the film will be like, the blood-covered pod and glimpses of our heroine clutching a pulse rifle make this look like a hard-r rated throwback to both Alien and Aliens.
Here’s the studio’s official logline:

The Alien franchise officially becomes a Disney property with Fede Alvarez’s (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) Alien: Romulus, and the teaser trailer has been unleashed today.
Alien: Romulus will be released only in theaters on August 16, 2024.
Watch the first official trailer for Alien: Romulus below, which gives us glimpses of the iconic Face Huggers and the Xenomorph but mostly soaks us in mystery and suspense. We had been hearing that the new movie would be taking a more contained approach to the franchise, seemingly channeling the spirit of both the original classic and the video game Alien: Isolation.
In Fede Alvarez’s hands, the Alien franchise may be truly terrifying again.
Here’s the brand new official plot synopsis for Alien: Romulus, which comes in the wake of Disney reviving the Predator franchise in spectacular fashion with last year’s Prey…

At the risk of barging too hot out the gate, I'm going to co-sign Chris Evangelista's argument for /Film that there are no bad "Alien" movies. Sure, the various follow-ups to Ridley Scott's classic 1979 original can be polarizing -- especially Scott's gothic prequel films "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" -- but they're never boring, and "Alien" itself remains the rare IP where each individual entry retains the hallmarks of the directors who made them. As though any other franchise would ever let Jean-Pierre Jeunet come in and make a no-holds-barred Jean-Pierre Jeunet sci-fi horror film like "Alien: Resurrection." Just sayin'.
For as much as I would've liked it if Scott got to finish telling the story of the beloved homicidal android David (Michael Fassbender) with his intended prequel trilogy finale "Alien: Awakening," I'm curious to see what Fede Álvarez comes up with playing in this particular sandbox. The "Evil Dead...

Director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming contribution to the Alien franchise, the feature film Alien: Romulus, is on track for an August 16th theatrical release – and according to World of Reel, a test screening was just held in California a few days ago. The site reports that test screening audience members have revealed plot details (which line up with a synopsis that recently showed up online), the reason for the Romulus subtitle, and a new design element for the iconic Facehuggers that make them more dangerous than ever before!
Here’s the synopsis, as shared by Perfect Organism: A group of scavengers depart their home planet for an abandoned spaceship, aiming to steal equipment. Unleashing baby Xenos and the fearsome Xenomorph in a gory battle. More chest rips and stunning visuals, staying true to the franchise’s essence with some twists.

Isabela Merced, who can be seen in this weekend’s release Madame Web and also has a role in the currently-filming second season of The Last of Us, is one of the star’s up director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming contribution to the Alien franchise, the feature film Alien: Romulus, which is on track for an August 16, 2024 theatrical release. Merced is doing the press rounds to promote Madame Web, and during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter she teased that Alien: Romulus features a scene that’s so disgusting, a lot of viewers will have to look away from the screen. Given that this is an Alien movie from the filmmaker who previously brought us movies like Evil Dead 2013 and Don’t Breathe, the idea of it featuring such a scene definitely makes sense to me.

There’s a brand new Alien movie on the way from Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez this year, and, per Deadline, it’s officially been given the title Alien: Romulus.
Alien: Romulus is currently set to launch into theaters on August 16, 2024.
According to star Cailee Spaeny (The Craft: Legacy, Pacific Rim Uprising) in a recent chat with Variety, the Alien: Romulus movie takes place in between the first two films.
“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie,” Spaeny tells the outlet. “They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours.
“So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible.”

Fede Alvarez is bringing something fresh to the Alien franchise with his upcoming movie, potentially titled “Alien: Romulus.” This film is set to be a captivating bridge between the classic films Alien and Aliens. In an engaging talk with Variety’s Michaela Zee, lead actress Cailee Spaeny shared some intriguing insights about the project.
Spaeny, who has a diverse portfolio, including the Priscilla Presley biopic “Priscilla” and “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” is excited about her return to sci-fi. She mentioned the unique experience of working with the original team from James Cameron’s Aliens. These are the same craftsmen who built the iconic xenomorphs. For Spaeny, working alongside these legends, who have dedicated over four decades to the Alien saga, is an incredible journey. She enjoys the shift from glamorous roles to the challenging, action-packed realm of sci-fi.

Cailee Spaeny plays the title character in director Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic Priscilla, and she also happens to have a lead role in director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming addition to the Alien franchise, a film that may or may not be titled Alien: Romulus. That movie is on track for an August 16, 2024 theatrical release – and while talking with Variety‘s Michaela Zee, Spaeny revealed that the story is set between the events of the original Alien and its sequel Aliens.

Actor Cailee Spaeny has confirmed that the events of Alien: Romulus will unfold between those of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens.
When it was announced last year that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez would be heading up a new movie in the Alien franchise, the line was that its story (co-written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues) would be unconnected to the previous films.
That’s likely still true, but we now at least know when the plot of Alien: Romulus will take place – between the events of 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens. Rumours of this timeline placement have been floating around for a few months now, but actor Cailee Spaeny, who has a currently undisclosed role in Romulus, recently confirmed this to Variety's Michaela Zee.
“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie,” Spaeny said. “They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film.

Director Fede Alvarez should now be in production on the new movie in the Alien franchise, a project which may or may not be called Alien Romulus. Originally designed to debut on Hulu, Disney recently announced an August 16, 2024 theatrical release date for the movie, which bodes well for its quality. So as a filmmaker who’s known for moments of brutal, cringe-inducing violence works to bring the Xenomorphs back to our screens, we decided it was time to put together an article that keeps track of Everything We Know About Fede Alvarez’s New Alien Movie.

The next movie in the Alien film franchise is directed by Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe filmmaker Fede Alvarez, which will notably be the first Alien movie released by Disney.

“Don’t Breathe” and “Evil Dead” director Fede Álvarez is reviving the “Alien” franchise next year with the release of a new sequel (reportedly titled “Alien: Romulus”), which he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues. The film will tell a new story within the “Alien” universe after the film franchise came to a halt following Ridley Scott’s prequel films “Prometheus” (2012) and “Alien: Covenant” (2017). The latter’s middling box office ended Scott’s run. “Alien: Romulus” will be the first “Alien” movie released since Disney acquired Fox.
Speaking to Guillermo del Toro at the DGA Latino Summit 2023 (around the 18:35 mark), Álvarez confirmed that his “director’s cut” of “Alien: Romulus” is finished and he recently “had to go through the incredibly tense process of obviously sending it to Ridley Scott,” who is a lead producer on the sequel. Scott directed the original “Alien” in 1979.

Hulu and 20th Century’s excellent Prey put the Predator franchise back on the map in 2022 with a very fresh take on the material, all but securing a future for a film series that had floundered in recent years after so many false starts.
But what about the studio’s other massive sci-fi horror film saga? Despite the fact that it’s been over 40 years since Alien first hit the big screen in 1979, interest and speculation about the franchise has only grown in the decades since. It’s unfortunate, then, that the future of the Alien series feels so up in the air right now when compared to its sister series.
Fortunately, there are two new projects poised to carry on the Alien legacy and take things in new directions beyond the core Ridley Scott movies…

Noah Hawley’s FX series Alien has found one of its leads in Sydney Chandler, the network has confirmed.
Back at January’s TCA, FX boss John Landgraf said that the Fargo creator was in pre-production on Alien with an eye on starting production this year. There’s a kind of shaggy glory to Evil Dead: Sam Raimi’s demonic scary movie series spawned from the writer/director’s triumphant indie horror marvel from 1981. Starring childhood friend Bruce Campbell and shot in the Tennessee wilderness with next to no budget, the inaugural outing with Raimi’s Necronomicon (aka Book of the Dead) and its flesh-ripping Deadites — also known by the original film’s title, “The Evil Dead” — established a formula for four more films with immeasurable influence on skin-peeling, tendon-snapping, chainsaw-revving pop culture as we know it.
The first film sees final guy Ash Williams (Campbell), his sister Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), his girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker), and friends Scott (Richard DeManincor) and Shelly (Theresa Tilly) heading out for a stay at a remote cabin. Once there, a cursed book and tape summons a demonic presence that slowly begins to feast on the souls of the unlucky travelers one by one.

Since Alien and Aliens were set on a planetoid known as Lv-426, April 26th (4/26) is considered to be Alien Day. Director Fede Alvarez is currently in production on a new installment in the Alien franchise, and he celebrated Alien Day by sharing a picture from the set on social media. In this image we see a clapperboard and a Facehugger on a set that looks… pretty much how you would expect a sci-fi movie set to look.
Happy #AlienDay everybody! pic.twitter.com/vWyWtThUfj

This new Alien movie is coming to us from Momentum and 20th Century Studios, with Ridley Scott producing through his Scott Free banner. It’s being made for release through the Hulu streaming service, much like the Predator franchise addition Prey that was released last year (and turned out to be one of the more well-received entries in that series).

There are certain success stories in the history of cinema that serve to inspire filmmakers for generations to come. Existing right alongside Kevin Smith's low-budget comedy "Clerks" and Robert Rodriguez's "El Mariachi," there is Sam Raimi's all-time horror classic "The Evil Dead," which was made on a shoestring budget with his pals, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell, in the early '80s. It ultimately found success despite its lack of resources, having earned more than $29 million in ticket sales to date. Not bad for a movie that was made for a mere $375,000.
Be that as it may, even today, the 1981 film is probably closer to a cult classic than it is a bonafide mainstream hit. Yes, horror...
