Boardwalk Empire Episode 3.10 “A Man, A Plan”
Written by: Dave Flebotte
Directed by: Podeswa
Airs Sunday 9.00pm Est on HBO
This show featured beaches. The same beach, three ways. First we got the kind of set piece for which the series is rightly famous: bathers clad in vintage knitted swimsuits discover whisky bottles washing up on the shore, while an ancient Jupiter abandons his lines to follow them. This subtext of hedonism beating culture hands down is later mitigated by the second beach scene, as luminous as a Hatfield painting, where Richard Harrow and Julia Sigorski (beautifully played by the pensive Wrenn Schmidt) finally embrace with dreamlike peacefullness. And then we have the third scene. Gyp Rosetti and blood in the sand. The same place witnesses pleasure, love and violence: all the aspects of the human condition.
Those scenes punctuated the rest of the drama, giving it structure and balance.

Oh no, Owen Sleater. Last week we wondered what terrible fate Nucky's driver and Margaret's Irish lover on the side would meet for conspiring to run off with his boss' wife, and this episode delivered that brutal answer.
Sent to New York to take out Gyp Rosetti's ally Joe Masseria in a Turkish bath, Owen returned in a box, his dead, bloodied body back sent back to Nucky in the middle of the night. Lucky Luciano tipped off Masseria that a hit was in the works in exchange for financial backing on a big heroin deal.
But how did Luciano know the details of the hit? He wasn't in the room when it was being discussed, and after Rothstein walked in on Nucky's plea for help last episode, his crew wouldn't have been privy to that information.

The writing was on the wall when Charlie Cox showed up for his first U.S. talk-show interview last Monday night. He wasn't just promoting Boardwalk Empire – he was probably also looking to Jimmy Fallon for a little exposure now that he's out of a job. With two more episodes to go, we've arrived at the home stretch, and if last season's body count is any indication, there will be more names disappearing from the series' opening-credits sequence over the next couple of weeks.

Well, now we know what this was all about. When it comes to retaliation, Gyp has got style. His decision to blow up Babette's Supper Club, complete with a Michael Bay-caliber explosion, no longer places him in the company of second-rate, forgettable gangsters. As he stated in an earlier episode, all business to him is personal, even if it isn't to Nucky. And now Gyp has evened the score by making this war plenty personal for his New Jersey enemy: Billie was one of the fatalities.
It was a pithy love affair with the erstwhile Nadine Beckenbauer of Newburgh, New York, for both Nucky and the audience. But even if Gyp hadn't taken out this budding starlet, it's unlikely her fling with her Atlantic City beau would've lasted much longer. For one thing, a successful screen test had put her on the fast track to a movie career. And...

Nucky Thompson has impressively wielded his extensive power and resources throughout the run of Boardwalk Empire. Though he may have only embraced his "full gangster" recently, Thompson has proven to be quite adept at political maneuvering and rallying the troops to vanquish whatever enemy dared to threaten his position as King of Atlantic City. However, now that he's facing someone as violent and dangerous as Gyp Rosetti, Nucky can't rely on the long-con anymore; he can't wait for the right moment to strike or Gyp will have gotten too powerful to take down.
But is it already too late?
Below are the dates, episode names, episode descriptions, and repeat airings for the next four episodes of Boardwalk Empire's third season.
Sunday, November 4th - "Pony"
Gillian (Gretchen Mol) makes her peace with Jimmy’s death, though not with Nucky (Steve Buscemi), as Gyp (Bobby Cannavale) arrives to play ally.

WorkSafe Victoria has re-launched a campaign to encourage businesses and their staff to sign up for free work health checks.
The ad, a different version of which broke last September, states that out of a half a million people who went for free work health checks, two in three found they faced serious health risks.
Radio and online will run in support on the TV work.
The campaign, which directs viewers to the website Workhealthvic.gov.au, was created by Grey Melbourne.
