[The following story contains spoilers from the Snowfall series finale “The Struggle.”]
For six seasons, FX’s Snowfall explored how the crack cocaine epidemic contributed to the destruction of a community in South Central Los Angeles. The 1980s-set drama also touched on the intersections between the unfolding drug crisis and larger societal and geopolitical issues like the Iran-Contra affair and Cold War tensions between the CIA and Kgb.
But for its final episode, which aired Wednesday night, the series, co-created by the late John Singleton, ended in some ways as it began, with Damson Idris‘ Franklin Saint walking along a palm tree-lined street.
“For all of the show’s aspirations and its geopolitical reach, it started on the street with a kid who was full of potential in a neighborhood that was just a working-class neighborhood on a summer day,” showrunner Dave Andron tells The Hollywood Reporter of ending the series on Franklin. “And we always knew that the story,...

Everyone involved with Snowfall told us that the series wouldn’t end well. No one consumed by the show’s crescendoing tension could expect anything but tragedy.
Few, if any, outlaws ever got away scot-free. And, even with the boundless capabilities of historical fiction, neither could Damson Idris’s Franklin Saint. Many Snowfall fans anticipated the series concluding with him being whisked away by the CIA, or killed at the hands of his Aunt Louie (Angela Lewis) — if not one of the many people whose lives he’d ruined en...

Another one bites the dust in "Snowfall" season six, and for fans who have been following the show since the very beginning, it's been a long time coming for this character. Earlier this season, the '80 set crime drama - which chronicles the epic rise and fall of Franklin's (Damson Idris) drug organization during the crack epidemic in South Central Los Angeles - bid farewell to Jerome (Amin Joseph) after he was shot and killed for trying to save his wife Louie (Angela Lewis). Now, in "Snowfall"'s penultimate episode, infamous foe Teddy (Carter Hudson) has suffered his own tragic fate as his heinous actions have finally caught up to him.
As many "Snowfall" fans know, Teddy has been instrumental to Franklin's drug operation ever since the latter traded in his college textbooks for a kingpin crown in season one. The former CIA operative - who's been running an...

The Season 6 premiere titled “Fallout” begins with a reminder of who is affected by the drug epidemic then and now which goes well beyond dealers, users, and all others involved directly by choice.

Longtime crime fiction novelist and “Snowfall” writer Walter Mosley says John Singleton gave writers everything creatively that they needed to know to continue “Snowfall” before his April 2019 death.
“Snowfall” is set to premiere its sixth and final season on Feb. 22 on FX. The series has become the network’s top-rated show, averaging 4.3 million total viewers across linear, VOD and streaming with its Season 5 debut.
Aside from its stellar cast, the show’s success can easily be attributed to Dave Andron, co-creater, executive producer and writer; Mosley, executive producer and writer; and the late Singleton, who co-created the series alongside Andron and Eric Amadio. Singleton died about three months before show’s Season 3 premiere, and the show has since maintained the essence and meticulousness of Singleton’s creative decisions and guidance.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the season finale of CBS and MGM Television’s Clarice.
On Thursday, Clarice came to the end of its first (and likely final) season, presenting resolution in the case of the Anacostia River murders, as well as signs of personal growth on the part of the titular FBI agent, and a couple of major deaths.
By the time finale, “Family Is Freedom” kicks off, ViCap has uncovered most of the dark secrets of Alastar Pharmaceuticals and its emotionally disturbed CEO, Nils Hagen (Peter McRobbie). Putting her career on the line to aid them in their investigation is Clarice’s fellow agent and best friend, Ardelia (Devyn A. Clarice is poised to be silenced by CBS in the coming weeks.
The Silence of the Lambs prequel was initially set to move to Paramount+ following its low-rated CBS run, but now the series is in a more precarious position than before.
Deadline is reporting that talks between the streamer and co-producer MGM have fallen through, with neither side able to agree on a deal to keep the show alive.
The news is not that surprising. Clarice was reported to be in contention to move from Paramount+ alongside Evil and Seal Team, but when the streamer officially picked up the other two, Clarice was notably absent.
Moving a series from broadcast to streaming is not an easy business because it means that new deals have to be struck, and Deadline says that the license fee for the show was set to increase from the $1.2 million - $1.3 million fee on CBS...

If you’ve always wanted a deeper dive into the mind of The Silence of the Lambs‘ Clarice Starling, then CBS has a new show for you. Clarice, which takes place in 1993, aka a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs, will tell the “untold personal story” of Clarice Starling as she returns to the field. In the new CBS show, the very hard work of catching serial murderers and sexual predators will be made even more complicated by the high-stakes political world of D.C. The series comes from Star Trek‘s Alex Kurtzman and Rachel Getting Married‘s Jenny Lumet, and the first episode was directed by Maja Vrvilo, whom you may recognize from her recent, excellent work from both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. Basically, Clarice is a new TV show to look out for—whether you are a fan of Thomas Harris’ work or not.

Well, it’s not more Hannibal, but a new TV series based on the Hannibal Lecter universe created by Thomas Harris is on its way.
CBS has revealed the first teaser trailer for Clarice, a period sequel to the Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs that follows FBI agent Clarice Starling. And just like the movie and novel before it, the promo makes use of the iconic butterfly motif.
Clarice takes place in 1993, coming one year after the events of the aforementioned film. Rebecca Breeds (The Originals) will tackle the iconic role that was memorably played by Jodie Foster in Silence, as well by Julianne Moore in 2001 sequel Hannibal. The rest of the cast, meanwhile, includes Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead), Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar), Nick Sandow (Orange is the New Black) and Devyn A. Tyler (Fear the Walking Dead). Star Trek: Discovery producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin serve as EPs.

When CBS Friday announced a series order for Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice starring Rebecca Breeds, the announcement included three key new cast members whose deals had closed after the coronavirus pandemic suspended all pilot production in mid-March, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow and Michael Cudlitz.
Designated Survivor and The Good Doctor alum Penn became available after NBC/Universal Television released the cast of Sunnyside. Penn co-created, executive produced and starred in the freshman comedy series, which has not been officially canceled by NBC. The producers of Clarice reached out to him, leading to discussions about the project and ultimately a deal for him to join it.
Written/executive produced by Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman, Clarice is set in 1993, six months after the events of Thomas Harris’ The Silence of the Lambs. It tells the personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field to...

CBS has picked up three new series for next season: The Equalizer reboot starring Queen Latifah, Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice starring Rebecca Breeds; and the Chuck Lorre-Marco Pennette multi-camera comedy B Positive headlined by Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford. The dramas have received straight-to-series orders, while B Positive was the only completed broadcast pilot this season, which was decimated by the coronavirus-related Hollywood production shutdown. As part of the pickups, Chris Noth has joined the cast of The Equalizer, and the remaining cast of Clarice, led by Kal Penn, has been revealed.
With the TV industry in flux, CBS has been the most proactive with decisions on pilots, recently passing on drama The Lincoln Lawyer, which had a series production commitment, from A+E Studios and CBS TV Studios, and comedy Fun, from Warner Bros. TV. I hear no other CBS pilots have been killed at this time.

Despite the coronavirus shutting down production on the majority of pilot season, CBS ordered three new series for next season, including its “Silence of the Lambs” sequel from Alex Kurtzman and Queen Latifah’s reboot of “The Equalizer.”
Additionally, the network ordered its latest series from uber-producer Chuck Lorre in “B Positive,” which stars “Silicon Valley” alum Thomas Middleditch and Annaleigh Ashford about a therapist who becomes friends with his kidney donor.
The “Silence of the Lambs” sequel — titled “Clarice” — will follow Clarice Starling six months after the events of the movie. Rebecca Breeds takes over the role famously played by Jodie Foster in the 1991 movie. “The Equalizer” will see Queen Latifah step into the role played by Edward Woodward in CBS’ 1980s version, and more famously by Denzel Washington in a pair of movies.
Earlier this week, CBS renewed 18 series for next year.

CBS has made three series pick ups for the 2020-2021 season.
On the drama side, CBS has ordered the “Equalizer” reboot starring Queen Latifah and “Clarice,” which follows Clarice Starling in the aftermath of “The Silence of the Lambs.” On the comedy side, the network has picked up the multi-cam “B Positive,” which hails from Chuck Lorre.
The shows mark the first shows that were going through the normal pilot season process to get picked up for next season. Nearly all pilots were unable to complete filming before the Covid-19 pandemic forced a suspension of prodution. “B Positive” was one of the only pilots to complete filming before that happened. CBS had originally ordered 14 pilots this season, with both drama “The Lincoln Lawyer” and comedy “Fun” having been passed over in the past week.
CBS renewed the vast majority of its scripted lineup earlier this week, with 23 current shows now set to return next season.

Queen Latifah-Led Equalizer Reboot, Silence of the Lambs Sequel Clarice Among 3 Series Orders at CBS
CBS on Friday handed out series orders to a trio of buzzy projects: A reboot of late-’80s crime drama The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah, the Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice, and Chuck Lorre’s organ donor sitcom B Positive.
Equalizer and Clarice scored pickups without ever producing pilot episodes. B Positive, meanwhile, was one of the few projects that managed to wrap shooting on its pilot ahead of Hollywood’s coronavirus shutdown.

The upcoming Clarice Starling series at CBS has added two more cast members.
Lucca de Oliveira and Devyn A. Tyler have both joined the show, which received a series commitment at the network in January. It follows follows FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) in the aftermath of the events of “Silence of the Lambs” as she hunts down new serial murderers and sexual predators while also navigating the political world of Washington D.C.
Oliveira will star as Tomas Esquivel. The character attended Dartmouth on an Rotc scholarship and became a counter-sniper during Operation Desert Storm. He is initially suspicious of Clarice, and her singular background in the Bureau. Esquivel has gone through his own kind of hazing, and is torn between his love of service, and his belief that the FBI needs to shake off its old school mentality.

‘Clarice’: Lucca De Oliveira & Devyn A. Tyler To Co-Star In CBS’ ‘Silence Of The Lambs’ Sequel Pilot
Lucca De Oliveira (The Punisher) and Devyn A. Tyler (Out Of Blue) are set as leads opposite Rebecca Breeds in CBS’ crime drama pilot Clarice, based on the famous Thomas Harris character. The project written and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet has a big series commitment. Additionally, Maja Vrvilo (Star Trek: Picard) has been tapped to direct the pilot.
Clarice is set in 1993, a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling (Breeds), as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington, D.C.

It’s comforting to discover that the Martin Amis novel Carol Morley’s Out of Blue adapts is considered a “comedic parody” because I couldn’t wrap my head around the blatant noir affectation she had her stellar cast provide. An off-putting drama full of red herrings meant to distract from a predictable end, despite those artificial performances being intentional, the sheer fact I wasn’t sure if I should be laughing renders the result less than successful.
With that said, though, it is interesting. Centering upon the death of an astrophysicist and expert in black holes (Mamie Gummer’s Jennifer Rockwell), the story follows Detective Mike Hoolihan (Patricia Clarkson) and her quest to bring a murderer to justice. After reading a synopsis of the novel it seems as though that’s where the similarities end. Instead of being relegated to menial work around the precinct like her literary counterpart,...

While a second season on ABC seems like a real long shot, ABC hasn't officially cancelled The Gates (unlike say, My Generation). One of the show's stars however has been told that there won't be a second season.
The Gates follows a Chicago police detective (Frank Grillo) who moves his family to a gated suburban community to become the neighborhood's security chief. They soon discover that their new neighbors aren't as normal as they appear to be. The large cast includes Andrea Powell, Rhona Mitra, Marisol Nichols, Luke Mably, Travis Caldwell, Skyler Samuels, Chandra West, Colton Haynes, Janina Gavankar, Justin Miles, Victoria Gabrielle Platt, James Preston, Georgia Cole, Johnny Messner, Brett Cullen, Shannon Lucio, Devyn A. Tyler, McKaley Miller, and Louis Herthum.
Ratings expectations are lower in the summer months but the suburban supernatural series averaged only a 0.9 rating in the all-important 18-49...

The Gates can best be summarized as Desperate Housewives meetings Twilight meets True Blood meets Twin Peeks. Yes, the show is a mish-mash of many familiar topics and themes, but I enjoyed the pilot episode that I previewed. This new ABC summer series will be premiering on June 20 and we have three sneak peeks for you below.
