Cancer subplots are an extremely tough needle to thread on television. When you're dealing with a disease that causes millions of new cases each year, the line between handling the subject sensitively and crossing the line into exploitation is thinner and blurrier than it might be with other topics. "Bones" may have done a poor job handling cannibalistic serial killers with its Gormogon arc -- a storyline that even Booth himself, David Boreanaz, has admitted was "bad television" -- but for the vast majority of people watching at home, cannibalistic serial killers, unlike cancer, aren't something they'll ever have to worry about in their real lives.
This was absolutely on creator Hart Hanson and his writing staff's minds when they decided to tackle The Big C. "Bones," unlike a lot of other crime procedurals, was equally invested in the home lives of the Jeffersonian Institute's employees as when they were...

Ryan Murphy's Fox procedural "9-1-1" is billed as a show about heroes. More specifically, the show follows first responders — firefighters, 911 operators, and cops on the front lines of disasters. As such, the audience is always encouraged to root for the main characters as they face danger and emotional devastation to get the job done. That doesn't mean that every character in the show is endlessly lovable, of course. These first responders all have their demons to contend with — demons they must put aside while in the field.
If "9-1-1" were filled with totally unlikable characters, it wouldn't work. This is a show about selfless people who run toward the fire, not away from it. Nonetheless, while every character in the series gives 100 percent to the job, their personal lives are another matter. Some characters deal with their problems better than others, and that's what makes the show interesting. Nobody's perfect,...

Bones said goodbye after 12 seasons on Tuesday night, with a series finale that paid tribute to the brilliant mind of Dr. Temperance Brennan, by showing what life would be like without it.
In the aftermath of the bombing at the Jeffersonian, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) thankfully survives -- as do Booth (David Boreanaz), Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) -- but she knows immediately that something’s wrong. Unable to remember what she was doing prior to the explosion or recall what the team was working on, Brennan tearfully insists to Booth that “something is wrong with me.”
And she’s right. Once the foursome escapes the rubble of the Medico-Legal Lab, Cam (Tamara Taylor) informs the forensic anthropologist that she has a contusion on her corpus callosum, the nerves that join the two hemispheres of the brain. Essentially, the brilliant scientist has lost her ability to process complex information, a devastating...

When Bones signs off on Tuesday night, after 12 seasons on Fox, it will do so as the network’s longest-running scripted drama, having solved -- according to finale promos -- 275 cases in 246 episodes. And that prolific conviction rate may not even be the most impressive thing that the series accomplished.
Because Bones -- which was based on the life and works of real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs -- did more than just stay on the air, leapfrogging more than 20 different time slots in its 12-year run. In a television landscape populated with morose antiheroes and sarcastic protagonists that often poke fun at the earnestness of cops-and-science procedurals like Bones, sometimes directly by name (see: American Dad, Bojack Horseman, Bob’s Burgers and more), the show was a champion of justice and evidence, science and guts, “brains and heart.” It told new stories every week, while at the same time unfolding its central characters little by little, making...

CBS’s newest procedural drama, Stalker, didn’t waste any time jumping right into the subject matter, so I won’t either. In the very first scene, viewers watched as Pretty Little Liars‘ Torrey DeVitto made a brief cameo on the show before literally going up in flames. The death of her character became the basis for tonight’s primary investigation, but viewers can already clearly see several longer lasting storylines starting to take root within the narrative.
For an introduction, the writers scored major points by going big. Off the bat they make a graphic statement about what viewers can expect from the show, and it’s fairly intense, although not entirely original. This series will have to give viewers something worthwhile if it wants to keep its fanbase intact.

Though Kevin Williamson is the Scream King, the debut of his new series Stalker was more of a whimper. And I'm not just talking about the sounds coming from the victims of the show's eponymous creeps. There was something literally and viscerally bloodless about the premiere, which was touted by CBS as "the scariest drama to ever air" on TV and which I have to admit was one of my most anticipated series of the 2014–2015 season. The pilot didn't have quite the lingering chill it could or should have... nor did it have the narrative fire its multiple gasoline-drenched set pieces hoped to convey.

“Sort of the past few years, the cliffhanger was Pelant . It was a serial killer. This time, we wanted our ongoing threat — at least from the end of season 9 to the beginning of season 10 — to be something very vague and conspiratorial rather than one evil person,” he tells EW. “It took us in a very, very different direction and put the characters in...

"Bones" has been renewed for Season 10 on Fox for the 2014-2015 television season. But are there really more stories to tell on this romantic procedural after so many years?
The Season 10 news came along with an announcement that "Bones" would be moving back to its Monday, 8 p.m. timeslot as of March 10. The series, which has previously aired on every weeknight over its nine seasons, occupied this position on the schedule during the fall of 2013.
This is great news for "Bones" fans ... or is it? A Season 10 renewal means that "Bones" will reach the 200th episode milestone -- a huge deal for any program nowadays -- and it means at least one more year following the investigations of Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz). Those are good things. The bad part may come in when we consider if there are any stories left to tell on "Bones.

"Bones" should know that it's still too soon to kill off another squintern.
After all, is anybody over the shocking death of Vincent Nigel-Murray a few seasons back? The answer is no. One therefore has to question why "Bones" has decided to threaten Wendell Bray with a potentially terminal case of Ewing's sarcoma in "Big in the Philippines."
It's not right.
Granted, there's no indication that Wendell is actually doomed yet. This is more likely just one of those "put a beloved character through trauma so that the audience will love him more" things. You know, like they used to do to Willow on a monthly basis back on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
That's got to be it. Unless someone has gone and cast Michael Grant Terry in a major pilot. And there should be news of that if it were true. Thus, we go with trials. Let's just hope...

Bones will likely be renewed for its 10th and final season, Fox chairman Kevin Reilly revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour. With that in mind — here are five things we want to see before we say goodbye to Booth, Bones, and the squints forever.
5. Bring back Zach! (And other characters): When the season 3 finale revealed Dr. Zach Addy (Eric Millegan) as Gormogon’s apprentice, it disappointed many fans. It’s time the writers brought him back (although he has since appeared in three episodes) and set it right. In season 4, we learn Zach didn’t actually kill...

New Bones season 9,episode 13 spoilers & clips hit the net. Last night, Fox dropped the new spoilers and sneak peek/spoiler clip (below) for their upcoming "Bones" episode 13 of season 9. The episode is entitled, "Big In The Philippines," and it appears to get quite awkward at one point as a grinded up penis is spotted in their latest lab investigation, and more. In the new "Big In The Philippines" episode, a country music singer that's famous in the Philippines, is going to end up, getting murdered. The Jeffersonian team is going to investigate the death of Colin Haynes (guest star Charlie Worsham), a struggling country music singer whose remains were found in a shallow grave. When the team finds out about the victim's music career, it will end up, leading them to his record label, which, they will discover, was deceitful in its dealings with him. In the meantime, squintern Wendall...

Two things that don't usually go together -- family reunions and strippers -- will meet in the next "Bones" episode, "The Party in the Pants." Not only will we get to meet Booth's mother (Joanna Cassidy) for the first time, but we may get a peek at the FBI agent with his clothes off.
What could be better than that?
When a guy like Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) -- a man with an awful lot of parental issues -- finds his long-absent mother just sitting in his office, what happens? The next video has the answer.
"I wasn't sure you'd remember me -- what's it been, 25 years?" This would be why Booth has issues with his parents. Seriously, a mother who stays away for more than two decades without mean criminals chasing her? This is going to be stressful, even if mother and son have a happy reunion at first.

Dr. Oliver Wells (Brian Klugman) arrived in "The Fact in the Fiction" to be the newest squintern rotating through the crime-fighting world of "Bones." But how does Wells measure up against his competition? Using standards of education, social skills and sheer entertainment value,
Education
Dr. Wells is easily one of the best-educated of the squinterns. Like Clark Edison (Eugene Byrd), Wells has a PhD. On top of this, he has a whole pile of Masters degrees.
Without doctorates of their own, the others don't have a chance.
Intelligence
You need to be smart in order to finish all of those degrees in a reasonable amount of time. Since most of the other squinterns have but one field of study, Wells -- with his widely varied advanced degrees (Law? Seriously?) -- totally wins there.
On the other hand, this might just be an inability to focus. There's a good chance that...

Roller derby is a big thing on TV right now. In the past few years, we have seen plots involving the violent sport used in shows as varied as "Top Chef," "Bunheads," "The Bachelor" and "Psych." Now, "Bones" joins in on the trend with "The Doll in the Derby."
The case begins when the team must investigate the murder of a derby competitor whose remains are found dismembered. Initial examinations indicate that the victim may have suffered from domestic abuse. At least, that's the conclusion that birthday-boy Wendell (Michael Grant Terry) comes to after seeing all of her earlier injuries.
But as we know from the title of the episode, that's not it. The victim participated in roller derby.
Based on what you see on TV, it's a wonder anyone ever survives roller derby. Those athletes are always bleeding and broken. Maybe it's even the truth -- roller skating is...

Cam and Arastoo’s covert romance will be exposed during the second half of Bones‘ current eighth season — that much we know. What’s still unclear is whether their relationship will be able to survive the inevitable scrutiny.
“This is not a fling,” maintains Arastoo’s portrayer, Pej Vahdat, in this latest, Squintern-themed installment of Fox’s Breakfast With Bones web series. “[They're] in love.”
Press Play below to watch Vahadat’s colleagues, Eugene Byrd and Michael Grant Terry, weigh in on the workplace relationship and (playfully) grill the actor about his character’s true intentions.

Bones is at its best when the show takes a more serious tone.
Tonight’s episode started off in its now-typical light-hearted fashion. Booth (David Boreanaz) makes Brennan (Emily Deschanel) watch a basketball game, and she obsesses over Phil Jackson’s coaching techniques and his ideas on teamwork. She gathers all the interns together to help them form a more cohesive bond, instead of fighting for her admiration. While they are working to identify remains in the Jeffersonian, they come across a homeless man whose death was overlooked by the police. They come to find out that he was Tim Murphy,...

"The Other Side" sets its procedural story up as one large metaphor for the upcoming drama that is about to unfold.
I just wish the killer kid story hadn’t been used back-to-back.
Thankfully, Pierce being the culprit isn’t the main takeaway from the story – it’s his genetics. Pierce is half Lowen-half Genio Innocuo, and, because of that, if he can’t keep his emotions in check his violent side comes out. It’s a light twist to what Renard is going through.
The potion Adalind’s mother gave Renard brought out, or brought about, feelings of infatuation with Juliette when he kissed her awake. His obsessions are growing, and according to Monroe, it’s only going to get worse and worse. The infatuation is already beginning to influence his choices. Like Pierce, Renard’s compulsive obsession with Juliette seems to be driving him subconsciously, and those actions...

I’m going to skip all of the really bad caffeine related intro sentences popping in my mind and just go straight to tell you if you enjoy Adalind Schade on Grimm, you are going to be happy to learn that you will be seeing even more of her in season 2 of NBC’s supernatural cop, as Claire Coffee has been upgraded to a regular for the upcoming season. Coffee is the second Grimm actress to be promoted that I’ve heard of, following the earlier word on Bree Turner’s upped Grimm status.
Adalind was already a fixture in the show, having appeared in the majority of the first season’s episodes and being at least mentioned in almost every other. In fact, she is the first non-human that Nick ever sees. Grimm returns to NBC for round 2 this Friday and has had a really busy off-season of guest star announcements.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Halloween episode of NBC's Grimm has just added a dash of beauty in midst of all the chaos.
Kate del Castillo has signed on to appear on the supernatural procedural as Detective Valentina Marquez, who comes to Portland when the child abductor she's been tracking for years comes onto Nick and Hank's radar. The episode will reportedly be based on La Llorona ("The Weeping Woman"), a Mexican legend about a woman named Maria killing her children to be with a man. However, he rejects her and she commits suicide, ultimately spending the rest of eternity wandering the Earth in search of her children as punishment for her actions.
The actress joins an already strong slate of guest stars for Grimm, which has already attracted a plethora of quality appearances in its first 26 episodes. John Pyper-Ferguson (Alphas), Mark Pellegrino (Lost), and Maddie Hasson (The Finder...

Getting a little Grimm at Boomtron for a minute with this peek into the upcoming second season of NBC’s supernatural/cop show which actually kicks back off tonight. It is not of the show’s star (David Giuntoli) or partner (Russell Hornsby), or even Nick’s girl, instead it’s a scene featuring on of the Grimm’s season 2 guest stars. Back in June we told you Mark Pellegrino would be turning up in Grimm, which makes total sense because he seemingly has to be in every speculative fiction program. He’s just making his rounds.
Specifically, this image, which debuted via TVline, is tagged as from the third episode of the season, titled “Bad Moon Rising”. Pellegrino looks pretty animated here (and I guess drives a Dodge), playing a high school friend of Hank (the aforementioned Hornsby) named Jarold Kempfer, who as we told you before is also a coyotl.

Grimm: Kristina Anapau to Guest Star in Season 2
According to TVLine, Grimm will be heading from the forest to the pulpit in an upcoming episode that will feature Kristina Anapau (True Blood). The actress will be playing the meek secretary of a Wesen church that has been carrying on an affair with the reverend; when not taking phone calls and booking socials, the character will be a Seelengut, a sheep-like creature whose name translates to "kind-hearted". Her episode will be airing on September 10th.

A seasoned intern of crime procedurals is about to whet his metaphorical beak in the supernatural when he joins NBC’s Grimm for a multi-episode arc in its second season. Frequent Bones character Michael Grant Terry is taking off his squint lab coat and joining the police force starting in Episode 8 of Grimm’s sophomore season. Interestingly, he will still be playing an intern, so he’ll know exactly how to play someone who is constantly in the shadow of his mentors, which in this case will be Nick Burkhardt, but really – who else could it be? And if Terry is following in Nick’s footsteps it’s only a matter of time before he becomes wrapped up in some mess involving a Wesen or two.
As reported by TV Guide, Terry’s multi-episode gig will see him playing Ryan Smulson, the wide-eyed and enthusiastic student just beginning his internship at the Portland Police Department.

According to TVLine, the "Mad Men" actor will appear in multiple episodes of the new 10-episode season set to stream on Netflix. Details of his role are being kept under wraps, but "Arrested Development" executive producer Ron Howard told MTV new characters would be introduced during the new season.
