I’m not much of a fan of films that are sequels but are actually prequels, this is one of those movies. This film is overly campy and much like the first film in the series, it’s poorly written. Not much more to say about this film other then it was complete and utter trash.

Last week, I had the opportunity to chat by phone for about 35 minutes with the actor Jake Gyllenhaal, 30, who will be attending the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night as a best actor (musical or comedy) nominee for his performance opposite Anne Hathaway in Edward Zwick’s edgy romantic-dramedy “Love and Other Drugs” (20th Century Fox, 11/24, R, trailer). In the film, which is largely based on Jamie Reidy’s autobiography, Gyllenhaal inhabits a classic leading man role that Cary Grant would have played if the censors had allowed films like this to be played in his day (and if Viagra had already been invented). His Jamie is a charismatic pharmaceutical salesman who wants perhaps the only woman in the world who doesn’t want him — because, he eventually discovers, she is suffering from early-onset Parkinson’s Disease and dreads the thought of becoming a burden.

Edward Zwick's adaptation of the real-life story of a drugs salesman is a sharp combination of polemic and romance
It was said of the zoologist and public intellectual Lord (Solly) Zuckerman that the spur to his considerable ambition came from his name always being at the bottom of alphabetical lists in his youth. He thus set out to be at the top of lists compiled on merit. One wonders if the American writer-director-producer Edward Zwick, who is the last name in Katz's Film Encyclopedia and next to last in Thomson's Biographical Dictionary of Film, feels the same way. Most of his films have striven to get out of the Hollywood rut and say something about American society and world events, starting with Thirtysomething, the TV series that made his name. He co-produced Shakespeare in Love and Traffic; his finest movie as director, Glory, centred on the first black regiment...

Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal come together in the frustrating Love And Other Drugs. Here's our review...
Partly based on Jamie Reidy’s 2005 non-fiction memoir Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman, Edward Zwick’s latest directorial offering Love & Other Drugs is yet another entry into the director's seemingly favoured sub-genre of ‘issue-tainment’.
Unlike Zwick’s previous attempts, however, Love & Other Drugs finds the director trying to fuse the debate (this time surrounding privatised health care and ‘big pharma’) with the genre of romantic comedy. Does it work? Well, in truth, not really.
It’s clear from the opening of the movie – set in 1996 and therefore allowing the film-makers to stack the obligatory soundtrack album with lots of rather obvious hits from that period – that the film makers are attempting to make a movie that’s very much in the vein of Jerry Maguire. To that end we’re introduced to cocky,...

Here's the international trailer for Edward Zwick's Love And Other Drugs, with the ever-busy Anne Hathaway in more adult mode in a semi-romantic comedy set in the late 1990s and based on the autobiographical Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman by Jamie Reidy.
The film finds Jake Gyllenhaal as a V***** salesman (I'm damned if this site is going to feature that word outside a comments box) who stumbles upon Parkinson's disease sufferer Hathaway on his way to bring wood to middle-life middle-America. Their one-night stand leads to the usual games of psychological chess. The film did relatively poorly after its November 24th Us release and a round of critical indifference or hostility, but perhaps the Brits will get more err excited about it on its December 29th release.

He’s become a much-loved archetype in cinematic history. The young, cocky new-kid-on-the–block who enters a profession with high hopes and ambitions only to later have a crisis of conscience or sudden epiphany about the foibles of the business world. Think Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire, Keanu Reeves in The Devil’s Advocate or Charlie Sheen as Bud Fox in Wall Street. But none of them had as much sex on screen or showed as much skin as Jake Gyllenhaal in Love and Other Drugs.

Country beauty Taylor Swift has allegedly totally fallen in love with Jake Gyllenhaal. Citing an inside source, celebrity blogger Zack Taylor reported that the "Back to December" singer, who continuously stole headlines with reports of her alleged dates with the Jamie Reidy of "Love and Other Drugs", has "never been happier".
The source claiming to be close to the 20-year-old crooner further asserted that she has found her dream guy in the "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" hunk. Gushing about how the "Mine" singer feels about the actor, the insider went on to say that "Jake is the mature, older guy she's always wanted."
Recently, Taylor has once again been spotted enjoying another coffee date with Jake. On Tuesday, November 30, the rumored couple visited the Frothy Monkey Coffeehouse in Nashville, and an eyewitness told Hollywood Life, "They very polite. It was lightning fast; they were not drawing attention to...

Jake Gyllenhaal memorised all the possible side effects of Viagra to prepare for Love And Other Drugs - and then tried to sell the sex pill to doctors.
The actor plays a womaniser who embarks on a career as a pharmaceutical representative in the film, based on the book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman, by Jamie Reidy.
Gyllenhaal read up on the little blue pill to acquaint himself with the drug, and then tested his memory by trying to impress doctors.
He tells Britain's Total Film magazine, "Viagra has a huge booklet on what it is, the side effects and all the chemical components. I would memorise these things. And we would improv them and then I would sell to the doctors when I had learnt from them."
But the cheeky star refuses to confess whether he's tried Viagra, joking, "There are some things I have to keep for myself!"...

Despite very effective scenes devoted to Parkinson’s and, separately, a fair amount of nudity, Love And Other Drugs is little more than a typical, formulaic romantic comedy. It centers partly around Viagra’s debut and so is set in the 90’s, but otherwise comes across as little different from the world we live in today a decade-plus later. But its placement in that era also allows a cavalcade of 90’s one-hit wonders, thus fulfilling the mainstream rom com requirement of a buyable soundtrack. (Though the uninspired song choices and their constant reminder that it’s the 90’s annoys to no end.) The movie is based on Jamie Reidy's memoir "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman.” In a nutshell, Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a stud muffin specializing in getting laid. He uses this talent to his advantage first as an irritating electronics salesman, then as a pharmaceutical salesman.

Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal in Love and Other Drugs
Photo: 20th Century Fox Ed Zwick's Love and Other Drugs is an imbalanced Jerry Maguire knock-off that relies heavily on a serious medical condition to gain any emotional traction with the audience. However, this wasn't my immediate response to what begins as a rather harmless feature centered on a charming Pfizer pharmaceutical sales rep that falls in love with a woman suffering from Parkinson's. It's standard stuff played by good actors and from a director whose films I've enjoyed from Glory to The Last Samurai and, yes, even Blood Diamond. However, this change of pace for Zwick just didn't work.
Loosely adapted from Jamie Reidy's "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman," a non-fiction look into the pharmaceutical business during the rise (no pun intended) of Viagra, the story centers on Jamie Randall (Jake Gyllenhaal), a Pfizer rep,...

Anne Hathaway Was Unsure About Role & 6 Other Things You Might Not Know About 'Love And Other Drugs'

After far too many inferior romantic comedies it’s exhilarating to encounter a bittersweet, romantic drama like Love and Other Drugs. With a fresh, provocative backdrop and an intriguingly vulnerable heroine, this is a sexy, adult piece of entertainment. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway sink their teeth into a pair of meaty, satisfying roles that stretch their abilities. The film is built on an unusual foundation: Jamie Reidy’s autobiographical book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman, which apparently paints a vivid picture of the high-stakes world of pharmaceutical sales. Longtime filmmaking colleagues Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, who tapped…...

Okay, so author Jamie Reidy didn't have all the sex his character does in Thanksgiving film "Love and Other Drugs." And, all right, he's not quite a dead ringer for Jake Gyllenhaal. But this, babe, is how Tinseltown makes magic.
Having Jake Gyllenhaal play you in a movie based on your book doesn’t exactly perpetuate a carefully cultivated slacker reputation. But Jamie Reidy (above, inset) now uses his trademark swagger to propel his writing instead of elude meetings in which he dealt Viagra.
Love and Other Drugs, which opens Nov. 24, is based on Reidy’s 2005 tell-all Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman (Andrews McMeel Publishing). The 20th Century Fox film, directed by Edward Zwick, stars Gyllenhaal as a roguish pharmaceutical salesman skating by on as little work as possible, and Anne Hathaway, as a patient-turned-love interest. "It’s surreal on so many levels--watching Jake Gyllenhaal as me,...

A love story? Set in the world of little blue pills? You betcha! Based on the book by Jamie Reidy (Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman)Jake Gyllenhaal is a drug rep and sells the most famous “dick drug” of all, Viagra. Upon a chance encounter with Anne Hathaway (which you see in the trailer) the 2 embark on a “hard” affair. Directed by Edward Zwick (Legends of the Fall, Last Samurai) Love & Other Drugs certainly made me laugh a few times, at least from the red band trailer. And as we all know, swearing and dick jokes make the world a better place. Gyllenhall looks really comfortable and relaxed here and Hathaway doesn’t seem half bad either. Whether or not it get’s a hard time (Sorry!) when it’s released here on December 31st, remains to be seen!

From Glory to The Last Samurai to Blood Diamond, director Edward Zwick is know for his big spectacle 'message' movies. However his first film was the David Mamet-adapted romantic comedy About Last Night. Zwick returns to his rom-com roots with Love & Other Drugs, a 90's era love story set against the world of the booming pharmaceutical drug industry. It opened this year's AFI Film Festival at the historic Grauman's Chinese, kicking off a great week of free films and panels.

'Love and Other Drugs' features Jake Gyllenhaal as a womanizing viagra salesman and Anne Hathaway as woman who is not ready for any kind of commitment. Based on Jamie Reidy's book "Hard Sell: The Evolution Of A Viagra Salesman," the film is directed by Edward Zwick and written by Edward Zwick and Charles Randolf. The romantic comedy drew mixed reactions from the pundits at HitFix when it opened the AFI fest. Drew McWeeny called it "uncommonly moving" with career-best performances yet from Hathaway and Gyllenhal. On the other hand, Gregory Ellwood thought it was just so-so, calling it "not inherently a...

Gyllenhaal and the film's director Edward Zwick said they had no idea the Oscar-nominated screen legend was battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia at the time. They learned of it after their work together.
"I think part of her sickness is what made her live her life ... and really cherish the moments she had and cherish the people she was with," said Gyllenhaal while promoting the film in New York on Sunday. "And she did when she was with us, cherish those moments, and they made us all love her."

Last night I sat in a Fox screening room packed with critics to see Edward Zwick's Love & Other Drugs. Writer-director Zwick has done what I have long wanted him to do--get into the James L. Brooks/Nancy Meyers smart comedy mode--as he did with partner Marshall Herskovitz (who adapted Jamie Reidy's book Hard Sell with Zwick and Charles Randolph) for so many great TV series, from 30 Something to Relativity. While previous Zwick efforts such as Defiance, Blood Diamond and The Last Samurai have tended toward high-minded commercial dramas packed with action, Love & Other Drugs is a Jake Gyllenhaal-Anne Hathaway romantic comedy with dramatic overtones--and plenty of artfully constructed sex and nudity. The movie is very commercial and should please young audiences more than ...

This new Love & Other Drugs poster makes us want to do bad, bad things to Jake Gyllenhaal. Well, we’ve always wanted to do bad, bad things to Jake G. but this poster ups the ante on our Gyllenhormones. Is he going to spend the whole movie (un)clothed like that? ‘Cause if he is please lead us to the early line - we’re gonna be camping for tickets. We also totally love the fact that this movie is based on a memoir called “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman” written by Jamie Reidy. ‘Cause that way, when the movie gets too sappy, which it’s going to, it’ll give us a giggle. It’s a twist (isn’t it always) on the boy meet girl-they fall in love plot. Jakey’s a ladykiller pharmaceutical sales dude. Who meets his match in the sexy, loopy Anne Hathaway.

A great cast has been assembled for Edward Zwick’s new movie Love And Other Drugs based on non fiction book Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman written by Jamie Reidy.
Starring Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal, Hank Azaria, Oliver Platt and Garbriel Macht, this comedy romance opens in the Us around November time, but we Brits won’t see it until 14th February, 2011.
It certainly appears to be a change of pace for both the leads. Gyllenhaal was Prince Dastan in Prince of Persia and Hathaway was a delight as a very odd White Queen in Alice in Wonderland. They’re back from fantasy lands to offer contemporary characters in a contemporary setting. Could be a winner!
So in the meantime, here’s the new international trailer and a couple of stills to keep you occupied!

Love and Other Drugs is the sort of movie that epitomizes being able to go either way. Dustin posted the first trailer on Monday. Allow me to refresh your memory with regard to the plot summary:
Maggie (Hathaway) is an alluring free spirit who won't let anyone - or anything - tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. Maggie and Jamie's evolving relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love.
Yuck. That summary sounds like script #14 fresh from the generic light romantic comedy factory. But tell me you wouldn't see that if it headlined George Clooney and Vera Farminga. When he's not in Persia and she's not brideswarring, Gyllenhaal and Hathaway are two of the more...

Writer/director Edward Zwick has, in the more recent years of his career, captured the market on epic, slightly naval-gazing/worthy dramas like The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond and Defiance. But back in the day, he was a writer/producer on such shows as Thirtysomething and Once & Again, and based on the trailer, his latest cinematic outing, Love & Other Drugs, seems to hew closer to the playful spirit of his TV work than those films.Working from Jamie Reidy’s comic memoir Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman, Zwick presents a tale of Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Maggie (Anne Hathaway), who couldn’t be more different yet make a connection.Jamie’s a smug, cocky drugs rep working around the time that Viagra was unleashed upon the world. He’s charming and winning with the ladies. But then he meets Maggie, a free sprit who sees right through his smarm.

We just caught wind of this really awesome trailer of a thriller starring Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks and Liam Neeson, called The Next Three Days. It’s a film that hits on the vein of movies we saw last year, like Taken and Law Abiding Citizen, that deals on family loss, justice and revenge.
The film revolves around John Brennan (Crowe) until his wife, Lara (Banks), is arrested for a gruesome murder she says she didn’t commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son and teaching at college, while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence. With the rejection of their final appeal, Lara becomes suicidal and John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison. Refusing to be deterred by impossible odds or his own inexperience, John devises an elaborate...
