- Operatic tenor.
- He did his National Service with the Army Catering Corps, where he developed excellent culinary skills.
- He had a powerful voice, but sometimes struggled with memorizing his lines. During one performance of "Siegfried" at the English National Opera, the front-row audience could hear frequent whispers from the prompter's box. As the applause thundered at the end of the opera, Remedios picked up one of the flowers that had been thrown on stage, and walked over to the box to present it to the unseen prompter. He then helped the prompter up onto the stage to take a well-earned bow.
- His grandfather was a Spanish mariner who had settled in Liverpool; his father joined the merchant navy and later cleaned railway cars. His Irish mother held menial jobs - waitressing in a Chinese restaurant, working in a grocer's - to pay for her sons' singing lessons. Alberto sang in the choir at St Saviour's Church. His vocal talent was noticed, and his parents were urged to take him to a well-known local teacher. He left school at 15, and played football semi-professionally. He got a job at a shipyard on Merseyside, often singing the Anvil Chorus for his co-workers. He continued to take singing lessons.
- He was appointed CBE in 1981.
