Not sure if Cavalry Media needs someone to come to the rescue, but the shaky shingle may now see its whole house of alleged cards come tumbling down.
Already trampled by financial ills, big-name exits and lawsuits related to the fatal 2021 shooting on Alec Baldwin’s Rust, the company run by Keegan Rosenberger and Ishan Sakena now faces a dirty-laundry lawsuit from former founder Dana Brunetti.
A year and change after Brunetti, the House of Cards executive producer and ex-Cavalry chief content officer, headed out the door to pursue his own projects (as they always say), he is now suing the company for more than $1 million in “wrongfully” withheld wages and more. Or, as the lawsuit quotes Brunetti declaring to CEO Rosenberger in a tense digital November 13, 2022 exchange in which he learned he wasn’t going to get paid his $750,000-per-year salary: “I’m not going to be rolled over and squeezed.

Actor Michael Shannon raged against low production budgets when asked about the recent charges facing Alec Baldwin over the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Hutchins was killed in October 2021 after a prop gun held by Baldwin discharged a real bullet, injuring director Joel Souza before fatally wounding Hutchins.
Last week, it was announced that Baldwin and the film’s armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed would each be charged with involuntary manslaughter, while first assistant director David Halls has agreed to plead guilty to the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon.
In an interview with The Chicago Tribune, Shannon spoke about the case in light of his directorial debut Eric Larue, which deals with the aftermath of a school shooting.
“It’s not a sloppy procedure, in my experience. It’s very, very meticulous,” Shannon said about gun handling procedures on movie sets.

It’s one of the darkest tales in Hollywood memory. A group of producers — a few whose track records included opaque financing, withholding payments and dangerous on-set working conditions — mount a Western movie on which their star and fellow producer accidentally shoots to death the cinematographer midway through filming. We’ve learned he will soon be charged with involuntary manslaughter, alongside the inexperienced and overwhelmed young armorer they hired to mind the guns (both have indicated they will contest the charges). Meanwhile, the assistant director, who’d been subject to prior safety and other workplace complaints, including on one of the producers’ previous projects, signs a plea agreement for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon.

A year after Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set of Rust, the producers, still facing civil litigation and under a cloud of potential criminal liability, are looking to finish the film in the next few months. Key to this gambit is a private settlement with Hutchins’ estate, announced Oct. 5, which is pending court approval. The plan both ends the wrongful death action brought by Hutchins’ family on Feb. 15 and makes her widower, Matthew, an executive producer on the movie.

Alec Baldwin’s attorneys argued in a filing on Monday that a lawsuit stemming from the “Rust” shooting in October should be thrown out because the shooting was a workplace accident.
The filing marks the first time that Baldwin’s lawyers have laid out a legal argument for why he is not responsible in the Oct. 21 incident, which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza. The Santa Fe County (N.M.) Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate, and no criminal charges have been filed.
The filing comes in response to a suit brought by Mamie Mitchell, the film’s script supervisor, against Baldwin and other producers and crew members on Nov. 17. Mitchell was standing just a few feet away from Baldwin when he fired the gun and was the first to call 911. She alleges that she suffered pain and ringing in her ears as well as emotional injuries.

The script supervisor on “Rust” filed a lawsuit against star Alec Baldwin and the film’s producers on Wednesday, saying she suffered both “physical and emotional” injuries when Baldwin shot the film’s cinematographer while preparing for a scene.
Mamie Mitchell filed the suit in the Los Angeles Superior Court and is represented by attorney Gloria Allred. In the complaint, she says she was standing just four feet from Baldwin when the gun went off.

Deadline has confirmed that Matthew Hutchins, the husband of late Rust Dp Halyna Hutchins, has hired L.A.-based firm Panish Shea Boyle Ravipudi, which specializes in personal injury and wrongful death litigation, with partner Brian Panish acting as lead counsel.
A rep for the firm would not comment on Matthew Hutchins’ legal plans are going forward against the production, however, it would not be shocking if a wrongful death suit is filed.
Halyna Hutchins was shot by a prop gun discharged by Alec Baldwin on the Bonanza Creek Ranch set of Rust on Oct. 21, outside Santa Fe, Nm. Hutchins in addition to her husband is survived by her 9-year-old son, Andros.
The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate how a live round wound up in what was called a “cold gun” by the film’s First Assistant Director David Halls, who handed it off to Baldwin for a quick-draw scene.

As the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department continues to probe the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Alec Baldwin Western indie Rust last week, the question being asked is who is financially on the line for this debacle that could spur civil lawsuits preceding or following potential police indictments.
A deeper look reveals a loose assemblage of producers and financiers who oversaw a troubled production that allegedly cut a number of corners.
It’s often said that success in Hollywood has many fathers, and failures has many orphans. Well, already, two of the Rust EPs are wiping their hands clean of the situation.
Speaking on behalf of the now shuttered production, Allen Cheney made it known in a statement provided to the press Wednesday that he, along with Emily Salveson and her Streamline Global finance company, “received Executive Producer credit on the film Rust having...

In 2016, Kelly Grimsley was vacationing in Los Angeles when she was invited to lunch with a family friend. The lunch turned out to be a pitch meeting for an investment in an independent film, and Grimsley ended up putting in $250,000 to get it made.
Grimsley would later sue the producers — Ryan Smith and Allen Cheney — claiming they had improperly embezzled $40,000, some of which went to pay a personal credit card bill and health insurance premiums.
The suit portrays Smith, 36, and Cheney, 33, as being in well over their heads, ultimately having to be rescued by Cheney’s father, the CEO of a local bank. The complaint describes the pair as “fledgling film producers with virtually no creative or business achievements in the film industry.”

Talk about meta. Walt Disney (the studio) is making a movie about Walt Disney (the person) and his journey to build Disneyland (the California theme park).
David Gordon Green (“Halloween Kills”) is directing the still-untitled film, which will premiere on Disney Plus. Evan Spiliotopoulos, whose credits include Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and “Snow White and the Huntsmen,” is writing the screenplay.
Dubbed “The Happiest Place on Earth,” the Anaheim-based Disneyland opened during the summer of 1955. Though theme parks were later built in Florida, Paris and other parts of the world, the California adventure is Disney’s only theme park constructed under the direct supervision of the man whose name inspired the entertainment destination.
Disney’s theme parks have been a rich source of material for the studio, with “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The Haunted Mansion” and “The Jungle Cruise” among the attractions that inspired major motion pictures. Not...

Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer’s comedy will not be moving forward at ABC and is being shopped elsewhere. The straight-to-series order, which also had Alec Mapa attached to star, was scrapped after network executives saw the completed pilot episode, directed by James Burrows. ABC had been lining up the half-hour series for the 2021-22 season.
Per the logline, the untitled multi-camera series revolves around three men who were roommates in their 20s until their warring egos drove them apart. Now, the trio is reuniting decades later for one more run at the lives they’ve always wanted.
The series will mark Baldwin’s first major broadcast role since “30 Rock.” Grammer, most known for his roles in “Frasier” and “Cheers,” had most recently appeared in an episode of the CBS comedy “Carol’s Second Act,” after starring in the 2019 Fox legal drama “Proven Innocent,” which was canceled after only a single season.

Exclusive: ABC has passed on the untitled Alec Baldwin/Kelsey Grammer multi-camera comedy. The decision was made after the network’s executives saw the finished pilot episode.
The project, starring Baldwin, Grammer and Alec Mapa, had a straight-to-series order. The studio behind the comedy, 20th Television, is now shopping the pilot, written by Modern Family’s Chris Lloyd and Vali Chandrasekaran and directed by James Burrows, to other networks and streamers.
The high-profile comedy landed at ABC in November, a couple of weeks before the regime change at the network, with Hulu’s Craig Erwich taking over programming at ABC and the network’s Karey Burke becoming head of 20th TV. There have been multiple scripts from top auspices with big commitments bought under Burke that got a pass from ABC’s new regime this season.

Money—investing, personal finance, and business decisions—is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, one’s own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In 19 short stories, Housel explores the strange ways people think about money and the psychology driving people’s decisions that often contradict basic financial fundamentals.

Lionel Richie and Walt Disney Studios have teamed up to develop a movie based on the songs from the music legend, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
With a working title of All Night Long, after his 1983 No. 1 hit, the project sees Richie producing with his manager Bruce Eskowitz as well as Dana Brunetti (Fifty Shades of Grey, Captain Phillips) and Matt DelPiano, who will produce through their banner, Cavalry Media.
Pete Chiarelli, who worked on Crazy Rich Asians and Now You See Me 2, is writing the original script. Disney picked up the project as a pitch earlier this year.

“Free Solo” filmmakers Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi have become attached to direct a movie about the 2018 rescue of the Wild Boar boys soccer team from a cave in Thailand for Universal and Cavalry Media.
“Midway” screenwriter Wes Tooke is writing the screenplay about the 12 members of the team and their assistant coach, who became trapped 1,000 meters underground by monsoon rains flooding the Tham Luang cave and blocking their way out. Efforts to locate the group were hampered by rising water levels and strong currents. More than two weeks passed before all 13 of those trapped were rescued. The rescue effort involved more than 100 divers, representatives from about 100 government agencies, 900 police officers, and 2,000 soldiers
Dana Brunetti and Matt DelPiano are producing under their Cavalry Media banner. Michael De Luca is executive producing.

Exclusive: I hear that Oscar-winning Free Solo filmmakers Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi have become attached to direct Universal and Cavalry Media’s feature film about the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in Thailand.
Wes Tooke, the Midway screenwriter and scribe of USA Network’s Colony, is currently writing the screenplay about the Wild Boar boys soccer team, aged 11-16, who with their coach became trapped 1,000 meters below the surface by monsoon rains. They were ultimately rescued over the course of three days from July 8-10, 2018. The risks of the harrowing rescue were underscored July 6, when a retired Thai Navy Seal died in an underwater passage, followed by three SEALs who were hospitalized after their oxygen tanks ran low.
