Ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls; I’m looking for some audience participation on this one.
The topic at hand is inanimate objects in movies that were given human names.
I’ve seen a couple of examples in some movies I’ve watched recently and it got me thinking about others, but it was fairly tasking – it’s not a subject I’m overly familiar with (is anyone?). I tried to avoid things like plants (Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors, since plants grow and that plant in particular came fully alive) and things like the Transformers and Herbie which, whilst they are vehicles, also have a life of their own. I’ve also opted not to included toys who are named characters, such as Woody and Buzz Lightyear etc.
I also considered items like Hellboy’s guns which, in his movies, were called ‘The Good Samaritan’ and ‘Big Baby’. They are human-esq names,...

Jack Johnson is really your man: Fresh off of saving Bonnaroo, he's surging forward with a charming new video for "I Got You," filmed with a buddy on a bright Hawaiian day.
Emmett Malloy directed the clip, which is debuting exclusively on HuffPost Entertainment. He's the man behind multiple Johnson projects, as well as videos and documentaries for Oasis, Blink 182, Metallica, Ben Harper and Lit. In the "I Got You" visuals, Johnson is seen working through his song on public transit, in fields and even while skateboarding (tiny vinyl board, natch).
"My friend Emmett Malloy directed this video with me," Johnson told HuffPost Entertainment. "We shot it on an old wind up 16mm camera, that we used to shoot our surf films on. We drove around Oahu and made it up as we went. It was a fun day and hopefully that translates in the video."

Enjoying herself at the 2013 Bonnaroo Music Festival, Hayden Panettiere posed for a silly photo earlier this week.
The “Nashville” hottie made a funny face and strapped an oversized bra across her chest along with the hashtag #wishfulthinking.
And it seems Hayden is making friends all over the festival, as she shared a photo with a couple of Tennessee police officers with the caption, “Gotta love the Tn cops!”
Ms. Panettiere and thousands of other music fans enjoyed performances by the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Foals, Jack Johnson, and The Lumineers.

Fresh off his headlining gig at Bonnaroo, where he stepped in for Mumford & Sons, Jack Johnson has announced a fall tour. If he weren’t already the good guy after filling infor M&S, who dropped out due to Ted Dwane’s emergency surgery, Johnson will earn even more karma points with the tour because he is donating 100% of the profits to charity (as he has since 2008). The outing, which is in support of his sixth studio album, “From Here To Now To You,” out Sept. 17, starts in Europe Sept. 5 and kicks off the U.S. portion Sept. 22 in...

It was truly a surprise to see the number of new songs that came out this week by old familiar acts, such as Nine Inch Nails, Goo Goo Dolls, and Jimmy Eat World. Classic metal band Black Sabbath returned with their new album 13, and Jack Johnson brought his familiar sound back to the airwaves. Comedy act, The Lonely Island, also returned with a new album of their own. There were numerous new releases with some disappointments and some surprises.
Rounding out the week’s new releases include a new single by electronic artist Kaskade, a new single from the alternative duo The Civil Wars, a new album from metal act Black Veil Brides, a new single from alternative group Grouplove, and another Big Time Rush album that sounds the same as every other one they have done (I usually don’t start reviewing until the next page, but I could...

Jack Johnson is prepping the release of new album "From Here to Now to You" and has unveiled breezy new single "I Got You" ahead of time. The track is exactly what fans have come to expect from Johnson, with sunny, acoustic glories and whistling, the promise of close-knit love in an Spf 30 sound. "From Here to Now to You" will be out on Sept. 17, and is the Hawaiian-surfer-producer-songwriter's first since 2010's "To the Sea." It was recorded at Johnson's Mango Tree Studio and produced by Mario Caldato, Jr., who helmed 2005's "In Between Dreams." Johnson has scant few...

Happy Endings has had a troubled (to say the least) Season Three, as mediocre ratings and bizarre timeslot shifts (Sundays at 10 Pm. Really?) have put Season Four into much doubt. ABC is giving the show one more chance, if you can call it that, by throwing it into the wasteland of Friday night, where it will air double episodes at 9 Pm Et starting tomorrow night.
As we wait to see if the show will join the "Gone Too Soon" list, let's take a look back at some of the most memorable moments of Season Three from our favorite primetime cub Max.
Max and Brad pretend to be a gay couple to get free stuff at the Wedding Expo. Until Max gets the "Gay Turn Around."
"F*ck You & F*ck You & F*ck You & F*ck You & F*ck You"
From the same episode, Max lets his revenge guard down to celebrate with Penny.

Ken Burns and Tom Hanks are teaming up for an HBO biopic miniseries about legendary boxer Jack Johnson, the first black man to be the world heavyweight champion. Ides of March screenwriter Beau Willimon is writing the screenplay, with Hanks and Burns producing, and Burns directing, Deadline reports. Burns previously directed a Johnson documentary miniseries, Unforgivable Blackness, which aired on PBS in 2005. This new miniseries will be in four to six installments, because the marriage of meticulous historical accuracy, intense sports drama, and the saga of American racism takes time.

Chicago – It was Sarah Burns, the daughter of legendary documentarian Ken Burns, that brought the passion for her first project with her famous father, along with husband and co-director David McMahon. “The Central Park Five” also features Raymond Santana, one of “five” who were wrongly accused in the famous New York City trial. They were all here in October at the Chicago International Film Festival.
The documentary is about a severe miscarriage of justice. In New York City on April 19th, 1989, a female jogger was sexually assaulted in Central Park. Five men of color – Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Kharey Wise and Yusef Salaam – merely boys at the time, were in proximity of the incident and arrested for the crime. Despite no evidence that they committed the assault, confessions were coerced and used against them at a hastily assembled and highly publicized trial. As far as celeb attendance goes, the DNC tends to be where it’s at — Hollywood does have a reputation to live up to, after all. But 2012 is not 2008 and while the Dems have certainly attracted a few ounces of star power to the convention, it’s not going to be the first-class lounge/Oscar backstage feeling it was four years ago, when the Cold War Kids opened a Shepard Fairey art exhibit and Google co-hosted a party with Vanity Fair. While the Rnc had Clint Eastwood and his now even-more-famous sidekick — the chair — the DNC boasts parties with Will.

In Big Easy Express, director Emmett Malloy documents a tour by three cult-favorite indie-folk bands: Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Mumford & Sons. But the free-wheeling travelogue that develops is equal parts itinerant jam, extended family picnic, and traveling carnival, with Malloy and his crew as the cinematic roustabouts getting it all down for posterity. The film follows the three bands from Oakland to New Orleans, giving us a glimpse not only of their concerts but of their camaraderie as they live and travel on a train together, sharing songs, time, and experiences, and ultimately becoming more like a troupe of old-time troubadours than a batch of independent acts.
The main precedent for Big Easy Express is the 2003 documentary Festival Express, about a similar 1970 train tour featuring The Band, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and others. Big Easy Express feels like the 21st century torch-carrier...

Aleks Josh was warned to change his song on 'The Voice' this week. The singer left the competition last night (20.05.12) and admitted producers had advised him against singing Jack Johnson's 'Better Together' - which was slammed by the coaches as ''boring'' - but his only regret is not choosing his own tracks earlier in the series. He said: ''If I had my time again, I'd change the two first performances. The BBC wanted me to sing a different song but I put my foot down and said I wanted to do it. ''One of the producers said, 'I don't think you should...

Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson
Banana Pancakes is one of my all time favorite songs. It gets me so in the mood to ride bikes or take a walk to breakfast on a beautiful sunny day. Jack Johnson has the best beachy vibe on all of his albums. His acoustic version of Better Together is also a great bonfire song.
Chariot by Gavin Degraw
Whenever I hear Chariot it takes me right back to the summer road trips to San Diego I would take to compete in horse shows. The piano in this song is really pretty and I love the rawness of [link...

If you'd like Jack Johnson better if he weren't such a negative nellie, or if Colbie Caillat would be up your alley if it weren't for her gangsta existential angst, then Jason Mraz's "Love Is a Four-Letter Word" is the unremittingly sunny, determinedly stress-free album for you. Easy listening doesn't get any easier than Mraz's fourth album. The sprightlier Mraz of the mid-2000s has been kidnapped and replaced by a guy who has no use for pop-rap vocal rhythms or silly wordplay. Mraz was never exactly hard-boiled, even back in the days when...

After taking much of last summer off to chill and enjoy their 20th anniversary, the members of Dave Matthews Band will be bringing the mellow back this year with a North American tour. Before the band hits the road, however, fans can get a little something new from Dave and similarly mellow bud Jack Johnson with the Jack John And Friends–Best Of Kokua Festival compilation, which is slated for release on April 17 and features live tracks culled from the festival’s six-year history. Proceeds will benefit Johnson’s Kokua Foundation. In addition, a new Dmb studio album is ...

Jack Johnson is a good person, everybody, and to remind us all of that the singer-songwriter has announced the release of a new charity-driven live album called "Jack Johnson and Friends - Best of Kokua Festival", a title that actually just made me fall asleep for five minutes. But what does that matter when the very future of our planet is at stake? The 13 tracks that make up the LP have been culled from six years of performances featured at the Hawaii-based musician's long-running Kokua Festival, which serves to raise funds for the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, a non-profit started by Johnson...

With The Messenger and Rampart, director Oren Moverman has kept his focus on small, independent character studies. According to a new report at The Playlist, he may expand his scope by a large margin with a new adaptation. Moverman has confirmed he is attached to Joe Lansdale‘s novel The Big Blow, a film that is admittedly a ”tough” one to make.
Currently at Ridley and Tony’s company, Moverman described the film about racism set in 1900, Galveston, Texas as “really powerful and extreme.” He added, “there’s a hurricane that comes in, there’s boxing, there’s a Jack Johnson-type character, there’s just a lot going on. Now we just need the movie to get made, which hopefully we will. I’m attached to direct, Ridley’s the producer.”
Check out an expanded synopsis below.
Boxer Jack McBride arrives in Galveston in September 1900 with mayhem on his mind.

President Obama's campaigners have always had their finger on the pulse of America's young people. Just check out that "wish list" of celebrities they hoped would publicly endorse and campaign on behalf of the Potus; all of the cool kids are there, including Jay-z, Vampire Weekend, Janelle Monáe, Neil Patrick Harris, Anne Hathaway, Jack Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Mila Kunis, Blake Lively, Lea Michele, Sarah Jessica Parker, the Roots, Wilco and Arcade Fire, among many others.
(We secretly suspect Obama's hot young speechwriter Jon Favreau had something to do with the list. We know the president likes himself some Jay-z and Wilco, but Favs strikes us more the Vampire Weekend/Arcade Fire/Jack Johnson type. Would you agree?)
So it should come as no surprise that they're taking one of Obama's most viral moments and transforming it into an even bigger boon to the campaign. Recently, the president decided...

The first time Barack Obama ran for president, he had help from a wide range of celebrities that included Ben Affleck, Jamie Foxx, 50 Cent, Oprah Winfrey and director Michael Moore.
This time, according to a "wish list" of celebrity endorsers circulated to a group of campaign donors that was reportedly obtained by The Tennessean newspaper, a lot of the same names are in the mix (Jay-z, John Legend, Alicia Keys), along with other big-name acts such as Vampire Weekend, Janelle Monáe and Maroon 5's Adam Levine.
Though most of the focus has been on the cutthroat battle among the Republicans vying for the Gop presidential nomination, as MTV's Power of 12 campaign has chronicled, Obama is facing an uphill battle for a second term, and with...

Chris Rene showed off the many sides of his personality during Season 1 of The X Factor: Crowd-pleasing urban artist, sensitive acoustic troubador, and optimistic young dad struggling to overcome a drug addiction. TVLine caught up with the third-place finisher to talk about his memorable audition, his fight to perform a second original track during the season, and a live-performance snafu you may or may not have caught.

Wear Your Music, the creators of the Original Artist Bracelet, succeeded in donating over 60,000 dollars to charity in 2011. The Original Artist Bracelet is custom-made from the intertwined guitar strings of music icons with profits donated to individual musicians’ charities of choice.
Over 150 artists including modern favorites Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Jack Johnson, classic legends like Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend and Gregg Allman and country music icons like Dolly Parton and Tim McGraw are donating their strings to create The Original Artist Bracelets.
“We created this company in 2007 when we noticed that musicians were just tossing away their used guitar strings,” explains Hannah Garrison, Co-Founder of Wear Your Music. “We wanted to use these guitar strings to make a difference by recycling a piece of rock memorabilia to create bracelets for fans. Note: The following contains spoilers if you have not seen Season 2, Episode 6 of "Teen Mom 2," entitled "Lean on Me."
Well friends, Santa has left the building.
Last week's Christmas episode found our gals doing relatively well ... except Jenelle, who is always about as happy as the twist-y possessed lady from "The Devil Inside" commercials.
But lest we begin to feel any semblance of happiness, the contents of diapers hit the fan during this double episode -- and we're reminded, once more, that all true "Teen Mom 2" fans are masochists.
Jenelle
Update: Since this episode of "Teen Mom 2" aired, it was reported that Jenelle was arrested on Tues., Jan. 10, for allegedly making harassing phone calls and threatening an unidentified person.
Teen monster Jenelle gets the text most girls dream about when they're dating deadbeat guys:
"Hey baby, just got bailed out of jail by my cousin! Let's meet up! I miss you.

Nearly 10 years after that iconic kiss with an inverted Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst will put her topsy-turvy lip-locking skills to use once again for the upcoming sci-fi romance, Upside Down. (Sorry if you were expecting something else, Jack Johnson fans.)
The trailer for the film — which has been in the works since 2009 — comes courtesy of French distributor Studio 37 and features Dunst and Jim Sturgess as star/vertically-crossed lovers for the movie that should inevitably draw comparisons to Inception, Romeo and Juliet, and — to the roughly 72 people that saw it — Another Earth. (The actress described the project to EW as “A fantasy love story,...

Chris Rene on "X Factor"
Photo: Fox
Nicole Scherzinger coined the term "Krajcik Magic" on Wednesday's (December 7) "X Factor," but it was Chris Rene who worked his mojo the hardest, arguably winning the night with his show-closing original, "Where Do We Go From Here."
Rene's performance finished out a night that saw the top five contestants performing two songs apiece: one dance hit and one song of each contestant's choosing.
The episode's drama (because what would "The X Factor" be without a little drama?) came from an "error in communication" that saw the contestants having to switch up their final songs with only 24 hours' notice. How would they perform under the pressure? Would they remember their lyrics? And what kind of crazy hyperbole would Paula Abdul heap upon the contestants?
Turns out they all handled the twist pretty well,...

New York — The kids are all right – at least in the music industry.
Take Justin Bieber: He's 17, has released three platinum efforts, earned Grammy nominations, released a top-selling movie and has sold out arenas around the world, putting him in the elite echelon of pop superstars.
But Bieber isn't the only young singer blazing the charts and outdoing his elders. Scotty McCreery was crowned "American Idol" champion this year and last month, the now 18-year-old became the youngest male to have his debut album open at No. 1 on Billboard's 200 albums chart.
Eleven-year-old Jackie Evancho has sold more than 1.5 million copies of her Christmas Ep and her debut album, and has another Christmas project on the way; Willow Smith had grown people dancing in the clubs with her song "Whip My Hair"; and even 14-year-old Rebecca Black, though heavily ridiculed, had a viral hit with her song and music video "Friday.

Cody Simpson, the young Australian pop singer who is this week's MTV Push Artist, used to be just like any normal kid. He went to school, was on the swim team and enjoyed life in Australia. Fast-forward two years and the young teen heartthrob was discovered on YouTube, hooked up with Flo Rida for his first single, "iYiYi," just released his second Ep, Coast to Coast, and is now putting the finishing touches on his debut album. Not too bad for a 14-year-old.
Even though people have already begun to compare the teenager to another young star, Justin Bieber, Simpson says his sound is all his own ... with maybe some of his favorite artists thrown in.
