It's hard to think of a movie less suitable for Valentine's Day than "The Silence of the Lambs."
Yet that's the day the unforgettable thriller debuted 25 years ago, on February 14, 1991. The creepy, gory adaptation of Thomas Harris's bestseller was an enormous hit, made an enduring pop culture figure of sophisticated flesh-eater Hannibal Lecter, transformed Anthony Hopkins into a star, and became only the third (and so far, the last) movie to win the top five Oscars -- Best Picture, Director, Actress, Actor, and Screenplay.
As many times as you've seen Hopkins's Lecter casually mention how well human liver goes with fava beans and a nice Chianti, there's still much you may not know about "Silence." Quid pro quo -- we'll reveal the movie's secrets, if you read on.
1. Hopkins wasn't the first actor to play Hannibal Lecter; that honor went to Brian Cox (above), in Michael Mann's 1986 "Manhunter,...

Aerosmith's 15th album – their first in almost a decade – also features guest spots from Johnny Depp and country singer Carrie Underwood
Aerosmith's first album in more than eight years will feature Julian Lennon, Johnny Depp and country singer Carrie Underwood. Music From Another Dimension, due in November, also includes a cover of the Temptations' 1975 single Shakey Ground.
"We can be the best Aerosmith cover band out there, [but] I was getting tired of it," said guitarist Joe Perry in an interview with Rolling Stone. Although Aerosmith have scarcely stopped touring since 2004's Honkin' on Bobo, the lack of new material had begun to cause friction within the band. "Everyone wants to hear the same Dream Ons and Walk This Ways, but that's not what I had in mind," Perry said. "I'm really glad to have this record."

Los Angeles -- Aerosmith has reunited with Jack Douglas, who produced the band's key 1970s albums, and quietly recorded a new studio album even as its lead singer traded jokes with Jennifer Lopez on "American Idol."
Steven Tyler said Aerosmith was finishing two final songs for the as-yet-untitled album, its first since 2004's "Honkin' on Bobo," and that he expected it to be released in about three months.
Joined Wednesday by Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer at a Los Angeles mall, Tyler revealed three track titles: "Legendary Child," `'Beautiful" and "Out Go the Lights." Earlier in the week, the band announced that its 18-stop Us "Global Warming Tour" begins June 16 in Minneapolis.
"We will not let you down," Tyler told reporters and cheering fans.

As if guitarist Joe Perry's surprise "Happy Birthday" serenade to singer and judge Steven Tyler on "American Idol" last week weren't proof enough that all is good in Aerosmith land, on Wednesday, the veteran rockers confirmed they're releasing their long-awaited studio album this summer.
They didn't reveal the title of the album, their first featuring new material since 2001's Just Push Play, but singer Tyler told Reuters that after a few years of turmoil and tension things are (relatively) back to normal.
"The camaraderie's there, there's some songs that are new rock, and old rock and middle-of-the-road rock, and blues, piano," he said. "Joe Perry singing a couple of songs, I'm playing the drums, Joey sings, just all kinds of stuff." Tyler, 64, added that they have re-teamed...

Aerosmith will get back in the saddle again this summer with a new tour and the band’s first new studio album since 2004’s “Honkin’ on Bobo.” At a press conference held Wednesday at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton (Brad Whitford is on tour with Experience Hendrix) revealed the new album will come out in a few months. The still-untitled project is co-produced by Jack Douglas, who produced such legendary albums as 1975’s “Toys in the Attic,” and 1976’s “Rocks; Tyler, and Marti Frederiksen. Aerosmith have revealed that there will be a "vintage sound" to their new album. The band are currently recording their 14th studio LP with producer Jack Douglas. It will be their first since 2004's Honkin' on a Bobo. Frontman Steven Tyler told Rolling Stone: "We've been in the studio for the last month. We're going to have a vintage sound, 'cause we're going to tape and a lot of good things like that. ''We're keeping tracks lean, not a lot of overdubs, and like I said, we're using Jack to his fullest. So you're going to hear some stuff where you might (more)...

The Bad Boys from Boston will be back in the studio soon.
Jack Douglas, producer for four Aerosmith albums including "Toys in the Attic" and "Draw the Line," tells Ultimate-Guitar.com the band will soon begin work on their first studio album since 2004's "Honkin' on Bobo." And he'll be there with them.
Douglas says, "The new album should be out around May 2012. I know that's a long wait, but after the South American tour and Japan in October, November and December, we will just get back to work on it in mid-January."
As far as what the album will offer, Douglas says the band will go old school.
"This album will be raw, nasty, tough rock with a good deal of the old Aerosmith 'tongue in cheek,'" he adds.
Internal battles have plagued the band in recent days. In late 2009, Steven Tyler even quit the group. At the time,...

Aerosmith's 15th studio album will be released around May 2012, according to their producer Jack Douglas. Douglas joined the band led by American Idol judge Steven Tyler in the studios in July and promised a lot of the band's classic "tongue in cheek" style. The producer has now provided fans with an update of recording sessions, according to Blabbermouth, and has hinted at a "dirty and raw" album. "The new album should be out around May 2012," wrote Douglas. (more)...

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has confirmed that the group will begin recording their 15th studio album in July. Increased tension within Aerosmith over singer Steven Tyler's decision to join American Idol as a judge put the band's future in doubt earlier this year, but Perry insisted in May that he's put aside any past animosity. The guitarist has now taken to his official Twitter page to announce that Aerosmith have committed to begin recording sessions next month, writing: "Whole band has plans to go into the studio with [producer] Jack Douglas second week of July to work on new Aero CD. (sic)" Douglas previously helmed Aerosmith's Get Your Wings, Toys (more)...

Cher and Christina Aguilera co-star in a gruesome sub-Cabaret musical. As a wide-eyed smalltown girl from Iowa, Aguilera resembles a velociraptor pretending to be Bambi, says Peter Bradshaw
What good is sitting alone in your room? I'll tell you: it means you don't have to go out and watch this sub-Cabaret film. Sitting alone in your room, looking at the peeling wallpaper, and listening to your whirring microwave prepare a lasagne for one, might be a downer. But not as much of a downer as watching Christina Aguilera pretend to be a wide-eyed smalltown girl from Iowa – like a velociraptor pretending to be Bambi – or watching Cher break into a cold sweat with the effort of moving her face. After a couple of hours of this, I felt like going back alone to my room, and experimentally testing the strength of a noose I had attached to the light fitting.

This year, for John Lennon's 70th birthday, all eight of his solo studio albums are being remastered and re-released. Along with those classics like "Double Fantasy," "Imagine" and "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band," are the newly made "Power To The People: The Hits" (in two editions) and a 4Cd set of themed discs titled "Gimme Some Truth."
"Double Fantasy" will be newly remixed in a 'Stripped Down' version, produced by Yoko Ono and Jack Douglas, Lennon's original co-producers. The new stripped down version of the album comes paired with Lennon's original mix, remastered.
Suck on it Chapman, you didn't really kill Lennon, you killed yourself, you chinless tosser. Lennon's murderer was just denied parole for the 6th time in a row, just yesterday. One letter was written on his behalf (yes there is another sociopath among us) against 75 written to condemn him. And while he wallows in psychotic obscurity behind bars,...

The re-release of John Lennon's "Double Fantasy" album was remastered at the same studio the late Beatle was working in on the night he died. Producer Jack Douglas and his engineer had to rework the album at a Sony studio in New York, which is housed at the site of the former Record Plant.
Lennon was returning home from a session at the Record Plant in December 1980 when he was gunned down by Mark Chapman. Douglas tells Britain's Mojo magazine, "They said to me, 'The room you are going to work in is rumored to be where you worked with John the night he was murdered'."
"So I started the album in the exact same place where I finished it... I walked him down to the elevator and said goodnight and 20 minutes later he was gone. I had to walk back into the same room and start listening to his voice.

Don't have the time or effort to to spend two hours with screaming teens to watch The Twilight Saga: New Moon at your local multiplex? Jack Douglas has seen the film, and has created an abbreviated version (just over one minute to be exact) so that you don't have to suffer and endure a film in which, according to Jack, literally nothing happens. Jack writes: Now the movie itself is very pretty, the acting's fine, the soundtrack didn't piss me off, and the special effects are convincing. However, they don't distract me from the fact that the plot doesn't exist. Watch the one minute version of New Moon after the jump, followed by Jack's recap of the non existant plot of the film. Here is Jack's recap of the plot points for Twilight: New Moon: Edward leaves Bella after Nothing Happens at a party. Bella spends a good third...
