New Delhi, May 24 (Ians) In a startling revelation, a team of scientists has uncovered the unique molecular make-up of a woman who can’t feel pain, heals more rapidly and experiences reduced anxiety and fear.
The team from University College London discovered the biology underpinning a rare genetic mutation that allows the woman named Jo Cameron to live virtually pain-free.
The study, published in Brain, follows up the team’s discovery in 2019 of the ‘Faah-out’ gene and the rare mutations that cause Cameron to feel virtually no pain and never feel anxious or afraid.
The new research describes how the mutation in Faah-out ‘turns down’ Faah gene expression, as well as the knock-on effects on other molecular pathways linked to wound healing and mood.
It is hoped the findings will lead to new drug targets and open up new avenues of research in these areas.

Fairfax business title Boss Magazine may merge with sister title Brw, according to today’s Australian. The move – denied by Fairfax in the article – reportedly means redundancy for Narelle Hooper, who joined six years ago. Hooper was formerly a senior writer with The Australian Financial Review, and was finance correspondent with ABC Radio. Deputy editor Catherine Fox, who has been with the title since its launch in 2000, and at Fairfax for over 20 years, is also rumoured to be taking redundancy.
The Australian reports speculation over who will take the reins as editor includes current Brw editor Kate Mills, Afr associate editor Anne Hyland and Nicole Pedersen-McKinnon, founding editor of Afr Smart Investor. A recent announcement stated Pedersen-McKinnon would be replaced as Smart Investor editor by James Frost in early 2013. According to the announcement, Pedersen-McKinnon was to stay with the title in a “roving role.”

The Apprentice star Karren Brady has told Hello magazine that she regrets going back to work so soon after her baby was born.
It seems that Karren was back at work just three days after having her daughter, Sophia, who’s now 14.
Karren told the magazine, “It was a mistake and most people would look on it with shock, as they should.
“When you’re young and in a career, you don’t think it will last a lifetime…
“You think it will slip through your fingers if you take time out.”
And Karren, who’s the vice chairman of West Ham football club revealed that she’s only been on holiday three times in the last 15 years.
She said, “On the rare occasion I did go away, I’d always be working, on my laptop or BlackBerry, and almost never left the room.”
