One of the positives of Vacancy 2: The First Cut is that its existence suggests that the efficiently scary original, a box-office disappointment in theaters, found a wider audience on video—enough to encourage the production of this Sony Pictures direct-to-disc follow-up. DreamWorks has optioned the action-comedy spec The Secret Lives of Road Crews by Kevin Lund and T.J. Scott, with Hal Lieberman producing.
The story revolves around a clandestine group of road crew workers who are the last line of defense against a subterranean alien race.
DreamWorks' Marc Haimes will shepherd the project for the studio, while Hal Lieberman Co. executive Brian Paschal will oversee for the shingle.
Lund and Scott recently sold an untitled action pitch to New Line Cinema, with Temple Hill Entertainment's Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen producing and Channing Tatum attached to star.
