At George W. Bush's second inaugural parade, Brotman asked, over the loudspeaker, if the president would throw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals' debut game that spring. Bush looked up at the broadcast booth, smiled and shrugged his shoulders. A few minutes later, a Secret Service agent entered the broadcast booth, and warned Brotman not to make any more direct statements or questions to the president over the loudspeaker.
