The $120 million multinational disaster movie “Inversion” leads a slate of two feature films and a TV series from Hong Kong-Chinese producer and financier Sun Entertainment Culture (Sunec). The two movies mark Sun’s English-language film debut.

No one’s is ever going to launch an Oscar campaign for Need for Speed, but there’s a case to be made for unpretentious, action-packed popcorn pleasures like the racing thriller. Aaron Paul gave a mesmerizing performance, the stunts were spectacular and, perhaps best of all, it proved that helmer Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) knows his way around a slick action vehicle. Now, Waugh is set to dive into the deep end for a much pricier venture – a $120 million sci-epic titled Inversion.
The script, from Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) and David Arata (Spy Game), follows a young Chinese scientist and a street-smart American ex-patriate who team up and race against time to prevent a cataclysmic reversal of gravity, which would send entire cities and civilians falling into the sky to certain death.

Need For Speed director Scott Waugh will direct the sci-fi epic Inversion, about two heroes trying to save the world from an apocalyptic end. Production will begin next spring.
Inversion follows two unlikely heroes, a young Chinese scientist and a street smart American expat, on a frenzied journey across the globe to save Earth from an apocalyptic threat – a total reversal of gravity that causes whole cities and civilizations to uproot and plummet into the sky.
The pic teams up Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch) and David Arata (Children Of Men, Spy Game). On board to produce are Michael Nozik, Markus Barmettler, and Philip Lee.
No word on who's going to star, but personally, I'm excited to see a sci-fi blockbuster with an Asian star.
Scott Waugh's last movie, DreamWorks’ Need For Speed, starring Aaron Paul, grossed $200m worldwide.

Latin America and China are two of the hottest markets to watch for growing film investment, experts told the fourth-annual Film Finance Forum at the Zurich Film Festival, organised by Winston Baker.
French producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam of Stone Angels said that he is “Looking a lot to China, the ‘zero’ we have at the moment could become substantial investment. In three years, China could be a bigger market than the Us.”
Charles Coker, the MD of Dasym Media who is working on Chinese co-productions with John Woo and Jackie Chan, noted: “China is a mystery to everybody here. It’s seen as the emerging behemoth in the entertainment industry…Media and entertainment spend rose from $350bn in 2011 to $547bn in 2012.” He added that 2002’s 1300 cinema screens were now closer to 13,000; Chinese box office in 2012 totaled $2.7bn and is on track to hit $3.5-$3.5bn this year.”

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will star as the eponymous hero of Omega Entertainment and Baldwin Entertainment Group's "Mandrake", with "The Scorpion King" helmer Chuck Russell behind the camera, the backers said Tuesday.
Billed as an updated take on the classic Hearst comic book, the Mandrake character is an extreme escape artist embroiled in international espionage.
"Mandrake" marks the first picture to result from Omega and Baldwin's first-look production deal.
Omega is financing and selling worldwide and producing together with Baldwin and Hyde Park Entertainment. The film is scheduled to shoot early next year in China and the U.S.
"This is a rare opportunity to reinvent one of the all-time classic comic book characters and create a new kind of hero for international audiences," Russell said.
BEG chief Howard Baldwin said he is pleased to be in business with Omega and Hearst in bringing "Mandrake" to the big screen.
Omega Entertainment was formed in 2006 by Markus Barmettler and Enrique Steiger, who hired former Lakeshore Entertainment president Peter Rogers as president of its operations.

The comedy was packaged by Cassian Elwes of WMA, who is repping the film for U.S. distribution.
It tells the tale of recently deceased Henry Lefay, whose lifelong womanizing has left numerous ex- and current wives fighting over the funeral arrangements.
His long-suffering daughter Barbara (Elisha Cuthbert) is left to clear up the mess after his death. The cast also includes Andie MacDowell, Paz Vega, Jenna Elfma, Lindsay Sloane and S. Epatha Merkerson.
The movie, which Gould also wrote, recently wrapped after a six-week shoot in Connecticut.

Omega Entertainment has made a pair of moves designed to transform it into a global financing, production and sales entity. Peter Rogers has been named president, and the company has entered into a two-year, first-look financing deal with Howard and Karen Baldwin's Baldwin Entertainment Group banner.
Switzerland-based Omega, which had been financing small- to midsize pictures and selling pan-European rights, is seeking to become a "European-based independent powerhouse," founder Markus Barmettler said. It plans to make and release as many as 10 films a year, with budgets ranging from $10 million-$60 million.
Rogers, who will be headquartered in a new London office overseeing all international operations, was president of Lakeshore International.
Omega and BEG are in the midst of putting together a slate that includes "Mandrake", a contemporary action-adventure based on the classic comic "Mandrake the Magician", which Chuck Russell will direct; "Luna", a biopic of eco-warrior Julia Butterfly Hill, to be directed by Deepa Mehta; "1:30 Train", a love story that Joel Schumacher is in talks to direct; and the romantic comedy "Indiscretion", which Peter Cattaneo will direct.
