The NCIS season finale ended on a big cliffhanger for Agent Jessica Knight (played by Katrina Law).
Much of the episode teased a terrible fate for Knight and Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole).
The duo was trapped in a ship that was destined to be sunk as an artificial reef. They had been locked inside by a murder suspect, and nobody knew their location.
Parker became seriously injured as the duo tried to find a way out, leading to Knight taking a swim through a dark passageway to find help.
Just before Knight drowned and Parker bled out, the rest of the team rescued them, ending that particular storyline. But that wasn’t the cliffhanger.
Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) had a job offer for Knight that would take her to Camp Pendleton – across the country from her current post.

Was that for real?
Is Jessica Knight out the door as it appeared after NCIS Season 21 Episode 10?
And did the only intrateam romance in the current NCIS franchise go with her?
It's been a wacky season for TV as the networks slash and cut, then slash some more following the new writers' and actors' contracts.
And it is conceivable that Katrina Law wanted out. She joined the Hawaii Five-0 cast for what turned out to be its 10th and final season, with its cancellation a surprise to many. Maybe she wanted to get a jump this time, in case Season 22 is it for NCIS.
That's not out of the realm of possibility. After all, the show's favorite characters are still featured on CBS/Paramount+, with NCIS: Origins (young Gibbs), and the unnamed Tony and Ziva project. Why pay for the Mother Ship as well?
Also, it's not unusual to have surprise departures on NCIS finales,...

NCIS would welcome several new actors into Mark Harmon’s team of special agents over the years. Michael Weatherly joked one new co-star’s attractiveness was overlooked by the show, which made things complicated on set.
How Michael Weatherly felt about Emily Wickersham being cast in ‘NCIS’ Emily Wickersham and Michael Weatherly | Sonja Flemming/Getty Images
When Cote De Pablo first left the show, it left a wide absence that NCIS was hoping to fill. The long-running procedural would cast Wickersham in the role as agent Eleanor Bishop in season 11. And at the time, she was well aware that a few might see her as an attempt to replace De Pablo’s Ziva David. This just added to her nerves, but Wickersham was welcomed with a warm reception by most NCIS fans that put her at ease.

Though TVLine has made a case for why any number of cast members/characters from NCIS‘ past could/should return for any possible on-screen tribute to the late David McCallum, there are also very valid reasons why that RSVP list might turn out to be quite limited.

NCIS has said goodbye to many beloved characters over the years.
Sadly, the series will have to say goodbye to Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard following David McCallum's death in September.
CBS and those close to the show have yet to reveal whether a tribute episode is in the works, but there's no way the series will proceed without a fitting tribute to an actor who brought so much to the show.
For a series that's been on the air for 20 years, there has been a lot of cast turnover, meaning the show has an excellent opportunity to bring back some people who have been long gone to help say goodbye to Ducky.
But who should return for the big event?

NCIS hit a home run when they cast Cote de Pablo as Special Agent Ziva David in season 3. Pablo got the role after submitting a videotape audition, and the creators loved her from the start. Sadly for fans, Pablo left the series in 2013 before briefly reprising her role in seasons 16 and 17 in 2018 and 2019. At the time, she didn’t disclose why she initially left. But the executives gave a new reason fans might not have heard in the past.
Cote de Pablo ‘wanted to move on’ from ‘NCIS,’ the executive producer explained
Cote de Pablo is one of the most beloved stars in NCIS, and it shook fans when she abruptly left the series in 2013. At the time, she didn’t give a reason why she was leaving the character of Ziva David behind. The show creators spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the situation.

NCIS fans never wanted to see Mark Harmon leave the series as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Harmon was a staple as Gibbs from season 1. And while the series left it open for his possible return, we have yet to hear of any concrete plans to bring him back. Oddly enough, after Harmon permanently left the series, NCIS showrunners didn’t remove him from the opening credits for nearly a year. Here’s why.
Why ‘NCIS’ didn’t remove Mark Harmon from the credit immediately
Mark Harmon played Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS for 19 seasons before calling it quits. Fans adored the character and weren’t sure if the show would survive without him. And it seemed like NCIS showrunners also didn’t want to say goodbye to Gibbs straight away. It took them 11 months to remove Harmon from the opening credits of the show.
Fans likely remember how the show left Gibbs.

For two decades, NCIS has been keeping viewers entertained with its signature mix of humor and high-stakes drama. The CBS series about a team of agents with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service premiered in 2023 and is heading into its 21st season (just as soon as the cast can get back to work). It’s also spawned multiple spinoffs, including a first-ever international version, NCIS: Sydney, debuting later this year. But the show – and by extension, the entire NCIS universe – could have looked very different if the series creators initially envisioned came to fruition.

The NCIS cast is in mourning following the tragic news of David McCallum's death at 90.
Deadline reported that the Scottish actor died Monday morning of natural causes surrounded by family at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
"For over 20 years, David McCallum endeared himself to audiences around the world playing the wise, quirky, and sometimes enigmatic Dr. Donald 'Ducky' Mallard," said current NCIS exec producers Seven D. Binder and David North in a statement.
"But as much as his fans may have loved him, those who worked side by side with David loved him that much more."
"He was a scholar and a gentleman, always gracious, a consummate professional, and never one to pass up a joke."
"From day one, it was an honor to work with him, and he never let us down," the statement adds.
"He was, quite simply, a legend. He was also family and will be deeply missed.

If you’d asked us two years ago, we would’ve said that there was no way NCIS would continue without Mark Harmon, that his farewell episode as Leroy Jethro Gibbs would have to be either the series finale or at the very least in the last season. But then Harmon exited in Season 19 Episode 4, with Gibbs staying behind in Alaska after wrapping a case. The series has carried on without him and also continued to be a success. The drama dealt with the question of whether Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), the senior most agent on the team, would take over. (He decided he didn’t want to.) Alden Parker (Gary Cole), a transfer from the FBI after he helped while Gibbs was technically a fugitive, joined the team as the new leader. Following Emily Wickersham’s exit in ...

This year, several actors bid farewell to their TV show. Some left for personal reasons, while others were trying other acting opportunities.
Certain shows paid respect to those actors and their actors and wrote them a satisfying character exit, such as Matt Casey on Chicago Fire.
Others got the short end of the stick like Mina Okafor on The Resident or Michael Grant on 911.
Scroll down to find out which characters made our best and worst list of satisfying character exits.
Nic Nevin (The Resident)-Best
Many fans are still devastated by this departure, and it's understandable. Nic was almost as integral to the series as Conrad himself, and CoNic is one of those iconic ships that will be in our hearts forever.
However, Emily VanCamp decided she wanted to leave the series, perhaps to spend time with her family, before the new season, and The Resident came up with the best solution.

Wilmer Valderrama has an exciting new role.
The NCIS favorite has landed the lead role of Don Diego de la Vega, who suits up as Zorro, in a reboot of the ABC drama.
The series is a reimagining of the 1957-59 series that starred Guy Williams.
While an official series order has not been made, the project is in development at Disney Branded Television.
“Growing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero,” Valderrama said in a statement.
“As an adult and a storyteller, I have a responsibility for the stories that I help bring to life."
"To partner with Gary [Marsh of Disney General Entertainment] and Disney to bring Zorro back into the family after 60 years and be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories is a dream come true.

Season 19 has featured the most change ever on NCIS: boss Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) is gone, off finding some sort of peace in Alaska; Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) is on an undercover assignment, somewhere; Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) is on the team full-time; and Alden Parker (Gary Cole) is the new leader. And we’re only seven episodes into the season! When Gibbs was suspended last season, NCIS had Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), and Bishop mostly working by themselves on cases. Knight joined after she was involved in a case, and she was McGee and Torres’ pick to join them full-time at the beginning of the season. Because of that, bringing her into the fold was seamless. They met Parker while investigating the ongoing serial killer case that Gibbs and reporter Marcie (Pam Dawber) were looking into last season, and when Alden let Gibbs go instead of arresting him,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS Season 19 premiere “Blood in the Water.”] Just because Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) survived his boat exploding doesn’t mean he’s Ok. After all, there’s still the matter of that serial killer he’s been hunting — and now seems to be hunting him, given what happened to his boat — as NCIS Season 19 begins (in a new time slot!). But first, his (former) team — remember, he was indefinitely suspended in Season 18 — needs to find out what happened to him. And since Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) can’t work alone, following Ellie Bishop’s (Emily Wickersham) exit for an undercover op, Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) has plans to fill the gaps. Although much has changed for NCIS as the CBS mainstay enters its 19th season, the plan is to give faithful fans the familiar show they have long known and loved.
Among the on- and off-screen shifts: Two characters were written out last spring, a pair of series regulars have been added for fall, Gibbs’ suspension took a deadly turn when he and his new boat went boom…. And on top of all of that, TV’s most watched drama has been handed its first time slot change ever, moving from Tuesday’s leadoff spot to Mondays at 9/8c (beginning Sept.

Ever since NCIS was picked up for its 19th season, fans have been left in the dark over how Mark Harmon will play into things.
Earlier this year, reports emerged that Harmon was plotting his exit from the series, which reportedly pushed CBS to question whether to pick up the series for another season.
Ultimately, the show was renewed for Season 19, and new reports suggested that Harmon will appear as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in a handful of episodes.
If you watch NCIS online, you know the series has set up a potential exit for the actor.
NCIS Season 18 concluded with Gibbs away from the NCIS and surviving an explosion.
Yes, there was an attempt on the beloved character's life, but there's no telling what's on the agenda for the character.
Steven D Binder, the showrunner of the series, has opened up about where things stand heading into NCIS Season 19.

NCIS is looking to the future, and there will be a lot less Mark Harmon!
Fresh off the reports that Harmon is dramatically scaling back his involvement on the CBS procedural comes some official casting scoop!
Per Deadline, Gary Cole is officially joining the cast of NCIS Season 19.
Cole is set to play FBI Special Agent Alden Park, but he is not being looked at as Harmon's replacement.
If you watch NCIS online, you know Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs was suspended from his job and was left in a troubling scenario.
It was a wild development, but as rumors swirled about his involvement on the series going forward, fans were left questioning what would become of the series.
Cole is a seasoned TV veteran, having roles on The Good Fight and The West Wing, among other series.

Gary Cole has officially signed on for NCIS Season 19, though not necessarily in the capacity one might assume.
CBS confirmed on Tuesday that Cole — whose previous TV credits include (but are by no means limited to!) The Good Fight, Veep, The West Wing and Midnight Caller — will fill the series regular role of FBI Special Agent Alden Park. And though longtime series front man Mark Harmon is expected to appear in a very limited capacity moving forward, sources stress that Cole’s character is not “replacing” Gibbs. CBS’ venerable drama series NCIS is adding two new series regular cast members for the upcoming 19th season, Gary Cole and Katrina Law.
Cole will play a new character, FBI Special Agent Alden Park. Law plays Special Agent Jessica Knight. She was introduced in the last two episodes of Season 18 as a recurring guest star with an option to become a series regular if the show got renewed, which it did. Knight is a formidable React (Regional Enforcement Action Capabilities Training Team) agent who specializes in hostage negotiations and handles daily high-risk operations with skill and precision. Sharp, athletic and tough, she is fiercely tenacious and with a wry sense of humor.
Details about Cole’s character, Special Agent Park, are not being released. He is not replacing Mark Harmon’s Special Agent Gibbs though Cole is expected to help fill the void left by Harmon’s reduced on-screen presence next season.

Mark Harmon's days as the lead of NCIS appear to be over.
According to TV Line, the Leroy Jethro Gibbs actor will appear in just a handful of episodes during NCIS Season 19.
"It’s going to be in the low single digits,” one source spills to the outlet, while another says the actor will make only “a few” appearances throughout the season.
This is certainly a major blow to the series, but it's hardly surprising.
THR reported earlier this year that Harmon was eyeing an exit from the series, and that its renewal was in doubt as a result.
The outlet also said Harmon was open to returning in a part-time capacity, paving the way for an eventual pickup.
Kelly Kahl, the president of CBS, spoke to Deadline earlier this year and addressed Harmon's involvement.
“We take it year by year with Mark, we’d love to have him...
