Sony, which has a long history with live-action kids movies, i.e., Lyle Lyle Crocodile and Goosebumps, always wanted in on this franchise, and now they’ve notched it. When the North American rights for Paddington 2 came up in a $30 million-plus auction, Sony was one of the bidders with Warner Bros, though that sequel ultimately went to Heyday’s Harry Potter studio. Deadline first told you that the threequel was in the works. Paddington in Peru sees the bear embark on a new adventure that will take him from Windsor Gardens to Peru in the latest installment of the Paddington franchise.

After debuting the first footage from Paul King’s Wonka at CinemaCon last year, Warner Bros showed off an extended trailer today for the Christmas 2023 release. The origins story stars Timothée Chalamet as the titular candymeister, who lands in a mid-European city (the pic was shot in London) after traveling the world perfecting his craft. “I’m something of a magician, inventor and chocolate maker,” he says.
His goal is to open a chocolate shop. But Willy Wonka soon learns he must battle some pretty sinister characters. He’s told, “Many people have come here to sell chocolate and been crushed by the chocolate cartel.”

Cannes — Top European powerhouse Studiocanal has renewed its global deal with Nickelodeon which will board Season 3 of CG animated megahit “The Adventures of Paddington.”
Marking most surely one of the biggest single title content deals unveiled at this year’s Mipcom, the Nickelodeon renewal for Season 3 comes as Studiocanal has also unveiled a slew of second-window deals on Season 1 after the title’s hugely successful global rollout overseen, like Season 2, by Nickelodeon. It comes, moreover, just months after Studiocanal announced in June that Dougal Wilson is attached to direct “Paddington” 3, the third feature film in the franchise.
Together, the renewal, sales and new movie confirm “Paddington” as not only the biggest franchise at Studiocanal – at a time when the production-distribution-international sales giant is looking to expand its brand activity, says Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh – but as one of the most powerful in Europe.

Exclusive: The BBC is betting big on season two of Heyday Television’s deepfake spy thriller The Capture, promoting it to the coveted Bank Holiday weekend 9pm slot that in recent years has been occupied by Bodyguard, Peaky Blinders and Vigil.
Deadline can exclusively reveal the scheduling for this year’s August Bank Holiday Sunday, which sees Ben Chanan’s Holliday Grainger-starring six-parter graduate from a Tuesday 9pm slot where it posted average rating of nearly 7.5M viewers per episode and was BBC iPlayer’s most requested new title across all genres of 2019. Season two will drop on U.S. streamer Peacock in November.
Season one’s audience increased through the run and Rebecca Ferguson, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor, said it was this “word of mouth” that partly drove the scheduling decision.
Speaking to Deadline, she credited the show’s sophistication paired with entertainment value as the driving force behind its success.

Two British icons came together for teatime in a new short film released in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. In the short film, which aired at the start of the Platinum Party at the Palace concert, the queen is joined by none other than Paddington Bear for a spot of tea and an orange marmalade sandwich. The monarch and the adorable bear instantly bond when the queen reveals that she too keeps a marmalade sandwich on her person at all times just in case of a hunger-related emergency.
"Perhaps you would like a marmalade sandwich? I always keep one for emergencies," Paddington asks the queen before producing a sandwich from his hat. Much to his delight, the queen reveals she keeps her sandwich in her handbag. "So do I," the queen responds as she pulls her own sandwich from her bag. "I keep mine in here . . . for later.

The Queen and Paddington Bear have starred in a special short film to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The two and half minute sequence, kept under wraps for several months by Buckingham Palace, BBC Studios and Heyday Films/Studiocanal, was shown tonight on BBC as part of the Jubilee celebrations. Ben Whishaw voices Paddington as he does in the movies.
The film sees Paddington delighted to learn that The Queen shares his love of marmalade sandwiches, with the Monarch opening her iconic handbag to reveal her very own ready-made supply of Paddington’s bread and orange preserve staple inside. As the beloved bear shows Her Majesty what he hides underneath his hat, The Queen confirms “So do I,” before prising open her bag and remarking “I keep mine in here.”
Paddington causes chaos by accidentally depriving the Monarch of another cup of tea and spraying cream from a Chocolate Éclair over a Palace Footman.

The BBC has commissioned a second season of Heyday Television and NBCUniversal International Studios’ spy drama The Capture.
The surveillance thriller, which will premiere on NBCUniversal streamer Peacock in the U.S. on July 15, was a hit in the UK, becoming BBC iPlayer’s biggest new title of 2019. It has racked up 22M views on the streaming service to date.
Season 1 began with the unjust arrest of an innocent man — played by Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’s Callum Turner — and escalated into a multi-layered conspiracy of manipulated evidence. Holliday Grainger’s Detective Inspector Rachel Carey is drafted in to investigate the case and she quickly learns that the truth can sometimes be a matter of perspective.
Grainger returns as Carey for the six-part second season, with events picking up from the end of Season 1 when the detective seemingly joined forces with a shadowy correction team she had previously sought to expose.
The surveillance thriller, which will premiere on NBCUniversal streamer Peacock in the U.S. on July 15, was a hit in the UK, becoming BBC iPlayer’s biggest new title of 2019. It has racked up 22M views on the streaming service to date.
