The first reviews of the Us Rake, which premieres on the Fox network on Thursday night Us time, are generally positive but some critics are undecided about the show.s prospects.
Most praise the performance of Greg Kinnear as Keegan Deane, a brilliant, charismatic lawyer with a self-destructive gambling habit and a tendency to ruin every relationship in his life.
But some critics question whether Us viewers will warm to such a flawed character. .What sort of man (and mostly, woman) will want to watch this playboy? It.s hard to say, but if Fox loses on this dice roll, at least nobody should beat them up over it,. said Variety.s Brian Lowry.
Fox has scheduled Rake at 9 pm after American Idol but Lowry doubts there will be much of a cross-over audience.

The big event on television tonight was the premiere of Under The Dome, the new post-apocalyptic series based on the novel by Stephen King and brought to the small screen by acclaimed writer Brian K. Vaughn (Y: The Last Man). Exciting as that is by itself (and you can read our own Kelly West's recap to that point), the television also happened to deliver a brand new expanded TV preview of the brand new epic monster vs. robots film Pacific Rim. And now that clip has arrived online, thanks to the WB YouTube page. Over the past few months, the folks behind the new Guillermo del Toro film have been working hard to get across the scale of the giant battles that will be seen on screen in the new film, but what I love about this new preview is how it shows off something new: tension. When 30-story...

When the first trailer arrived last week a lot of people quickly changed their minds about the upcoming zom-rom-com Warm Bodies. While the first few official stills seemed to paint it as "Twilight with zombies" (it doesn't help that it's being released by the same studio), the footage we saw on Thursday replaced ideas of moody, sparkly members of the undead with laughs, cleverness, and a sense of fun (and how can you not love the soundtrack mix of The Troggs' "With A Girl Like You" and The Black Keys' "Lonely Boy"?). And what better way to compliment a new trailer than by delivering a new poster as well? Check it out below! The poster comes to us from Entertainment Weekly, and in case you missed it earlier be sure to check out our own Kelly West's interview with writer/director Jonathan Levine! Based on the novel by Isaac Marion,...

If you.ve been reading a lot of Cinema Blend recently, you may have noticed two common occurring words in our headlines: Comic Con. From last Wednesday to yesterday six members of our staff . Katey Rich, Kelly West, Eric Eisenberg, Sean O.Connell, Jesse Carp and Da7e Gonzales . ran around the San Diego Convention Center and adjacent hotels working to bring you absolutely every little bit of information we find about upcoming movies and television shows. As hard as the work is (and believe us when we say that it.s hard work), one of the greatest rewards is being able to attend panels. Year after year studios bring some of the most interesting, beloved material and guest stars the event, and as interesting as the footage is, there.s also something magical about being surrounded by so many fans at once (Hall H holds as many as 6,500 geeks...

Hello! My name is Kelly West, and I would like to share with you the most amazing news... Word is, Tony winners Trey Parker and Matt Stone are planning to adapt their Broadway musical The Book of Mormon into a film. If you.ve seen the play, or at the very least, heard the soundtrack, this news may inspire you to go door-to-door spreading the word to the tune of a catchy musical number, but don't go running off just yet. We may have to wait a while for this. The Book of Mormon was written by Stone and Parker along with Robert Lopez, and follows a couple of young, motivated Mormons who head off to Africa to spread the good word. As you can imagine, if you.re familiar with Parker and Stone.s famous Comedy Central animated series South Park, and/or Lopez' Broadway musical Avenue Q, the...

I unapologetically love Piranha 3D. In fact, my roommate and I saw it in theaters twice, then made our girlfriends watch it and repeatedly high-fived every time they turned away in disgust. It was an awesome bonding experience. Needless to say, we.re pumped for the next one, but with the majority of the cast, dead, assumed dead or unwilling to go anywhere near the sequel, many fans are a bit apprehensive about whether the next installment will approach the B-movie awesomeness of the original. Rest easy, fellow man-eating prehistoric creature fans. Cinema Blend.s own Kelly West spent time with Piranha 3D star Paul Scheer earlier today at Comic Con and practically attacked him for answers. He played coy at first, but after some wild guesses at the fate of co-star Ving Rhames. character, he confirmed one of her stabs in the dark was spot on. The badass, last...

Believe it or not, San Diego Comic Con is less than a month away, which means you've got just a few weeks left to polish that Boba Fett helmet and track down the souvenir Green Lantern cup you'll use to hydrate on those long Hall H days. Even though rumor has it that a lot of the major players won't be making the trip to San Diego at all this year, there's still more than enough for nerds of every stripe to look forward to, whether you're dying to pepper the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia cast with questions in Hall H or catch the premiere of Cowboys & Aliens in the company of your geek brethren. I'll be there covering the four-day event with the crack team of Kelly West, Eric Eisenberg and Jesse Carp, and for my part I'm most excited to check out the new stuff they're doing--...

When Kelly West got the chance to visit the New York set of the Arthur remake and witness them shoot a scene between Russell Brand and Greta Gerwig, she also got a chance to interview Brand and the director Jason Winer. (You can read the Brand interview here and the Winer interview here). But we had to wait a little longer to catch up with Gerwig, and when the opportunity came to talk to her on the phone, I stepped in for Kelly to lob a few questions at the up-and-coming actress. After making her name in small indies like Hannah Takes The Stairs Gerwig broke out big time in last year's Greenberg, which led to her snagging the lead role of Linda in Arthur, a remake of the 1980 Dudley Moore film. Brand is stepping into Moore's role as a carefree, careless playboy, while Gerwig reprises a part originated by...

Derick Martini's Lymelife garnered some real attention at this year's Sundance Film Festival, where our Kelly West celebrated the film's "timeless quality." Even though it didn't make much of a splash upon its release, as can be the case with so many Sundance hits, it was enough to get Martini the attention needed to make a second feature. According to Variety, Paramount has picked up Martini to write and direct his next film, I Am My Family's Secret, a comedy that, like Lymelife, revolves around a pair of brothers and secrets kept by their parents. In his first film Martini had real-life brothers Kieran and Rory Culkin playing the lead characters, and it's hard to imagine casting more serendipitous than that. Maybe if they throw in Macaulay for good measure?...

It's hard to imagine a more perfect-sounding Sundance movie than Cold Souls. A movie starring Paul Giamatti as an actor named Paul Giamatti, who struggles with his soul during a performance of Uncle Vanya and decides, naturally, to have it removed. Yeah, it's definitely got a touch of Charlie Kaufman, but Souls is an original script written and directed by Sophie Barthes, making her feature debut. Our Kelly West caught the movie at Sundance, and called it "an enjoyable experience, well worth seeing for its quiet humor and for Giamatti.s superb performance." And now the movie is coming out for the rest of us on August 7, and Cinematical has debuted the mind-bending poster. Sick of posters that just slap floating heads on a sunset and call it a day? Then you'll definitely want to check this one out, which takes the metaphor of the Russian dolls to a whole...
