Once upon a time, Lil' Kim gathered Missy Elliott, Da Brat, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Angie Martinez to record a sequel to her "Hardcore" offering "Not Tonight." Together, at the height of their careers, the seasoned rap stars and a "rookie on this all-star team" (Martinez) released their 1997 hit "Ladies Night Remix," one of the greatest female collaborations in hip-hop history. Not only did the iconic, femme-forward track dominate on radio, sweep up a 1998 Grammy nomination, and become an official girls-night-out staple, but its massive success set the tone for what future female rap collaborations would aspire to be, even to this day.
Kim's original "Not Tonight" is raunchier than its remixed anthem, as it sounds more like a sultry after-hours track where the rap star doesn't mince words about her demands for lip service - "I don't want d*ck tonight / Eat my p*ssy right." But the "Ladies Night Remix,...

Tupac Shakur left quite an impact on his peers. The beloved rapper and actor starred in five critically acclaimed movies before his death at the age of 25. Directors have been open about their belief that he would have fully transitioned into acting because his talent was that great. One who feels that way is John SIngleton, who worked closely with Tupac and continued to admire him. Singleton even has an item dedicated to Tupac in his estate that’s now worth 75k.

Tupac Shakur was quite the ladies’ man. But aside from his romances, he also had close friendships with a few female companions. His longtime friendship with Jada Pinkett Smith is widely reported on, but he was also close to Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. According to Left Eye’s ex, Tupac came to Left Eye’s aid after she torched his home.

Lifetime has given the green light to three documentaries for its 2020 programming slate. They are From Darkness To Light, from three-time Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman, Emmy winner Leah Remini and A+E Originals; Smart Justice: The Jayme Closs Case hosted by Elizabeth Smart, and documentary film series Hopelessly In Love, from eOne and Creature Films.
Raisman and Remini have joined forces on From Darkness To Light, a documentary event in which Raisman helps victims of sexual assault find their voice in order to start healing and turn from victim to survivor. It was on January 20, 2018, that Raisman stared down her abuser, Larry Nasser, in a Michigan courtroom, rallying other victims to step forward and demand justice and accountability. Nasser is currently serving a 60-year federal prison sentence following his conviction on multiple charges of sexual assault.

With their 1994 breakthrough LP, CrazySexyCool, TLC members Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins, Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas had finessed their R&B-to-pop crossover with flying colors. Hit songs like “Waterfalls” and “Creep” not only garnered the group multiple Grammy wins, but reflected a zeitgeist of sexually assertive and self-educated young women of the Nineties. Yet by the time they reentered the studio to record FanMail in 1998, TLC needed a miracle: America’s best-selling girl group had filed for bankruptcy.

If you’ll pardon a direct piece of fanmail, I must out myself as a TLC superfan. For those of us who grew up rejecting scrubs in the ’90s, TLC was one of the few hip-hop groups that felt both bad-ass and parent-safe, sincere and self-possessed, cool and zany. As the top-selling female trio of all time, the group and its Billboard legacy speak for themselves, but it still feels like there’s more to be said about the authentic, empowering camaraderie of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. While later groups like Destiny’s Child and the Pussycat Dolls felt like contrived, slicked-up supergroups of lucky auditioners, TLC’s sexy, saucy vibe made for a one-of-a-kind thrill: a goofy radness you trusted. The loving was strong and they had it going on.

As one-third of the iconic girl group, the feisty Lisa Lopes blazed a trail for today's rebellious pop sirens.

In an era when being as bold as you wanna be can be good for business, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, one-rebellious-third of the iconic girl group TLC, might not have seemed like an anomaly among the Rihannas, Katys and Britneys. But back in the early 1990s, you were bound to arch a few eyebrows if your thing was to rock condoms as eye patches and spit verses like, "If I need it in the morning or the middle of the night, I ain't too proud to beg."
Philadelphia-born Lisa was just barely out of her teens in 1991, when she joined a trio under the direction of manager Perri "Pebbles" Reid, an R&B singer herself and then-wife of Laface Records co-founder Antonio "La" Reid.

A new big batch of films have been added to the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival line-up, and while there aren't a lot of big premieres in the bunch, there's a lot to catch up with for those of you (and us) who didn't attend Tiff 2011, Sundance 2012, etc. etc.
