The summer he turned fifteen Scott Bartlett awoke from the American Dream!
On paper the Bartletts are a model family. Living the suburban idyll in their sprawling Long Island home they are about to upgrade to the best house in the neighbourhood – the jewel in the crown of Father Mickey’s real estate empire. A cookie cutter life that could be lifted straight off plan. Their ascent from modest apartment in Queens to American Dreaming in the ‘burbs comes courtesy of Mickey’s determination that his family to have it all. His wife Brenda disagrees: “more money more problems!” and here the story of Lymelife begins…
Scott Bartlett’s Mum and Dad are on the verge of divorce, his brother is about to ship off to war and the girl-next-door wants a boy with a car – a kid with a Death Star just isn’t going to cut it. The...

Saving Abel has a new album dropping on June 8th entitled Miss America, and since the guys are horror fans, they thought they'd pay a little tribute to some of the not-so-wholesome women who have haunted their dreams and nightmares over the years.
The band consists of Jared Weeks-Vocals, Jason Null-Guitars, Scott Bartlett-Guitars, Eric Taylor-Bass, and Blake Dixon-Drums. All five of them collaborated to compile the list of their Top Ten favorite female villains. (An honorable mention went to commentator Nancy Grace.)
10. Medusa (Clash of the Titans) - A mythological creature called a Gorgon. A half-snake, half-human creature, which is the same way I describe a few ex-girlfriends and oddly enough wouldn't mind seeing beheaded.
9. The Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton, The Wizard of Oz) - You can't talk about female villains without mentioning The Wicked Witch. She's a fixture in just about everyone's childhood horror memory bank.

Lymelife is a remarkable directional debut from relative newcomer, Derick Martini, strongly supported by producer Martin Scorsese. The constant rattle of the Long Island trains, are not the only thing teenager Scott Bartlett must endure...
Told entirely from Scott’s youthful perspective, Lymelife focuses on the intertwined, muddled lives of two families coping with infidelity, love and the impact of Lyme disease in a small 1970s community.
Scott (Rory Culkin) is a regular teenager practicing slick lines in front of the mirror. He imagines himself as a tough guy who can beat the bully who taunts him, envious of his rich construction tycoon father, Mickey. In love with the girl he grew up with, Adrianna (Emma Roberts), Scott must convince her, he is more than just a “brother”.
His own brother, Jimmy (Kieran Culkin) is in the army, using it to escape the pain and anguish caused by his father's infidelities.

Lymelife
Stars: Rory Culkin, Jill Hennessy, Alec Baldwin, Kieran Culkin, Cynthia Nixon, Timothy Hutton | Written by Derick & Steven Martini | Directed by Derick Martini
Lymelife is a family affair. Not only does the film concern the happenstances of a pair of families in 1970s Long Island, but it was written and directed by a pair of brothers, also stars another pair of brothers and its cast boasts representatives of some of the foremost families in American acting.
In his first feature film – executively produced by none other than Martin Scorsese – Derick Martini directs Rory Culkin, who plays Scott Bartlett, a teen living with his mother, Brenda (Hennessy), father Mickey (Baldwin) and recently returned from boot camp brother, Jimmy (Kieran Culkin). Between being beaten up at school and putting up with his parent’s marital strife, Scott pines after girl next door Adrianna Bragg (Emma ‘niece of Julia’ Roberts), who lives with...

Lymelife Directed by: Derick Martini Cast: Alec Baldwin, Rory Culkin, Jill Hennessy, Emma Roberts Time: 1 hr, 49 minutes Rating: PG-13 Release Date: May 1, 2009 (limited) Plot: In late-1970’s Long Island, 15-year-old Scott Bartlett (Culkin) finds that he’s growing up amidst a much fishier situation than his well-to-do father (Baldwin) would insist. In hopes to shield her son from a recent outbreak of Lyme disease, Scott’s mother doesn’t allow Scott to leave the house without applying the necessary amount of masking tape to his clothing. This is a hilarious sight, but our first encounter with next-door-neighbor Charlie [Timothy Hutton] that we find out the disease’s wrath (amongst a slew of other situations in this film) may have more crippling effects than it seems. Who’s It For?: Fans of films that systematically bash the American dream to...

Before you get all up in our grill about covering this awesome looking coming of age flick you should know that first time director Derick Martini has written episodes of Flash Gordon. So there, he's got his genre cred locked down. Not that he needs it with a film that looks this good of course.
Based on the true childhood experiences of director Derick Martini, Lymelife is set in the 70’s, and is seen through the innocent eyes of 15-year old Scott Bartlett. A unique coming of age story, Lymelife explores first love, last love and the dangers of the American Dream. This hilarious, violent and sometimes tragic look at family dynamics weaves an intricate tapestry of American life during a time of drastic economic and emotional change. Award Winning and Critically acclaimed, Lymelife features a magnificent ensemble cast who make you laugh and cry along with them.

For brothers Kieran and Rory, the last name Culkin has to be a double-edged sword. Sure, the mere mention will open the door to any audition -- but who among us does not still immediately flash to eldest brother Macaulay as an 8-year-old doing the "Home Alone" face?
For years, the two younger brothers cheerfully rode the Culkin gravy train, playing various versions of each other, or being cast as newer-model Macaulays. But suddenly they're not kiddie actors anymore -- they're shaggy, good-looking young guys who seem more Wes Anderson than John Hughes.

Frustrated teens, the roar of the railroad, killer ticks and Alec Baldwin: pretty much the way I've always seen Long Island.
A native, Derick Martini, sees it that way too, directing and co-writing (with his brother, Steve) a movie that gathers up a mass of their homeland and shapes it into something like art. "Lymelife," set amid marital decay and teen frustration, isn't quite the "American Beauty" of the 516 area code, but it'll do.

When brothers Derick and Steven Martini debuted their first production Lymelife at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival, they found their small indie film surrounded by attention and interest mainly for the dream cast they assembled. In fact, the drama features one of the more amazing ensemble casts assembled for such a low-budget film, many of them doing some of their finest film work. At its core, it may seem like a somewhat standard indie coming-of-age story centering around Rory Culkin's Scott Bartlett, a teenager living on Long Island in the '70s whose family is being torn apart due to the success of his realtor father (Alec Baldwin) and the effects that Lyme disease is having on their community. Scott has had a secret crush on his neighbor Adrianna (Emma Roberts) since they...

The trailer for the upcoming indie film "Lymelife," starring Alec Baldwin, Rory Culkin, Emma Roberts and Kieran Culkin, has been released. Click on the link below to check it out. [via TrailerAddict] Plot: The film revolves around an awkward, sensitive 15-year old boy, Scott Bartlett (Rory Culkin), whose family life is turned upside-down after an outbreak of Lyme disease hits the community spreading illness and paranoia. Scott's parents are on the verge of a divorce as his older brother Jim (Kieran Culkin) is about to ship off for war. Complicating matters, Scott has fallen in love with his next door neighbor, Adrianna Bragg (Emma Roberts). Adrianna seems to be the only person in the world who understands Scott demonstrated by her equally troubled, less affluent family including an uptight mother, Melissa (Cynthia Nixon), carrying on a not-so-clandestine love affair, and a father, Charlie (Timothy Hutton), slowly slipping away from the effects of Lyme disease.

Derick Martini's "Lymelife" is described by the Sundance catalog as "the story of Scott Bartlett (Rory Culkin), a typical 15-year-old boy growing up in late-1970s Long Island. His suburban existence is primarily marked by a nerdy interest in Star Wars, fending off bullies at high school, his longtime crush on neighbor/best friend Adrianna Bragg (Emma Roberts), and navigating the dysfunctional terrain of his parents' rocky marriage--all against the paranoid backdrop of a Lyme disease outbreak, which has freaked out Scott's high-strung mother, Brenda (Jill Hennessy), and has already claimed Adrianna's father, Charlie (Timothy Hutton), as a victim. With Charlie out of work due to his illness, Adrianna's mother, Melissa (Cynthia Nixon), takes a job working for Scott's father,...

The Toronto International Film Festival has announced a whole load of films, including many world premiers, to be added as part of their lineups. Some of the more interesting looking ones are Lance Daly's Kisses about two Irish kids who run away from home and deal with the dark underside of Dublin. Another film I'm definitely interested in is Scott McGehee and David Siegel's Uncertainty which stars one of my personal favorites, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It's about a couple in love who find out she's pregnant and they flip a coin from where it apparently follows both possible storylines, but with the same disastrous consequences. Also screening will be Fabrice du Welz's Vinyan (trailer here) which is about a couple who lost their son in a Tsunami and won't give up looking for him. In the Discovery program, the stop-motion animation $9.99 which is about a man seeking the meaning to life.
