Ten years ago, actor Sean Hayes and playwright David Adjmi were working together to develop a play based on the life of Oscar Levant, the actor, pianist and notorious wit of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Now Hayes is preparing to bring Good Night, Oscar to Broadway next spring. The play is written by Doug Wright.
Exactly how, why and when Hayes and Adjmi split up their partnership on the project is being disputed by both sides in an unusually public way. Adjmi wrote a long Facebook post detailing his perspective earlier this week, as publicity for Good Night, Oscar is just beginning to emerge. Theater twitter took note, as did The New York Times.
In response, Hayes, Wright and their producer Beth Williams have released their own extensive statement, obtained by Deadline. The two accounts of exactly how Levant came into Hayes’ life are notably different.

Who were the best LGBTQ couples in daytime soap opera history? The sad truth is that there aren’t that many to choose from. Despite the shows dipping their toes in the water with queer characters and storylines in the 1990s — like Ryan Phillippe as groundbreaking gay teen Billy Douglas on “One Life to Live” from 1992 to 1993 — the show shied away from romance for its queer characters until the 21st century. Scroll down to read some of our forum posters’ favorites below.

If every spring in New York means that when greenery finally blooms on scrawny trees Judith Light assumes her rightful place on Broadway, life would be pretty wonderful.
Trees finally blossomed this week, and Light is back on stage, in the very funny "The Assembled Parties" at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, so life is pretty wonderful.
"The Assembled Parties" likely works best on this island, and to those who get the jokes with Yiddish words. Still, Richard Greenberg has written a brilliant play full of the sort of dialog that feels sharp enough to have come from someone who drank at the Algonquin Round Table.
This has the feel of old New York, set in a rambling upper West Side apartment. It opens in the kitchen as Julie (Jessica Hecht, Broadway's "Harvey," TV's "Breaking Bad") is cooking and chatting with Jeff (Jeremy Shamos, Broadway's "Clybourne Park," TV's "Fringe"), her son Scotty's pal.

Please Like Me (Australia)
There were several moments I really enjoyed here. I loved where Josh talked to his father about him paying for Josh to visit him in Thailand — the only problem being Josh would have to see his father there. Josh’s quiet comment of ‘That’s a shame’ was hilarious as was the bit with the dog in a dress. I also liked Tom talking about having a child, only to find out that you didn’t like it very much and would have to pretend to love it. It had an odd ring of truth. But, my favorite was the gag about the erotic gif that Tom made. This show is full of lines that are rich with wit and warmth. And Claire and Tom’s kiss in the rain was really sweet. But I still think that Tom’s ex isn’t pregnant.

The results are in! We asked readers to name their favorite TV characters of all time and thousands responded. This year, for the first time, we weren't just asking about favorite gay TV characters. Folks could vote for characters of either gender - and all persuasions. Of course, this being AfterElton we expected gay characters to figure prominently on this list - and they do - but it is interesting to see what female and straight TV roles also resonated with the AfterElton readership.
Before we get to the actual rankings, here are a few statistics.
First, the top fifty came from a broad range of TV shows. Thirty programs were represented, and the two that made the best showing (Glee and Modern Family) placed only four characters each in the rankings.
Second, female characters nabbed 15 of the top 50 spots, or 30%.
Third, obviously a poll like this favors characters from...

Days of Our Lives
The highlight of this past week were the breakup scenes with between Gabi and Will. Both Chandler Massey and Camila Banus delivered excellent performances and the writing was about as realistic as this show is able to muster. I loved that Gabi stood up for herself and let Will know she couldn’t be in a relationship devoid of intimacy and that Will’s excuses that he wanted to show her 'respect' were weak at best. And I liked that she told Will in no uncertain terms that he had issues he needed to deal with, and she wasn’t going to let him hide behind her anymore.
Will was very upset at losing his beard.
But, there is no way that no one in this storyline wouldn't at least suggest that Will might be gay. It’s simply implausible. Gabi said...

EastEnders
I know a lot of people were upset that Ben slept with Lola given that Ben knows he’s gay. We have had too many tv gay teens who lose their virginity to girls, but I can sort of relate to the situation Ben was in, and I get why he would do it.
He might think he’s gay or believe he’s gay, but sleeping with a girl would remove any doubts, which is exactly how it played out. However, I’m not sure why Lola would sleep with Ben. It’s not like she particularly liked him or was even attracted to him. She just seemed all too casual about sleeping with Ben to me. But perhaps that’s an attitude that many teens have about intimacy in general, not worried about the very real ramifications of casual sex. And I suspect...

Maryada
I can’t help but be amused by Vidya’s determination to reunite Gaurav and Karan. After all, who better to play Cupid than the woman you dumped to be with your fella? Only in soaps. But given that Vidya nearly killed herself and then took a bullet for her ex, I guess I can understand why Gaurav would feel so guilty that he'd be willing to reject the man he loves.
I hope though with everybody and their grandmother pushing these boys to get back together that Gaurav gets over himself and works things out with Karan soon. It’s wonderful that this show is telling this groundbreaking story, but I think it would do even more good if Indian viewers could see these two men dealing with the drama of an ongoing relationship.
