Amidst a number of character deaths that took place in the second season of Apple TV+’s cosmic epic saga Foundation, the one that turned out to be the most unexpected was the death of Salvor Hardin. As a character, she was integral to the series, especially in the first season, where, as the warden of the planet Terminus, she helped avert the first crisis. By the end of the previous season, guided by the visions of her mother Gaal Dornick’s childhood, she had started on her journey towards Gaal’s home, the water planet Synnax. It was hinted that, like her mother, Salvor has been gifted with unique abilities of visions and psychic connections as well, which eventually come into play in the recently concluded second season with the introduction of mentalics and premonitions regarding The Mule.

“Foundation” fans shocked by the sheer number of twists and turns in the Apple TV+ show’s explosive Season 2 finale can thank David S. Goyer’s eagerness to surprise. After an entire planet had been destroyed and multiple characters had shockingly died, the final moments of the Season 2 finale revealed yet another major character death to really twist the knife.
“In the wake of ‘Game of Thrones,’ I feel like audiences have come to watch shows in a certain kind of way,” Goyer told TheWrap during an interview coordinated through his personal publicist. “So there’s an expectation that Episode 9 on these big shows, just a ton of stuff will happen, and then Episode 10 will be a coda. From unique bio-organisms, hybrid monstrosities, and sentient androids, Isaac Asimov’s cosmic universe is filled with archetypal creations that have influenced the lore of a number of other franchises. One of the major factions of Asimov’s verse, the Mentalics, was introduced in the second season of Apple TV+’s Foundation, adapted from the novel series of the same name. Mentalics are psychically enhanced beings who can communicate, project, and interact through telepathy. Through Gaal Dornick’s central role in the narrative of the interplanetary saga, the Mentalics are explored further, and their role will be integral in the upcoming world-building of Foundation, including the arrival of the series’ most important figure, the Mule. Let’s take a look at the connection established with the unique community and what role mental health professionals might play in the future.

There is a certain saying in theological studies that talks about accepting the situations one cannot change, having the courage to change what can be changed, and having the wisdom to know the difference between both situations. The precepts of Foundation are by no means grounded in theology, yet Isaac Asimov’s masterwork heavily hinges on these principles, as shown throughout the first season of Apple TV+’s adaptation of the novel series and also in the recently concluded second season as well.
The first season of Foundation primarily dealt with the conflict between brilliant mathematician Hari Seldon and the genetic Cleon dynasty, the rulers of the Galactic Empire, stemming from the fact that Hari’s calculations based on psychohistory predicted the downfall of the Empire. As a deterrent, after being banished to planet Terminus, Hari created the Foundation, which is an institute to preserve the essentials of human civilization...

The marketing material for Foundation season 2 makes no attempt to hide the fact that the show is in store for a big time jump. While this would be a major twist for many other TV shows, for Foundation‘s eons-spanning narrative it’s pretty standard. Not only did season 1 feature multiple time jumps, but the final moments of its finale actually bring viewers up to roughly 138 years in the future when season 2 is set to begin. That just happens to be the amount of time it takes for both Salvor Hardin (Leah Harvey) and Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) to reach Gaal’s native planet Synnax.

The mission statement for Foundation, the Apple TV+ sci-fi epic based on Isaac Asimov’s novels, is pretty clear in season 2. As the season’s trailer ominously intones, “this is an age of darkness.” That’s right: it’s time for war.
But one needn’t have watched the season 2 trailer nor have read Asimov’s books to know that the confrontation between the Galactic Empire and Hari Seldon’s Foundation was inevitable. One need to have only listened to Seldon himself. The mythical psychohistorian played by Jared Harris revealed at the end of Foundation season 1 that his ragtag group had successfully conquered their First Crisis and the Second Crisis was on its way. And it’s something that Harris hammered home in speaking with Den of Geek prior to the release of season 2 on July 14.

Isaac Asimov’s Foundation seemed like a near impossible work to try and adapt. But somehow David S Goyer has managed to do that in impressive fashion. Supported by a wonderful cast that includes Lee Pace, Jared Harris, and Laura Birn, Foundation has managed to carve itself a place in the world of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. And, as shows like Game of Thrones and Star Trek have proven, there’s plenty of worth in those genres. With Apple’s premium service losing its main flagship show in Ted Lasso, I find it interesting that they’re really striving for Foundation to be that for them. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but the creators have put in the work to provide an improvement over the first season and a clear path towards an intriguing future. Join me as talk to David S. Goyer, Lee Pace, Laura Birn and Cassian Bilton...

While "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" got all the attention for being the most expensive TV show in history (and was -- deservedly! -- praised for actually putting that money on screen with its massive settings), there is another show that is just as visually impressive and expansive — the Apple TV+ series "Foundation."
While we wait for "Dune: Part Two" to bring back desert power and giant worms, "Foundation" is the seminal sci-fi book adaptation to watch. Based on Isaac Asimov's magnum opus of the same name — which actually inspired Frank Herbert to craft the tale of Paul Atreides — "Foundation" is a true sci-fi epic, the likes of which we haven't gotten in decades. The show looks simply stunning, with vast worlds and gorgeous alien locations.
