Since I showed some love to Netflix yesterday, I thought it was only proper today to put the spotlight on Amazon Prime and their vast streaming library that features hundreds of genre titles.
There’s no denying that it can be an overwhelming experience to try and navigate your way through over 200 different pages of movies, so I went ahead and put together a list of 31 different films that should help you get into the Halloween spirit throughout the month of October. And since variety is the spice of life, I tried to give you guys an assortment of different sub-genres, so that you should be able to find something to fit any horror-loving mood! Happy October and happy viewing, everyone!

Just one day after Carrie Fisher died at age 60, her mother Debbie Reynolds was rushed to the hospital and died following a report of a possible stroke.
The heartbreak of losing her daughter may have exacerbated the 84-year-old’s existing health issues. The Singin’ in the Rain star’s son Todd Fisher told reporters that Reynolds had said just hours earlier, “I miss her so much, I want to be with Carrie.”
There have been numerous reports of spouses who have spent decades together dying just days – or even hours – after their partners. On December 9, Trent Winstead, 88, of Tennessee, died only hours after learning Dolores,...

It's bad enough to be a werewolf, hunted by the light of the full moon. But to be a foreign werewolf? That's beyond cruel. An American Werewolf in London squirms with comic unease from the get-go, and almost immediately from its release 35 years ago — August 21st, 1981 — the bipolar horror-comedy has been celebrated on two impressively different fronts: as a landmark in startling makeup effects that legitimized the gross-out, and as a riotous piece of fish-out-of-water college humor. Calling the film a sick joke is perfectly apt. It's a sweaty, shuddery experience,...

I love a heartwarming, feel-good romance story just as much as the next person, but sometimes, it’s those doomed cinematic relationships that tend to stick with you the most. One of the more interesting ill-fated couples I recently encountered was Rob (Cian Barry) and Holly (Abigail Hardingham) from Nina Forever. The new couple must endure the looming presence of Rob’s ex-girlfriend, Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy), who died recently in a car accident and happens to show up anytime they become intimate.
The pitch-black comedy touches on a lot of the complications that come with modern relationships and all the proverbial baggage we endure as a result of our previous romantic entanglements. It really struck me throughout the story just how well directors Ben and Chris Blaine perfectly explore those themes in Nina Forever, making me realize that some of my very favorite movie love affairs, particularly from the 1980s,...

Audrey Azoulay has been announced as France’s new Minister of Culture and Telecommunications, replacing Fleur Pellerin.
Pellerin’s unexpected departure was part of a larger cabinet reshuffle by French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, which saw three other portfolios change hands.
Her departure came just days after she made her first visit to the Us on a trip to promote France’s new improved tax credits international productions, during which she met with several majors including 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios, Sony Pictures and Lionsgate and Warner Brothers to discuss topics such as the copyright and piracy.
The minister, who was in the job for 18 months, was reported by French media to have burst into tears and nearly fainted on receiving the news she was being replaced.

So much has been said about the proliferation of CGI in modern movies. It’s a technique that has become extremely commonplace, given the relative low cost and ease with which all kinds of special effects can now be digitally whipped up. But CGI hasn’t come without its share of criticism. Many blame its overuse for weightless action sequences and aesthetic uncanniness, damaging the final product rather than enhancing it.
More and more fans are crying out for a return to the olden days of film-making. One of the main marketing focuses of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, for example, is its strong use of on-location filming, puppets and animatronics. Conversely, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy was heavily criticised for what many people consider to be worse effects than The Lord Of The Rings, which was created a decade before.
There is just something much more tangible about practical effects.

Traditionally, Halloween is about covering yourself in fake blood and going to a party so that people can repeatedly ask you what you came as. When all you really want is a nice night in, right?
Hence this indispensable guide to 12 classic terrifying movies on Netflix. That's 24 hours of horror (give or take), so you can freak yourself out from sundown to sundown without ever having to leave the comfort of your sofa.
Although we strongly advise that you check behind that sofa first - and the curtains while you're at it - for the sake of your peace of mind.
1. The Omen (1976)
Arriving hot on the heels of The Exorcist, Richard Donner's The Omen solidified the notion that small children are terrifying and probably possessed by the Devil. The '70s horror is still an effective frightener that boasts moments to make you leap out of your seat.

It starts with a cry of pain. Then a look of terror or ecstasy. And then the body starts to change. Hair grows from the knuckles. Maybe the eyes turn black. Sometimes fangs sprout. Before you know it, the person in front of you isn’t a person anymore. The Transformation can be the most horrific moment in a horror film because it’s where the internal becomes the external. No more false faces. No more hiding. And depending how fearsome the new being is, no more running as well.

British cinema (and to a certain extent, British pop-culture as a whole) has always had a strange relationship with screen portrayals of sex and sexuality. In the mid-1950’s, Britain’s film censorship board the BBFC passed a documentary about a naturist camp uncut, suitable for mainstream cinema release, leading to a wave of exploitation filmmakers using naturist camp settings in order to display as much nudity as possible onscreen. During this period, the BBFC’s guidelines clearly dictated that “breasts and buttocks, but not genitalia” were allowed to be displayed, as long as the naturist camp setting was clearly clarified to the audience- a guideline that unwittingly opened the floodgates to multiple films from opportunistic producers.
Despite the plethora of films showing the human body (almost) as nature intended, elsewhere British cinema was still offering archaic views of sexuality- the Carry On franchise, that begun in 1958 and still has...

The first round of HitFix's inaugural World Series of Monsters is over and your picks have taken the field. Beginning today you can vote for the Most Valuable Monster of this amazing team, but let's look at the results first shall we? Vampires (3rd Base) Dracula (Gary Oldman from "Bram Stoker's Dracula") took it with 22.24% of the vote. He beat David from "The Lost Boys" who had 20%. Swoony Vampires (Designated Hitter) In something of a shocker, Selene from the "Underworld" franchise blew away the competition with 30.67%. Very disappointing showing by the "Twilight" and "Vampire Diaries" fan bases. Demons (Catcher) Pennywise easily won this with 24.2% of the vote. Slightly unexpected. Serial Slashers (Shortstop) The legend, Freddy Krueger, took the starting spot with 28.26%. His closest competition? Michael Myers with 17%. And the once proud Jason Voorhees? Finished with just 12.8% which put him behind "Saw's" Jigsaw. Ouch. Killer Animals and Insects (Bullpen) A close...

An American Werewolf in London is another one of those moves that I enjoy watching every year around Halloween. It has everything that makes for a great classic horror movie. The movie was incredibly bloody, violent, and scary, but one of the things that I liked about it most was the humor. It made me laugh, and that was all thanks to the character Jack Goodman, who was a rotting corpse with an upbeat and cheerful attitude. He's actually one of my favorite characters ever in a horror movie. I came across a lot of fun behind the scenes information about the film, and maybe there's something here that you've never heard of before. So without further ado, here are 15 fun facts about An American Werewolf in London.

An American Werewolf In London (1981)
Written and directed by John Landis
Starring: David Naughton (David Kessler), Griffin Dunne (Jack Goodman), Jenny Agutter (Nurse Alex Price), Don McKillop (Inspt. Villiers) and Paul Kember (Sgt. McManus)
I will be honest with all of you; I am not a huge fan of ‘The Howling’. I know, I know. One of the most revered werewolf films ever made with a huge base of fans and critics alike. By all accounts I should be among them, but there is just something about it I do not gel with. It’s not a badly made film and it boasts some really incredible visual effects (you don’t see a natural lady garden in this day and age, either) and Dee Wallace was very likeable in the lead role, but as a whole, I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe it wasn’t precisely to my tastes,...

Even if the name Rick Baker doesn’t immediately ring a bell, I can promise you that you’re quite familiar with his body of work. One of the top special makeup effects artists in the game, Baker got his start on a little film called The Exorcist, serving as legendary makeup master Dick Smith’s assistant. From there, Baker quickly rose to prominence as a master of the art in his own right, making history when he became the first makeup artist ever to win an Academy Award: it was in 1981 when the Makeup and Hairstyling category was added, and Baker took the statue home thanks to his incredible work on An American Werewolf in London. David Kessler’s transformation from human to wolf in that film is without a doubt the best the genre has ever seen, and it was Rick Baker who was responsible for pulling off that incredible magic trick.

5) Evil Nine feat. Danny Brown “The Black Brad Pitt”
Directed by ?
This is a really visually interesting, entertaining music video. The track itself is really weird and hilarious but still infectious at the same time. The first thirty seconds consist of really well executed teaser-shots of the jungle. Brown is nowhere to be seen but the main concept consists of a really aggressive break-dancing soldier. Still featuring classic elements of the genre, there are also cutaways of an alluring woman, and jewels not to mention a leader figure.
4) Helado Negro “Dance Ghost”
Directed by David Kessler
Relocating from Miami to Savanna, “Dance Ghost” is dominated by those familiar tropical yet dark vibes, Roberto Carlos Lange provides. The video documents the underbelly of paradise made up of interesting visuals ranging from seedy dance clubs to church performances. Towering hotels in the background are strongly juxtaposed with the street life Lange grew up with.

Here Lies ... An American Werewolf in London, which won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Makeup, the first year that award was given in regular competition.
Peter from Armchair Audience here. A quick story first. As a film-obsessive I've tried hard to not be that guy (you know the one) who insists his/her friends watch all their favorite movies. However, a few years ago and in a mildly intoxicated state, I forced my wife and dinner guest to sit through An American Werewolf in London, accompanied by my own personal commentary track. When werewolf-bitten David Kessler (David Naughton) first turns into a hairy beast I (allegedly) repeated the phrase,"Best transformation scene ever," about twenty times. That phrase has come to haunt me through the years--my wife likes to spring it on me any time I suggest watching a movie to friends.
Here's the thing: It is the best transformation scene ever.

Ok, we all are aware of the brilliance of Rob Bottin and Rick Baker, and without them, practical effects might not have evolved to the extent that they did. [Thank you to David Kessler for permission to use the fantastic images and the initial inspiration.]
Visual artists have it great. The number of books, techniques, methods and overall resources for developing your craft as a painter or illustrator are astounding. The available resources for learning how to compose music feel almost non-existent in comparison. (I’m not talking about the individual skills of harmony, orchestration, etc. I am referring to a comprehensive method for actually putting it all together.)
But although the methods for painting and composing are not perfectly relatable, we can borrow many of the lessons from the visual arts and adapt them to writing music.
The “value study” is a technique I learned about recently and I immediately wondered about how the same principle could be applied to our craft.
What is a Value Study?
