Exclusive: Adam McKay has berthed his new production company Hyperobject Industries to a first-look feature film deal at Paramount Pictures, and hopes the new relationship will get off the ground with the pending destruction of earth by a meteor, in a moment where everything is paralyzed by polarizing and partisan political and media landscapes.
McKay hopes to next direct Don’t Look Up, which Paramount will get first look at when he completes the first draft soon. He describes it as a “dark satire in the school of Wag the Dog, Doctor Strangelove and Network and if it is half as good as any of them, I will be happy,” McKay told Deadline. “Two mid-level astronomers discover a meteorite will destroy earth in six months and must go on a media tour to warn mankind.”

Succession executive producer Adam McKay is expanding his relationship with the network and studio behind the buzzy drama series. The Oscar winner has launched a new company, Hyperobject Industries, which has closed a five-year, first-look television deal with HBO, to develop content for HBO and streaming sibling HBO Max.
Joining McKay as a partner in Hyperobject Industries is his long-time producer Kevin Messick as the company has set up its first project under the new deal — a limited series based on Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown’s upcoming book about Jeffrey Epstein, which will be developed by HBO Films.
This is probably the highest-profile among a number of TV series projects about the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender shopped following his arrest and subsequent death this past summer.

Adam McKay is developing a limited series about Jeffrey Epstein at HBO, Variety has learned.
The untitled series is based on Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown’s upcoming book about Epstein. Brown’s reporting was a driving force behind the multimillionaire financier’s arrest this past July on sex trafficking charges. McKay will executive produce along with Brown and his producing partner, Kevin Messick. McKay is also attached to direct the pilot.
The potential series falls under a new five-year first-look television deal that McKay has signed with HBO to develop content for both HBO and the streaming service HBO Max.
McKay will produce under his new company, Hyperobject Industries, with Messick joining the company as a partner. Given the current situation with the WGA, no Hyperobject Industries project will be part of any packaging deals through Wme, who rep McKay as a director and producer.

Paramount Sets First Look Deal With Adam McKay & Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez & Gloria Sanchez Labels
Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has set Gary Sanchez Productions and sister label Gloria Sanchez into a new three-year first look feature deal. Gary Sanchez Productions is led by principals Will Ferrell and Adam McKay with producer Jessica Elbaum heading Gloria Sanchez.
This comes as Paramount percolates the Demetri Martin scripted Will, and the English language remake of the German comedy Toni Erdmann, with Lisa Cholodenko to direct a vehicle for Kristen Wiig.
Ferrell and McKay once had a deal under the prior regime at Paramount but left the studio. Gary Sanchez Productions films have grossed almost $1 billion worldwide for Paramount. That includes Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters ($226M), Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues ($173M), the Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg Daddy’s Home ($242M) and Daddy’s Home 2 ($180M) and The Big Short, the...
