Geoffrey Burbidge was born on 24 September 1925 in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, UK. He was married to Margaret Burbidge. He died on 26 January 2010 in La Jolla, California, USA.
In 1957, he, his wife, Fred Hoyle, and William Fowler published a paper in the Reviews of Modern Physics which demonstrated how elements are synthesized in the nuclear reactors of stars. In 1983, Fowler received the Nobel Prize in physics for his role in the collaboration.
