A 27-year-old California man was sentenced on Monday to life in prison for murdering his wealthy older boyfriend in 2015 — a crime the judge called “shockingly evil.”
David Meza was convicted in May of domestic violence resulting in murder and conspiracy to obstruct justice in the slaying of 51-year-old Texas retiree Jake Merendino, who was found stabbed 24 times with his throat slit in a ravine near Rosarito, Mexico, on May 2, 2015.
In addition to his life sentence, Meza was ordered to serve an additional 20 years in prison for the conspiracy to obstruct charge.
Meza’s attorneys did not immediately return messages seeking comment on Monday night.

Thanks to girlfriend Lauren Graham, Peter Krause was able to fulfill a lifelong dream!
Speaking with Harry Connick Jr. on his show, Harry, on Thursday, the Catch actor revealed that the Gilmore Girls star made one his childhood hopes become a reality.
“I heard that she helped you fulfill a lifelong dream,” Connick Jr. said on the talk show.
“Yes, she did,” Krause, 51, admitted. “I got to portray a park ranger on Gilmore Girls the reunion films. And when I was a kid, that was one of the things that I wanted to be — I wanted to be a forest ranger or park ranger.

Peter Krause admittedly had a hard time gauging romantic interest from his girlfriend Lauren Graham when the duo first met years ago.
Speaking with Kelly Ripa on Live with Kelly on Thursday, the Parenthood star admitted that he has known Graham for “a long time” and gushed, “she’s great.”
Graham, 49, and Krause, 51, both starred on the family drama series Parenthood as sister (Sarah Braverman) and brother (Adam Braverman) from 2010-15, during which their relationship bloomed.
“We kept things pretty quiet,” Krause said about keeping their relationship hush hush at the beginning.

Let's be honest: Everyone could use a little Adam Braverman in their life.
Since NBC's Parenthood debuted in 2010, we've watched Zeke and Camille's firstborn — played so perfectly by Peter Krause — grow from being a tad neurotic and overprotective to quickly become the family's shoulder to cry on and one of our favorite characters on television. Whether it was attempting to "hip it up" to get a rapper's business, wearing a pirate costume for his son Max (Max Burkholder), trying to find the perfect wig for his wife Kristina (Monica Potter) during chemo or unleashing his signature dance moves (aka "The Fever"), here are the 31 times (so far) we have adored Adam Braverman.

People die a lot in Six Feet Under. In (almost) every episode, in fact. But five seasons of at least one death per episode didn’t prepare me for Nate (Peter Krause) biting the bullet in “All Alone,” the third-to-last episode of the series.

The Emmy nominations came out this week and no doubt there are some upset fans across the TV watching world. Award shows are fun. It’s nice to see our favorite shows, actors/actresses, writers, and directors all get recognition for the show that we dedicate hours of our lives to.
With that said, it’s also a bummer when some of our favorites don’t get the recognition they should. I’m one of those people. But it’s also important to remember that award or no award, great shows are still great shows, and great performers are still great performers.
Let’s take a look at some of those actors and actresses who got snubbed this year.
Agree or disagree? Have any snubs of your own to add? Leave a comment!

Although it may come off as a bit odd that "Parenthood" star Lauren Graham is dating her on-screen brother Peter Krause, Graham says her relationship with Krause -- who plays the responsible Adam Braverman on the NBC series -- just fell into place.
“It was just a funny timing thing,” Graham told More of Krause, whom she met in 1995 when both were guest stars on CBS' "Caroline In The City." “We were friendly. But our lives went in separate directions. I would see him now and again. It wasn’t like I thought, 'Oh, someday.'"
“We were just together,” Graham, who plays Sarah Braverman, recalled of reconnecting with Krause on the "Parenthood" set. “For whatever reason -- it could have been my upbringing or whatever -- but the idea of getting married when I was in my thirties panicked me. I was very ambitious. I just wasn’t ready.

Will "Parenthood" be renewed for Season 5? At the NBC series' PaleyFest panel on March 7, creator Jason Katims told HuffPost TV that he feels "really optimistic" that the Braverman clan will return -- and judging by the packed auditorium at Los Angeles' Saban Theatre, the show's fans are as loyal and vocal as ever.
"Everybody at the network has been so positive about the show and I think that they are fans of the show themselves and they really, creatively, loved the direction it went this year, so that’s really good," Katims said on the Paley red carpet. "I also know that the ratings are not what anybody would dream for them to be, but they’re definitely moving in the right direction for us and for the network. We’re pretty happy there too. So I’m hopeful."

"Parenthood" viewers have been fearing this week's Christmas episode (Tues., Dec. 11 at 10 p.m. Est on NBC), which sees Kristina's (Monica Potter) health taking a turn for the worse after being diagnosed with cancer earlier in Season 4.
Max Burkholder -- who plays Max, the son of Kristina and Adam Braverman (Peter Krause), on "Parenthood" -- told HuffPost TV via phone that he "cried so much" when he read the script for the NBC series' Christmas installment, titled "What to My Wondering Eyes." Below, 15-year-old Burkholder talks about Max's journey with Asperger's, Kristina's fate, missing his TV sister Sarah Ramos, seeing his TV mom smoke pot and that damn vending machine.
Max has really come a long way this season. What do you love about playing him?
I like seeing Max whenever he's in a social situation, seeing how much he's grown since the first season.

"Parenthood's" mid-season finale airs Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 10 p.m. Est on NBC, and I've been meant to write about it for a while. (I'm in a perpetual state of meaning to write about "Parenthood" and not doing it.)
I'll start things off with a personal anecdote that I think illustrates what's best about the show, and I'll try to get through this part without crying. Ha. That's like trying to get through an episode of "Parenthood" -- especially this season -- with dry eyes. It just won't happen.
Last March, on a ski vacation in Colorado, I was on a very large mountain, heading downhill and toward a restaurant where my husband and I planned to meet friends for lunch. I'm not a great skier, but I was doing pretty well that day ... though I was in the process of realizing I kind of just wanted to quit -- not just for the day,...

Thank you to the show Parenthood for your portrayal of someone becoming a medical marijuana patient.
During the Thanksgiving holiday, my procrastination on home projects led me to getting caught up on the fall season of a few shows, including NBC's Parenthood. I was moved to watch the main characters Kristina and Adam Braverman and their family struggling with her cancer and all that the disease brings. At my patients' advocacy organization, Americans for Safe Access (Asa), we see thousands of our members and families embark on a similar struggle. The story of Kristina Braverman's cancer spills into several story lines as the family experiences the news in their own ways.

Adam Braverman is once again trying to keep it all together. With Kristina going in for her surgery on the same day that Max has to give an important campaign speech, he's got to try and find a way to be in two places at once while keeping his nerves for both family members at bay. Adam has always been one of the higher-strung characters on Parenthood and tends to take his stress out on other people, but he can't do that here, not when he has to stay supportive for both of his family members. How will Adam manage to control his emotions on arguably one of the most important days of his life?

Sarah Braverman may have made a big mistake. After being kissed by her boss and not knowing how to tread with him in the time following, she immediately latches onto her fiance and suggests that they move in together. It's not like her relationship with Mark has ever been poor or that the move comes from a totally unexpected place; they have great chemistry and were just thinking about having a child together at the end of Parenthood's last season. No, her sudden interest in furthering her relationship comes not (purely) from genuine desire to grow closer and begin building their life together. It comes from how freaked out she got from being kissed by Hank, mainly because she liked it more than she wants to admit.
But, rather than admit to her fiance about what happened with Hank or any trepidations she might have about their relationship, Sarah moves...

Prior to the final act of Tuesday night’s Parenthood, life was a mix of the typical drama we see in the Braverman household — Kristina (Monica Potter) missed Haddie (Sarah Ramos), Max (Max Burkholder) became consumed with getting a puppy, and Adam (Peter Kraus) wondered if the family could handle a new furry addition. Then, as if an empty mention, Kristina said she’d be late to the family’s puppy-buying appointment because she had an appointment of her own at the doctor’s office.

Parenthood Season 3 Spoilers: What's Next for the Bravermans?
When last we left Parenthood's Team Braverman, things were finally looking up a bit, with Crosby's, Adam's, and Sarah's relationships all recovering from earlier bumps in the road. Julia seemed to be moving on from the thought of adopting Zoe's baby, Amber was ready to get out of the food service industry, and Drew had finally poked his head out of his shell enough to get a girlfriend and some confidence. As much drama (and melodrama) as the Braverman family had dealt with in season 3, it looked as if the storm clouds had finally cleared a little.
But wait! This is Parenthood after all, so the final seven episodes of the season are bound to amp things up. That amping up looks to be starting with Braverman partiarch Zeek, generally a peripheral character that tends to pop up in other people's...

"Even when he's not great, he's still family."
Even though Sarah Braverman was referring to the re-emergence of her alcoholic ex-husband with this quote, she could have also been referring to Parenthood as a whole. The NBC family drama is often very, very good and sometimes great, but even when the show doesn't hit the highest of highs, these are people you enjoy spending time with. Just as there's always a kernel or two of goodness in every batch of family gatherings, no matter how high the dysfunction meter is turned up, every episode of Parenthood contains little moments and big emotion that make the series an extremely worthwhile time investment.
Luckily, the season's fifth episode, "Nora", was a whole lot of the good stuff with very little bad, as the show got to showcase why it's been so buzzed about online. For one, Adam Braverman has proven to be...

Now that "Friday Night Lights" has finally been recognized by the Emmy voters, we're going to start campaigning for NBC's touching family drama "Parenthood" as the most underrated, exquisite show that's deserving of far, far more awards attention.
On tonight's "Parenthood," the Braverman family will invite a new member into the mix. We just hope that baby girl is enjoying her last peaceful moments, because once she pops into the world, she's going to discover that being a Braverman comes with a whole lot of baggage.
In the meantime, we've already watched tonight's amazing episode, so here are the top five reasons you should, too.
1. Adam Braverman (Peter Krause) "hips it up." After Crosby (Dax Shepard) asks his big brother to loosen up his tie for their meeting with a hip hop star, Adam takes things just a little bit too far. Actually, sorry, we're going to need to amend that.

Pretty much everything has been turned on its head since we last visited Mystic Falls, Virginia, but it's a testament to The Vampire Diaries' consistently strong writing and acting that it already feels so normal.
Call it a new, bloody normal.
From the opening sequence to a vintage Tvd shocker just before the the credits rolled, "The Birthday" was a wild ride, one that reaffirmed why the series has become a personal favorite and one of TV's best.
My great fear has been that the producers will take too many creative liberties, given the endless possibility offered by the genre, and deviate from the compelling characters and story arcs that define the show.
One episode into Season 3, consider those fears assuaged.
We knew after last season's finale that Stefan would enter a dark period, but boy, they didn’t waste any time prepping us for what he's become. The switch has been flipped,...

Lauren Graham had a great summer vacation in Venice in between seasons of 'Parenthood,' but she'd rather not say too much about it. It's not that she's too private a person, it's just that her boyfriend is Peter Krause, who plays Adam Braverman, her TV brother, on 'Parenthood.' She thought that might be too much for the Friday morning audience on 'Today' (weekdays, 7Am on NBC).
"I went with my boyfriend, I just don't like to talk about it because I don't want to freak people out," said Graham. It was pointed out to her that Krause is her brother. "Oh my god! Wait! What? Look, it's America. My boyfriend is my brother. You can do anything you want."

The Bottom Three
1. Chuck: Christ, someone put this show out of its misery. Timothy Dalton was fun for awhile, but now he's old hat. Plus, how many times are they going to reset this goddamn show? Also, a prenup episode? Yes, it seems, "Chuck" will move through every single step in the relationships process. What's left now? A bachelor party? An episode on the vows? Another episode about the wedding night? I'm exhausted with this show.
2. Castle: I still really like the sweeps month episodes, when they shake things up a little. But the regular procedural episodes have become painfully predictable, so much so that last week, I watched the first ten minutes, took a guess as to who the killer was, and fast-forwarded to the last five minutes for the reveal and this week's incremental progression on Kate and Castle's love relationship. And I was right on who the killer was,...

Parenthood hasn’t been on in forever, you guys. I know, I know, it’s only been a 3 week or so break, but it has felt like the Braverman family has been on a vacay for months on end. Not to worry, Parenthood fans, because they’re back! Yes, Team Braverman returns to the airwaves tonight at 10:00 on NBC for the final four episodes of its second season, so you know what that means?
Time to catch up!
For those of you who have been meaning to try Parenthood and can never seem to make time or those who are several episodes behind, you’re in luck. I’m going to lay out the most important storylines of the season, along with a few periphery stories that could always pop up and yet another reminder of when to watch so you can be right up to speed with the rest of us.

Before we begin our review of Parenthood, I would just like to state that nothing tops last week's scene showcasing Adam Braverman as the cutest stoner in all the land.
I love Adam for the patriarch that he is, but to see my future husband involuntarily let loose was a treat. Ilyab.
I missed Camille this episode. Where was my voice of reason when Zeek pushed Seth against the car? And wasn't Zeek the one who called Seth a few episodes ago to tell him that he needs to call his son? I'm not pointing fingers, just saying...
Meanwhile, Michael Emerson guest-starred as an adult with Asberger's syndrome hired to perform a bug show for Max's birthday.
I can't believe Adam and Kristina didn't realize that Andy had Asberger's right away. For people who are around it all day, every day, they're not as sharp as I thought they were.

Since Valentine’s Day is approaching, we’ve decided it’s time to crown TV’s Most Datable Characters. Here’s how this works: As we did in 2008, we are asking you to name the TV character you’d actually date in real life. The rules remain the same:
1. Hosts or reality TV contestants of any kind are disqualified. The relationship you’re creating is real; your better half must be fictional.
2. You can’t change anything about your partner — other than that he or she will no longer have feelings for the show love interest, obviously.
Here’s what’s different: This year,...

Believe it, Parenthood fans: Adam Braverman gets high on February 1.
Granted, this isn't the intention of the straight-laced character, but that simply makes the results (previewed below) that much more entertaining. Among other developments ahead when the drama returns:
Haddie moves in with her grandparents. Sarah demands a raise. A snag befalls Zeek and Max's camping trip. Julia plans Jasmine's bachelorette party.
A House Divided Promo
What did you think of the most recent Parenthood episode? Sadly, it didn't register on our critic's Teardrop Scale.

As far as realistic, human emotional drama goes, the two best shows on television right now are "Parenthood" and "Friday Night Lights." Both shows have several things in common: They are both produced by the same man, Jason Katims; they both deal with good, well-meaning people trying to make the right decisions; they both revolve around loving, supportive families; and both shows consistently make me want to be a better person.
I can't say that about any other show on television.
Both shows are grounded in real, natural drama, and for the most part eschew soap-opera dramatics (putting aside the first half of the second season of "Friday Night Lights"). Everything feels earnest and real in their particular universes, and both can extract deep emotional angst out of the smallest narrative turns.
"Parenthood," now in its second season, has come a long ways since its crowd-pleasing but somewhat contrived pilot episode.

NBC's "Parenthood," now beginning its second season, is one of the most warm and affectionate television dramas I've ever has the pleasure of viewing. There's not a character in the amazing ensemble cast that I don't like. Everyone is endearing, and -- over the course of the series so far -- has been fairly well fleshed out (although, Joel and Julia are lagging behind a little). There's not an episode that I've seen where, by the end of it, I didn't want to have another child, or six.
That's maybe the best compliment I could give the show: "Parenthood" makes me want to breed. It makes me long for a large, close-knit full of problems but lacking in dysfunction.
It's taken me this long to review "Parenthood" because there's a part of me that wants to keep my relationship with this show to myself. There's also another part of me...

In a recent interview with Redbook magazine, Lauren Graham confessed that she and her "Parenthood" co-star Peter Krause are an item. The couple play siblings Sarah and Adam Braverman on the NBC family drama. Rumors had been floating around that the two were dating, but they decided to keep it under wraps until now. "Nobody knew about it for awhile, because we like to be at home, cooking and not going out," Graham told Redbook in the Oct. issue on sale Sept. 21. "I've also been really protective of it, because it's important that you can buy us as...

The executive producer of Parenthood has revealed details of the new season. Speaking to The TV Addict, Jason Katims explained that he wants to examine Adam Braverman's career in more detail. "One of the things we didn't have an opportunity to do much in the first season is introduce more of Adam Braverman's life at work," he said. "So he'll get a new employee who is a real pain in the ass. That's his sister, Sarah, who starts working! "And also we're introducing his boss, Billy Baldwin, who is going to do an ongoing arc in the show. So we're going to sort of talk more about that." Katims added that Haddie will get a new love interest who will "challenge them in a different way", while Julia will battle her "control issues" and discuss whether to have (more)...

NBC's "Parenthood" could already fill a small commuter plane with what has to be one of the largest (and best) regular ensemble casts on television, but that doesn't mean that the second year family dramedy can't still find room for more guest stars on the call sheet. On Tuesday (July 27), the "Parenthood" creative team revealed to a visiting cadre of reporters from the Television Critics Association that Billy Baldwin is joining the cast for this season in a recurring role as Adam Braverman's (Peter Krause) boss. Is anyone else as wrecked as I am after watching Parenthood? Of the first six episodes of the NBC family drama, no fewer than five of them have brought me to tears. Sometimes it's just a little liquid pooling in my eye; other times I'm talking full-fledged streaming-down-the-cheeks waterworks. Never in my life has a TV show affected me so viscerally and so consistently. I don't think I'm particularly emotionally unstable right now; rather, it's a testament to how truthful and well-acted this series is. Usually my tears spring from some plot line involving Peter Krause's harried husband and father,...

Peter Krause's latest role is neither dirty nor inherently sexy. Instead, he has been cast as Adam Braverman — aka what we are calling "the Steve Martin role" — in NBC's Parenthood pilot based on the 1989 movie. Sarah Ramos (American Dreams) will play Krause's TV daughter, who actually was a son on the big screen. Yeah, this project is sounding more and more like "inspired by" than "based on." Also on board for Friday Night Lights creator Jason Katims' adaptation of the film is ER fave Maura Tierney ...
