This sweltering evening in London town saw the return of one of the brightest stars in the cinematic sky. Director Edgar Wright brought his latest film to the capital and we were there to meet him and the cast on the red carpet of Baby Driver.
The new film from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz man Edgar Wright stars Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Ansel Elgort, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Eliza Gonzalez, Cj Jones, Jon Bernthal, Lanny Joon, and Paul Williams which is a ridiculously good cast. They are elevated in the film by Baby’s Driver secret weapon – the soundtrack. You can see the full tracklist below, and will no doubt have enjoyed the kinetically pleasing trailers. Wright’s command of editing and his keen ear for cinematically apposite music is put to full use in the film, and you can read our 5 star review of the film right here.

The Guardians of the Galaxy films are famous for incorporating classic tracks into the films' scenes and narrative -- nothing beats watching Kurt Russell talk his way through 'Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)' by Looking Glass. James Gunn is not the only director who very carefully considers every track, writes to the music he has picked, and seamlessly weaves it into his films. Edgar Wright has been obsessed with his musical choices since his TV show Spaced, with the following soundtracks for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End, and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World all including some pretty deep cuts that make for fine listening, long after you've seen the film.
Baby Driver is Wright's next film, and the latest trailer not only included 'Tequila' by The Champs, but was also titled "Official TeKillYah Trailer" to put further emphasis on the music. The trailer also sports...

Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver couldn’t very well have a limp wristed soundtrack to pound the ears of our fast paced getaway driver so who better to lend a few musical strings than the likes of Queen, Blur, Beck and (obviously) Simon and Garfunkel.

The onus falls heavily on a music based theme and heavy weights tracks are needed to help Baby (Ansel Elgort) in order to time bank robbery getaways with beat perfect precision. In “Baby Driver,” Ansel Elgort plays a getaway driver who constantly has music playing in order to drown out his tinnitus. And, like “Drive” before it, that music seems to be an integral part of the experience in Edgar Wright’s upcoming film, which premiered at SXSW to strong reviews.
“Baby Driver” doesn’t arrive in theaters until later this month, but the tracklist to its soundtrack (which includes three different songs with the word “baby” in the title) is now available courtesy of NME:...

Newswire: Run The Jewels and Danger Mouse team up for the first song from the Baby Driver soundtrack
Edgar Wright has made it abundantly clear that his next movie, Baby Driver, will place a special emphasis on its soundtrack, courtesy of a hero who choreographs his own driving stunts with classic tracks like Golden Earring’s “Radar Love.” But Ansel Elgort’s MP3 player isn’t just filled with ’70s Dutch hits, either, as Wright revealed a new song from the soundtrack today, with “Chase Me” featuring contributions from Danger Mouse, Run The Jewels, and Big Boi.
Sampling and remixing “Bellbottoms,” from the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (which also features heavily in the film), the track offers up the propulsive rhymes and rhythms you need when you’ve got Kevin Spacey and a semi-psychotic Jamie Foxx breathing down your neck. Baby Driver slides into theaters on June 28, while the soundtrack will release via Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records. (Meanwhile, according to Pitchfork, both Rtj’s Killer ...

The third season finale of The Americans, and really the whole season in general, is a test of faith. Where seasons 1 and 2 ended with car chases, bullets, and major twists, tonight’s finale was among the most, if not the most muted episodes the show has ever done. There’s no Peter Gabriel or Golden Earring on the soundtrack tonight, and Nathan Barr’s score is used almost exclusively to enhance moments of pained contemplation. About the only time your pulse is meant to accelerate during “March 8, 1983” is when Baklanov is doing some brainstorming.
I suspect some viewers will leave tonight’s finale feeling unsatisfied by the down tempo nature the season took on. For as dark and grim as many of the deaths were, they were fewer and further between than in years past. Operations became more infrequent while others stretched on over weeks, and as an action showcase,...

"The Americans" just concluded its second season in spectacular fashion. I interviewed producers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields about season 2, and I have a review of the finale coming up just as soon as I want to punch you in the face if you say one more thing about nonviolent resistance... "Paige is your daughter, but she's not just yours. She belongs to the cause. And to the world. We all do." -Claudia A great season of television doesn't require a great finish. I had an issue or two with the conclusion of "Breaking Bad," but taken as a whole, those last eight episodes make up a unit for the time capsule. Similarly, the "True Detective" finale wasn't my favorite episode of that series, but I'm going to be parked at the front of the line to watch season 2. But when you have a great season of television that also ends great?...

The Americans Season 2, Episode 13 “Echo”
Written by Joel Fields & Joe Weisberg
Directed by Daniel Sackheim
Aired 5/22/14 on FX
There couldn’t be a better song choice to open The Americans‘s second season finale than Golden Earring’s “Twilight Zone”. Not only does it add atmosphere to the situation unfolding, but it speaks metaphorically to every running plot of the season, right down to the most important question it asks over and over: “Where am I to go now that I’ve come too far?” Every character has to face this question at some point during the events of “Echo” (and for characters like Emmett and Leann, even earlier) – and as “Twilight Zone” so succinctly points out, “soon you will know/when the bullet hits the bone.”
And boy, do bullets hit bones throughout the episode (especially “when the hitman comes/he knows damn well he been cheated”, as sung...

Kings of Leon have now introduced two songs from their new album "Mechanical Bull." "Supersoaker" was the first single, swooning over sentimental girls. This new track "Wait for Me," has the band slowing their gait to mid-tempo. For the latter, it kicks off like a slower version of "Twilight Zone" -- no, not the theme song to the show, but the Golden Earring mega-hit from 1982. While we're jumping decades, it pounces all over late-'90s mainstream rockers, with lyrics earnestly, timelessly generic. This is a harmless, safe passage toward radio, but doesn't pop like "Use Somebody" or "Crawl" did previously. Then...

Fringe will bring five years of brainy-bizarre and emotionally engaging storytelling to a close this season with an epic yarn that can be summed up in a word: Observageddon. Joshua Jackson couldn’t be more psyched. “The last great untold story we have is the Observers’ story,” says the actor, who plays the temporally displaced alt-reality orphan Peter Bishop on Fox’s Friday night cult fave. “Just from a geek standpoint, going into the future and telling their tale is super-cool. … There’s going to be some knock-your-socks-off revelations.”

American Idol‘s Season 11 Top 12 are set to cover the frequently traversed theme of “Songs From the Year You Were Born” tonight. (Way to cook up new and exciting ideas, Uncle Nigel)! I’m already saying a novena that Jessica Sanchez won’t get stuck in the Thia Megia ghetto (aka singing “Colors Of The Wind”) and that Joshua Ledet won’t be offering up Idol‘s eighth rendition of “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” in 11 seasons. Following in the footsteps of D.A. Pennebaker, Terry Gilliam, David Lynch, Spike Lee, and Todd Haynes, Control and The American helmer Anton Corbijn will take some time out of his schedule to direct a streaming concert for American Express’ Unstaged series. Getting the treatment this time around is Coldplay, who are on tour for their latest album, Mylo Xyloto.
This is nothing new for the Dutch filmmaker, since he got started as a director with music videos for groups like U2 and Golden Earring; he’s recently worked with bands such as — look at that! — Coldplay. Talking to The New York Times, Corbijn expressed an admiration for the venue holding the concert, Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid, calling it a “fantastic place” for a show. If you’re interested in watching, you can stream it at this location on Wednesday, October 26th at 4 P.M. Eastern Standard Time.

'Hobo With a Shotgun' star Rutger Hauer returns to his Dutch roots for 'The Heineken Kidnapping,' based on the actual abduction of the heir to the famous brewery.
In 1983, Alfred Heineken and his driver were kidnapped and held captive for three weeks. The film not only tells the story of the kidnapping, but of Heineken's revenge, as he pursues his three kidnappers around the world. The synopsis for the American Film Market says it "focuses on the psychological power struggle between the successful and charismatic beer brewer and a ruthless young criminal with a grudge."
We'll buy that. Hauer looks like the Godfather with a glass of beer in the poster, doesn't he?

If Hobo With a Shotgun made you aware that Rutger Hauer is still an actor with a lot of life left in him, The Heineken Kidnapping might be a film you want to watch out for in the days to come. The Dutch film tells the story of Alfred Heineken, the man who made Heineken beer a household name (with a little help from David Lynch) and who was kidnapped for three weeks in 1983. Maarten Treurniet has crafted this thriller that chronicles those weeks, and the trailer (not in English, sadly) will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect, should the film ever make it to the States. This is a stylish-looking movie and, as Twitch [1] put it when posting the trailer, a bit slick. But I'm curious, mostly because I love the intensity Hauer is bringing to some of his roles lately. This is also a story I knew nothing about,...

Captain Kirk is headed back to space.
William Shatner, the Emmy winning TV icon, announced the track listing and details for his new space-inspired cover album, Searching For Major Tom. The album will feature a large number of heavy metal covers, as well as songs by U2, Frank Sinatra, Queen and Pink Floyd.
Shatner has had a storied music career, producing confusing, parodied yet somehow enlightening song covers and original bits over the past 40+ years. His first album, The Transformed Man, raised eyebrows with its bizarre covers, which, in what would become his trademark style, boasted dramatic readings of lyrics over music. HIs best known track was a recording of Sonny & Cher's "Mr. Tambourine Man." Check out Urlesque's ranking of his ten best cover songs here.

William Shatner, 80, is not done rocking out. Later this year -- no specific date has been set, but don't worry, we'll keep you updated -- the actor-singer-spoken word artist plans to release a new album, "Searching for Major Tom." It's a cornucopia of corny covers all orbiting around one central theme: space.
But unlike Shatner's live one-man performance classics, the Shat has enlisted some big time help. Bootsy Collins lends a hand on Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science." Brad Paisley sings along on Steve Miller's "Space Cowboy," Peter Frampton sits in on "Spirit in the Sky," and even Toots of Toots and the Maytals is adding his vocals to The Police's "Walking on the Moon."

On this day in 1959, Rod Serling and CBS introduced us to a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call... the Twilight Zone.
The Twilight Zone ran for five seasons on CBS, then entered the dimension of infinite reruns to this very day-- often with rerun marathons on July 4th and New Years Eve in local markets, a tradition that extends to its current home on the Syfy Channel.
