Chicago – Theatrical satires of the Star Wars Universe are like the number of TV series the universe has wrought … too many to figure out if anything is worthwhile. But “Trade Federation” (subtitled “Or Let’s Explore Globalization Through the Star Wars Prequels”), presented by Otherworld Theatre in Wrigleyville Chicago, gets it right on. By inculcating the dreary prequel trilogy (1999-2005) with geopolitics, it meshes the love of Star Wars with a smart new generation of artists who use it for inspiration and evolution. It has a short run through May 13th, click Trade Fed for tickets and dates.

The Young and the Restless introduced Kyle Abbott in 2001 as the son of Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Diane Jenkins (Maura West). A slew of toddlers played the character for the first three years, but then he vanished from Genoa City for a while. In 2010, Kyle Abbott returned and was initially portrayed by Garrett Ryan. He held the role for two years before the character was recast to Blake Hood. After that, Hartley Sawyer snagged the role in 2013. Lachlan Buchanan made a splash with his version of Kyle Abbott from 2015 to 2016. After he left Genoa […]

ABC has proven itself capable of delivering creatively strong comedies over the years, though almost all of them don’t last long (see: the late, lamented Trophy Wife, underrated gem Suburgatory, gone-too-soon Happy Endings, very funny Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, subversive Better Off Ted and, looking back further, cult classic Pushing Daisies). It’s too early to tell whether Selfie, starring Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame, will join that lineup of strongly written, low-rated comedies, but the pilot episode shows some promise, despite a few missteps.
Centering on Eliza Dooley (Gillan), a self-obsessed sales rep in her early twenties, Selfie takes aim at the general public’s crippling addiction to social media. Eliza is “Insta-famous,” having amassed 263,000 followers across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Out of those ‘friends,’ though, she can only claim to know a select few. Everything about Eliza is built for public consumption,...

Something new in Mystic Falls this week... a hostage crisis with the Salvatores fighting about how to solve it! I kid, but "The Vampire Diaries" is feeling a bit recycled. Will Episode 4.05, "The Killer," be able to reverse the trend? Here are a preview and clip that offer some clues.

A new batch of mixed blood is arriving on The Vampire Diaries this fall season in the form of new hybrids under the control of everyone’s favorite villain, Klaus. What does this mean for everyone else? To be honest, I’m not all that sure. Things are always so crazy and twisting every which way on this show that it becomes hard to guess just how things are going to play out. There are so many factors to take into consideration and nothing is ever static; everything becomes a variable when a show chews through plot the way Vampire Diaries does. Still, it won’t hurt to take a look at who’s going to be playing the new hybrids.

I've enjoyed the Klaus story-line as much as the next person, but seriously, can we move on? Half of the second season centered around The Originals and a majority of the third season did as well. Surely the writers can turn their focus to something else, something more fresh? According to reports, Blake Hood and Alyssa Diaz have signed for the new season of The Vampire Diaries to play hybrids of Klaus, with Hood in the fifth episode and Diaz in the sixth. We learned that Klaus was in Tyler's body during last season's finale and he'll apparently have some fun with Caroline in the upcoming season. We're anxious to see how Klaus reacts when he discovers Elena is a vampire. Oh yeah, and a new vampire hunter is coming to down. Those vampire hunters always show Mystic Falls a good time. Keep it right here for more Vampire Diaries...

The Secret‘s out: Chris Zylka will no longer take part in American Horror Story‘s second chapter, subtitled Asylum.
As previously reported, the Secret Circle alum booked an arc as a deaf, mute hottie on the FX drama back in June. However, Zap2it has learned that Zylka has been quietly dismissed from the role after he refused to shave his head for the two-episode arc.
Asylum — which debuts Oct. 17 — has reportedly reduced the role to a one-episode guest spot in the wake of the actor’s ouster.
Since Secret Circle‘s cancellation, Zylka has appeared on the big screen in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Blake Hood and Alyssa Diaz have landed intriguing roles on The Vampire Diaries Season 4.
According to TV Guide, the actor (90210, The Young and the Restless) and actress (The Nine Lives of Chloe King, Army Wives) will both interact often with Klaus this fall, coming on board The CW smash as a pair hybrids named Dean and Kimberly.
Hood will debut on Episode 5, while Diaz will first shows up on Episode 6.
The last time viewers saw Klaus, of course, he wasn't really Klaus. He was hanging out in Tyler's body, unbeknownst to everyone except Bonnie. Julie Plec, however, has said it won't be long until the characters are switched back.
The Vampire Diaries returns with new installments on October 11.

Klaus' clan of hybrid werewolf-vampires is growing, "Vampire Diaries" fans! At the end of last season, he nearly drained Elena of all of her doppelganger blood -- and now he's putting that blood to good use as he creates some new hybrid monsters to support him in the new season.
"The Young and the Restless" star Blake Hood and Alyssa Diaz of "Nine Lives of Chloe King" fame have been tapped to star as Klaus's newest minions, appearing in Episode 5 and Episode 6 respectively. Dean and Kimberly are under Klaus's control due to their sire bond with him, so there's no telling the damage they'll cause. The casting was first reported by TVGuide.

The L.A. Complex
It’s no secret that I am tired of coming out stories, but I am really enjoying Kal’s struggle with his sexuality. Maybe because even though it’s riddled with the usual clichés, it’s somewhat different in that it’s being told with a person of color This is a definite rarity and we’re getting a glimpse into the world of rap and how that plays into Kal’s hatred over his sexuality. It helps that Andra Fuller is doing a wonderful job in the role.
I loved his initial scene with the doctor where he saw to it that he didn’t have to leave the hospital and face the world again by confessing his continued suicidal thoughts, but I was disappointed that we didn’t get more interaction with Kal, his doctor and the other people in the hospital.

Actor Brad Dourif is most commonly known for his roles in genre fare such as Exorcist 3, Grim Prairie Tales, and the Child’s Play series. In more recent years Dourif has expanded his repertoire on television with roles in Deadwood and Law & Order, but that hasn’t stopped him returning to the more creepy roles with which he made his name, such as in his latest movie Death and Cremation.
The debut of director Justin Steele, Death and Cremation is from a script by Alecc Bracero and Justin Steele, and stars Dourif along with Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights), Scott Elrod, Debbon Ayer (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Daniel Baldwin (Homicide: Life on the Street), and Staci Keenan (My Two Dads, Step by Step) in a story that takes place:

In the interests of full disclosure I will admit up front that I am a pretty big fan of Brad Dourif and love his performances in otherwise terrible films.
In addition to some questionable film choices, Dourif has recently done solid work in a number of Werner Herzog films and is probably still picking up pay checks for supplying the voice of Chucky in the Childs Play films.
He recently had a small part in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans and even managed to stand out there, against the wild eyed crazed performance by Nicholas Cage.
Brad Dourif is now playing a role that was surely made for him, a creepy funeral owner in a new thriller, Death and Cremation.
Death and Cremation is the feature film debut of Justin Steele, who in addition to directing also co-wrote the film. The film was shot on the Red One by cinematographer Akis Konstantakopoulos. Although the plot doesn’t sound that exciting...

I simply don't think there is enough Brad Dourif in cinema, or else I am looking in the wrong places. Instantly recognizable, Dourif has shown up in all sorts of genres and notable works so it is good to see him once again, this time in a new horror/thriller Death and Cremation.
In Crest Point, people go about their day-to-day lives with no sense of urgency and standard stereotypes abound. There's the high school bully with the popular girlfriend. The single mother raising her son after her husband has died. The detective who's never cracked a big case. Then there's Stan (Brad Dourif), a single 59 year old recluse who contributes to society by offering cremation services from the basement of his funeral home. Jarod Leary (Jeremy Sumpter), a bullied and fatherless 17-year-old high school outcast doesn't even try to fit in with his high school peers. Dressed in black,...

When 90210 wrapped up its first season in May, Annie appeared to be in major trouble: she ran someone over and fled the scene.
But that's not the only issue this character will face when new episodes begin this week. Annie will be involved a nude photo scandal! Here's how it will go down:
Wilson will hook up with Mark Driscoll at a beach club party, a high school football player played by Blake Hood. As the little-known actor told E! News about the development:
"We get together and I do something I shouldn't have done. I take a picture of her that I probably shouldn't have taken and oops, guess what? It gets around a little bit."
Don't be surprised if Naomi gets a hold of the photo and blackmails her former friend with it. Juicy!
Despite his part he plays in the storyline, Hood says his character tries to...

When the new season of 90210 premieres on Tuesday, we'll find Annie (Shenae Grimes) still dealing with her prom-night hit-and-run. But that's not all she's going to have to worry about. A beach-club-party hookup with West Beverly Hills High School senior and football star Mark Driscoll, played by newcomer Blake Hood, leads to a scandal that appears to have been ripped from any number of Hollywood headlines. "We get together and I do something I shouldn't have done," Hood tells me. Uh-oh. Read on for more of the dramarama details...
