Stories of scandal are scattered throughout each episode of The Crown's second season, and the ups and downs of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's relationship are one of the show's central points. Show creator Peter Morgan tiptoes around this issue as he alludes to the prince's infidelity - and for good reason. With so much at stake, he definitely doesn't want to jeopardize the queen's opinion of the show. In The Crown we see Philip struggling with his new title; his Navy days now behind him, he is solely a husband and consort to the queen. Trying to find his place, we see him running around town with his best friend and private secretary, Mike Parker. The queen clearly has her suspicions about Philip's extracurricular activities, but chooses not to confront him. Things get heated before Philip leaves on tour to open the Olympic Games in Australia...

Image Source: Netflix The Crown has hooked fans all over the world onto the story of Queen Elizabeth II's road to he throne, as well as her personal life once she became the Queen of England. In season two of the hit Netflix series, we've seen a lot more about the queen's relationship with Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and it's intense. While a TV show is simply a show, and not real life, this series does touch upon a lot of real events that have been documented throughout history. This season, at least in the first few episodes, the show has told the story of the queen (played by Claire Foy) and Philip (played by Matt Smith) as they spend time apart - five months while he's traveling for the crown - and rumors begin to surface about him having an affair, especially when his right-hand man,...

Though serialized overall, “The Crown” is a notable Netflix series in that it regularly delivers impeccably strong episodic arcs. Episodes stand out on their own and often feel constructed as a time capsule for that specific story. Season 2 continues this tradition, and IndieWire will explore select episodes via individual reviews. After all, the best standalone episodes deserve standalone analyses. Below, we take a look at Episode 2, “A Company of Men.”
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Crown” Season 2.]
Just because a character is unlikable — or downright repugnant — doesn’t mean he’s a bad character. The soon-to-be Prince Philip, after the third episode of Season 2, is the epitome of this conundrum. Many viewers complained about Matt Smith’s character in the first season, though few were mad enough to fault the actor’s performance (and they shouldn’t, given how wholly Smith gives himself to the role). They just didn’t like him, especially compared to the vastly...

Image Source: Getty / Keystone Prince Philip officially retired from royal duties this week. The 96-year-old leaves behind quite a legacy of appearances, engagements, and yes, a few controversies; he's become well-known over the years for his off-the-cuff remarks and sometimes insensitive gaffes, but he still remains a charming and gregarious presence. Philip is quite literally the queen's right-hand man, staying by her side at hundreds of events for royal charities while also enjoying personal hobbies like carriage racing and oil painting. Here are 12 things you may not have known about him. Related11 Things You Didn't Know About Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's Royal Relationship He was a prince before he married Elizabeth II. ‘Fargo’ Chapter 3: Ewan McGregor and Carrie Coon on Dual Roles, the Accent and Those Character Names
While “Fargo” Chapter 3 will blow “kisses” to past installments, expect a totally new story when Noah Hawley’s Coen-inspired series returns in April.
Stars Ewan McGregor, Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, David Thewlis and Michael Stuhlbarg have only been shooting the third installment of FX’s Emmy-winning limited series for a week, but they, along with executive producer Warren Littlefield, still took the time to come by the TCA Winter Press Tour and reveal a little bit of information about what we can expect from this newest iteration.
Set in 2010, the show promises to take on issues like social media in the modern world, as Littlefield explained. (Hawley was scheduled to appear on the panel, but bowed out due to illness.) “Carrie has a scene where she’s on a plane and she looks around and everyone has their heads down,” he said. “No one’s talking, no one’s communicating.

Written by: Nick Damici, Jim Mickle, Jorge Michel Grau (original screenplay)
Cast: Bill Sage (Frank Parker), Ambyr Childers (Iris Parker), Julia Garner (Rose Parker), Wyatt Russell (Deputy Anders), Michael Parks (Doc Barrow), Kelly McGillis (Marge)
I chose “We are what we are” without knowing it was a remake, and maybe that’s best. Just a random selection from sometimes hit and sometimes miss Netflix recommendations. I just knew that it was about a family of cannibals by reading the synopsis that appears when I hovered the cursor over it. Instead of being horrified throughout, I got that feeling you get when you are an outside spectator to an awkward family conversation. Because first and foremost this is a film is about family. It’s almost a story about a family adjusting after a tragic loss.

Los Angeles — Giant coffee table books, iPod Shuffles, signed letters from directors, even "Lincoln" turkey roasting pans. That's just some of the largesse doled out by the studios to voters for awards presented earlier this season – each with the potential to influence the outcome of Hollywood's most important awards, Sunday night's Oscars.
Such gifts are strictly forbidden by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. But for studios, the stakes are high, and they've been creative in working around the rules to give their movies the best spotlight possible. A best picture win can boost a film's commercial appeal and solidify relations with big-name actors and directors.
This year, top Oscar contenders "Argo" from Warner Bros. and "Lincoln" from Disney pitted two deep-pocketed rivals against each other in what some say was an unprecedented level of Oscar campaigning. There was even some targeted sniping about the films' bending of historical facts.

It's still January, but already Detroit is looking forward to a weekend in the middle of May, when sweaty music lovers will crowd Hart Plaza for the city's annual electronic music festival, Movement.
The thumping bass and substance-fueled (so we've heard) event, which will take place May 25, 26 and 27, has already released the Phase One lineup. And there's some very notable names, like Carl Craig and Derrick May.
Tickets are already available on the Movement website, where they're counting down the days (114, in case you were wondering), hours, minutes and seconds until the sound of techno techno fills the air. Relive the madness from last year -- and get ready for Movement 2013 -- with help from the pulse-quickening trailer posted above. A text list of Phase One performers follows, if you're into that sort of thing. Are you looking forward to the electronic music festival, or will you be avoiding Hart Plaza?...

Los Angeles — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it would not seek criminal charges and has closed its investigation into a rapper's tweet that prompted hundreds of calls to a sheriff's station, jamming phone lines for hours.
Capt. Mike Parker said Wednesday that the department decided to drop the matter after conducting an investigation and consulting with the district attorney's office. He also welcomed an apology the rapper, known as The Game, made to the department.
"His willingness to help share with the media and the community that the safety of the public is what is most important is a great message," Parker said in a statement.
The tweet posted on The Game's Twitter account on Friday encouraged his 580,000 followers to call a number if they wanted an internship.

Los Angeles, California (X17online) -- Rapper The Game is in trouble with the Los Angeles sheriff's office after Tweeting out a phone number that jammed the office's emergency phone lines. The Game Tweeted to his 580,000 followers a phone number, saying they should call if they wanted an internship. The calls jammed a Compton office's emergency phone lines for two hours on Friday. "This was beyond irresponsible," sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker told the Los Angeles Times. "The deputies' ability to answer the phones and dispatch personnel to help these people in danger was significantly impeded." The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department are considering misdemeanor charges against the rapper. The office says the jam resulted in delayed responses to cases including a missing person, a spousal assault, two robberies and a stolen car, according to reports. The Game says the Tweet was an accident. He responded, "Yall can track a...
