Those good folks over at Well Go USA Entertainment have announced their acquisition of Jamie M. Dagg's River, the Canadian thriller set and shot in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year.River stars Rossif Sutherland (half-brother of Kiefer) as an American doctor volunteering in the North of Laos, who becomes a fugitive after attempting to break up the sexual assault of a young woman. Also starring Ted Atherton (Max Payne), Sara Botsford (The Fog), and Vitaya Pansringarm (Only God Forgives), River was produced by Nick Sorbara, whose previous credits include Bruce McDonald's excellent Pontypool, and Mattie Do, director of the recently wrapped Beloved Sister and Chanthaly, Laos' first ever horror film. The London-based distributor will commence international sales in Toronto on Jamie M Dagg’s imminent world premiere.
Xyz Films represents Us sales and Elevation Pictures holds Canadian rights to the thriller starring Rossif Sutherland as an American doctor on the run in Laos after he intervenes in a sexual assault and finds himself accused of murder.
The film will premiere in Discovery on September 15. Sara Botsford, Douangmany Soliphanh and Vithaya Pansringarm also star. Nick Sorbara produced and Todd Brown, Mattie Do and David Miller served as executive producers.
This is a potentially breakout festival for Sutherland, who also stars in Canadian war film and upcoming Toronto world premiere Hyena Road.

Exclusive: Xyz Films has picked up North American sales rights to the thriller from debut writer-director Jamie M Dagg.
The story centres on a traumatised American volunteer doctor on leave in Laos who flees into the interior after he intervenes to help the victim of a sexual assault and kills the assailant.
Casting is underway on River, which is scheduled to commence principal photography in Laos and Thailand in January.
Nick Sorbara of Reach Me and Pontypool fame is producing via his RedLab Digital and Sanzhar Sultanov co-produces through his company Know Rules Media. Brillstein Entertainment’s Jai Khanna serves as executive producer.
