Chris Pine hopes he just found Luca Guadagnino’s next project: Disney’s “Princess Diaries 3.”
The actor and “Poolman” director proposed collaborating with the “Challengers” director for the third franchise installment during Entertainment Weekly’s Role Call Youtube series.
“‘Princess Diaries 3,’ where is it?’ Have you been reading my diary?” Pine quipped when revisiting his past roles. “I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything about it.”
However, Pine did have his own pitch for the film.
“You know, like, what it would be? It would be like a Luca Guadagnino film,” Pine said. “[If he] directs ‘Princess Diaries 3,’ now that is fucking fire.”
Of course, “Princess Diaries 3” would have to come after Guadagnino’s “Separate Rooms” with Lea Séydoux and Josh O’Connor. Guadagnino is also debuting “Queer” at Cannes 2024.

Anne Hathaway just might be returning to Genovia.
After “Princess Diaries 3” was confirmed in 2022, Hathaway recently told V magazine that development is “in a good place” at the moment.

Thankfully recovering after a brutal bout with Covid-19, Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev will return with Jupiter. Variety reports the “politically-minded movie” tells the story of “a Russian oligarch’s reckoning with the harsh reality of his family’s future,” with a shoot set in Spain and France this spring. “The nature of absolute power is a universal theme, and through this prism we can look at any cultural landscape or historical era,” the director said.
Following Summer 1993 and Alcarràs, Carla Simon is prepping a summer shoot for the final entry in her trilogy with the flamenco musical Romería. Speaking to Variety, the director said, “Since I discovered that my biological mother was passionate about flamenco, a great curiosity began to grow in me for this genre, because of its history and its exceptional capacity to connect directly with emotion.” She added “This time music and dance will become the challenge...

Deadline reports that Jaume Collet-Serra has signed on to direct Kate Warne for Amazon Studios and Seven Bucks Productions. Emily Blunt will produce through her Ledburry Productions banner and is also expected to star as Kate Warne, the American law enforcement officer known as the first female detective in the United States.
Emily Blunt won’t be able to finalize her deal to star in Kate Warne until the SAG-AFTRA strike concludes, but once it does, those conversations can resume. The project is described as an action thriller built around Warne, a “real-life Sherlock Holmes” figure who was the first female detective at the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and “paved the way for future woman in law enforcement and forever changed how detective work was done.“

“Black Adam” filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra has been hired by Amazon MGM Studios to direct a movie starring Emily Blunt as pioneering female detective Kate Warne.
Melissa Stack wrote the screenplay from a previous draft by Gustin Nash. The untitled film, described as a “propulsive action thriller,” centers around a real-life Sherlock Holmes-esque character. Kate Warne was the first female detective at the Pinkerton agency and, according to a release, paved the way for future women in law enforcement and forever changed how detective work was done.
Blunt, who will also produce the movie, hasn’t finalized her deal because of the actors strike, but conversations are expected to resume once the guild has a new pact.
Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia and Dany Garcia are producing via their company, Seven Bucks Productions. Kristina Sorensen is producing for With a K Productions. Kimberly Bialek will oversee for Seven Bucks Productions.

Sandra Oh would love to reprise her role as Vice Principal Gupta in the third installment of The Princess Diaries, which is currently in development.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, posted online Friday, the actress had a message for the film’s creative team about a potential return: “I am ready for the Queen. Call me! I’m dying to see how Gupta has moved up in the world.”
Last year, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that a new Princess Diaries movie was in the works at Disney. Hollywood star Julie Andrews, who played Clarisse Renaldi, the Queen regent of Genovia in ‘The Princess Diaries 3’, said that her participation in the new film might not happen. “I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible,” Andrews told Access Hollywood.
“It was talked about very shortly after (the second sequel) came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run,” reports ‘Deadline’.
The Princess Diaries originally came out in 2001 with Garry Marshall directing Andrews and Anne Hathway. The coming-of-age comedy was based on the popular Meg Cabot novel series with Mia Thermopolis, played by Anne Hathaway, at the center of the story.
Mia is a teenager from San Francisco who discovers that she is the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia.

Will the story of Princess Mia of Genovia be continuing?
That could be the case, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Disney has commissioned a new script for a third “Princess Diaries” movie. Screenwriter Aadrita Mukerji (“Supergirl” and “Quantum Leap“) is writing the script for the new film.
According to THR, the potential sequel won’t be a reboot, but a continuation of the story of American teenager Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) who discovers she’s heir to the throne of the European nation of Genovia and receives tutelage in all things royal by the country’s queen (Julie Andrews).

It’s not yet known whether Hathaway and Andrews — who are now 40 and 87, respectively — will be reprising their roles, although that appears to be the intention.
While Hathaway is reportedly not yet attached, she has stated her willingness to return to the role.

Though it pings on the news radar from time to time, there has been very little concrete development on a third The Princess Diaries film. And the death of Garry Marshall, who directed both the 2001 original and its 2004 sequel, subtitled Royal Engagement took the wind even more out of its sails. Yet Disney – which saw the first two films earn more than 300 million collectively at the box office and build a big fanbase — is not ready to let go of Genovia. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pieces are slowly falling into place for a third movie.
For those who might somehow be unaware, the Princess Diaries films adapt Meg Cabot's novel series, and focus on Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), a gawky San Francisco teenager who discovers that her late father was Crown Prince of a small European country called Genovia.

Miracles happen, once in awhile, when you believe! Today’s miracle is that a third “Princess Diaries” movie is in development.
According to an insider with knowledge of the project, “Supergirl” writer Aadrita Mukerji will pen the script for Disney, marking the third installment in the Anne Hathaway-led series. That said, Hathaway has not struck a deal to return yet, but has been openly supportive of the franchise continuing. Reps for Hathaway did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

The Princess of Genovia is back!
An individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire that a third “Princess Diaries” film is currently in early development. The script is being penned by Aadrita Mukerji (“Supergirl”), as The Hollywood Reporter first noted. The third film will serve as a continuation of the original film series as a sequel to the 2001 and 2004 movies starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.
No casting announcements have been made. Sources would not confirm whether Anne Hathaway will reprise her role, yet the “Princess Diaries” breakout star previously voiced her support for a proposed third film.
“I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it,” Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight in October 2022. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.

Once in a blue moon, a super sugary sweet movie comes along from Disney that screams the Mouse House.
In 2007, that movie was Enchanted with Amy Adams.
This year, it’s Godmothered with Jillian Bell and Isla Fisher, debuting on Disney+ for the whole world to bask in its joy.
Bell stars as Eleanor, who seems to be the only Fairy Godmother left in her community who believes they shouldn’t be demoted to the Tooth Fairy.
She still dresses in beautiful pink and carries her wand like an Englishman carrying tea. Eleanor has faith. Yet Moira (Jane Curtin) sees the writing on the wall.

Once upon a time, Disney had the market cornered on wholesome, pure-of-heart fairy tales — films like “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty” featuring fairy godmothers and charming princes. But somewhere along the way, academics and feminists and a new generation of ironically inclined kiddos realized the underlying message of these films wasn’t so magical, teaching young girls to be little more than passive wives. The Mouse House (as Variety referred to the studio at the time) was slow to address its shortcomings, while others stepped in — from “Shrek” to “The Fairly OddParents” — to parody the formula and push its politics into the 21st century.
A glorified TV movie debuting straight to the Disney Plus streaming platform, “Godmothered” is meant to signal to the world that Disney is in on the joke, an acknowledgement that “happily ever after” doesn’t necessarily follow a fairy-tale wedding, but is in fact a sign of lazy storytelling.

In “Godmothered,” a young fairy-godmother-in-training travels to the modern human world to save her fairy-tale existence. If that plot reminds you of “Enchanted,” then that’s clearly what the folks at Disney+ had in mind, down to the casting of Isla Fisher; Fisher is a talented actress in her own right, but at least as far back as “Nocturnal Animals,” she also seems to be in on the joke that Hollywood thinks of her as The Other Amy Adams.
For the most part, “Godmothered” is a mixed-bag of clever comedy and banal kid-movie clichés, but director Sharon Maguire (“Bridget Jones’ Baby”) and writers Kari Granlund (2019’s “Lady and the Tramp”) and Melissa Stack (“The Other Woman”) craft an ending that’s so emotionally and intellectually satisfying that it’s easy to forgive the film’s less magical attributes.

Only now, that young girl has grown into a woman (Fisher) who needs a fairy godmother to help her with more than just finding her Prince Charming.

Post-Bridesmaids, Hollywood is finally picking up on the fact that audiences want to see more female-led comedies. And since that landmark, there have been a few enjoyable flicks that have followed in its footsteps (the caustic Bachelorette and over-the-top buddy cop comedy The Heat come first to mind). Unfortunately, there have also been a few entries in the genre which one could fairly call regressive, whose female characters only relate to one another, or life as a whole, through men. The Other Woman, despite initial appearances, falls firmly into the latter category – in addition to being cheaply written, disappointingly stale and (worst of all) very guilty of squandering its two female leads.
That the film’s screenplay comes from a female writer – Melissa Stack, whose work here will undoubtedly secure her a long career in Hollywood – just heightens my confusion at The Other Woman‘s treatment of its lead characters.

In The Other Woman, Carly (Cameron Diaz) is a woman who knows what she wants. She’s got the job, she’s got the man and she’s on top of the world. Only, unbeknownst to her, that perfect man is married to Kate (Leslie Mann). Once she and Carly meet, they join forces to teach him a lesson. The Other Woman’s producer, Julie Yorn, had been looking for a comedic script for a strong female duo or ensemble when she discovered an idea by screenwriter Melissa K. ‘The Other Woman’ 2014 box office: Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann comedy to top North American box office chart despite mostly bad reviews (photo: Kate Upton, Cameron Diaz, and Leslie Mann in ‘The Other Woman’) Starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the Nick Cassavetes-directed comedy The Other Woman will easily top the North American box office this weekend, April 25-27, 2014. The story of three women who gang up to take revenge on their cheating husband/lover, The Other Woman — which would have been more accurately titled "The Other Women" — opened with a solid $9.3 million at 3,205 U.S. and Canadian locations on Friday, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. As the old saying goes, "If you give them trash, they’ll gobble it up (and ask for seconds)" — or something along those lines. Anyhow, 20th Century Fox’s $40 million-budgeted The Other Woman, which has...

While I can't say "The Other Woman" is a good movie, I can say that it features at least one thing that is genuinely worth seeing. The film that I kept thinking of as I watched this one was the Colin Higgins mega-hit "9 To 5," with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton teaming up to kick the living crap out of their chauvinist boss Dabney Coleman. While I'm not sure I'd feel like that film held up if I saw it now, it tapped a very potent sense of simmering outrage. It was a well-timed shot across the bow in the cultural conversation on changing roles for women in the workplace. "The Other Woman," on the other hand, is a largely ridiculous look at crappy rich white people who seem to have nothing to worry about besides what they do with their naughty bits. This is the feature debut of screenwriter Melissa Stack,...

For a film vaguely about female empowerment, The Other Woman has a cast that is sure to inspire a lot of husbands and boyfriends. The always-winning Leslie Mann (This is 40) plays a manic housewife who discovers that her wealthy husband (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is sleeping with a high-powered attorney (Cameron Diaz), who finds out that he’s also sleeping with a voluptuous Amazon (swimsuit supermodel Kate Upton), who learns that he might be three-timing her with yet another beautiful woman. Naturally, the trio team up to dish out some 9 to 5, The First Wives Club style revenge.

Chicago – Cameron Diaz has a firm grasp on her…image. She has carefully transitioned throughout her career from ingenue to comedienne to voiceover to the new film “The Other Woman.” But what begins as a sharp revenge comedy collapses into a bonding-sticky-sweet dullness.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
Diaz rules and controls the machinations of the movie, allowing the hilarious Leslie Mann to do most of the comedy gymnastics, and the results at first are bizarre and very funny. In a cheating husband story line, in which the wife and mistress become friends, it maybe best not to complicate the matter with yet another mistress (the model Kate Upton). Once Melissa K. Stack’s screenplay started adding on characters and complications, the purpose of the story was de-fanged, which was the eventual revenge on hubby. The film performs a classic jump-the-shark about half way through the 109 minute film.

Even those who are not well-versed with the American cinema of the 1970s have probably heard of writer/director John Cassavetes. He is considered the godfather of independent film in America, a figure who influenced low-budget filmmaking more than any other person not named Robert Redford. His films, which include Seconds and A Woman Under the Influence, are raw, revealing, semi-improvised explorations of marital life, sex, music, romance, suburban ennui, infidelity, aging and death.
However, the apple falls very far from the tree. John’s son, director Nick Cassavetes, is known for making sap, his filmography full of emotionally-charged titles like The Notebook, John Q and My Sister’s Keeper. However, with his latest film, the female revenge comedy The Other Woman, Nick transplants some of the plot elements from his father’s films – notably, Faces, about a man’s infidelity with a much younger woman – into a dumb, pathetic mess of slapstick miscues.

This dismal effort fails the Bechdel test generously as its female characters do little but worry and talk about the film's love rat
Mousy Wife (Leslie Mann) is cheated on by Love Rat Husband. He's secretly dating the One with the Career (Cameron Diaz) And the One with the Boobs (Kate Upton). Career finds out (ohhhh!), befriends Mousy (ahhhhh!), who recruits Boobs (ha ha ha!). Off they all go to teach Love Rat a lesson (Yay!). Melissa Stack's script chases laughs and catches cliches. Mann's kooky, Diaz is sassy. Upton does that Cat Daddy dance people on the internet liked so much.
Meanwhile, The Other Woman scrawls out a dumb dumb-feminist message with a big, fat marker pen. The women get revenge against the bad man. In the process they stalk him, worry about Loverat and talk about him incessantly. Hollywood 1 0 Bechdel.

The Other Woman is a movie of montages, music and quite a few well-placed punchlines as it's not exactly a home run comedy, but it's a solid double. Directed by Nick Cassavetes with a screenplay by relative newcomer, Melissa Stack, the film makes good use of its female leads and situations to find comedy in the emotional hurt caused by a cheating husband (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) as his wife (Leslie Mann) ends up teaming with two of his mistresses (Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton) for revenge. If The Other Woman lacks anything it's an editor with any kind of confidence, believing what they have here is actually funny. Not only does the film open with a montage, but it's overloaded with them and when it's not a montage, it's one song after another, several of which having nothing to do with what's going on. In fact, the music is a curious...

Though female centric comedies have been something of a triumph of late, with the likes of Bridesmaids illuminating the big screen and TV series such as Girls doing much of the same on the smaller one, regrettably Nick Cassavetes’ The Other Woman misfires, playing up to the notion of empowerment in an all too contrived, and cliched fashion.

The Other Woman will divide audiences straight down the middle and even those of the fairer sex, who might cringe at the faux 'female empowerment' pitch, may be pleasantly surprised. First, let's get one thing straight: obsessing over a man who did you wrong - to the point where you start dressing like a ninja and stalking him for payback - is not big and it's not clever. But, you know what? It's kinda funny.
The friction between Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz generates bright comedy sparks in a story that is otherwise trite and predictable, but just as important is their gradual warming towards each other. Mann is the good little wife "cute Kate", while Diaz is the careerist singleton Carly who doesn't know she is dating...

The Twentieth Century Fox comedy The Other Woman is gearing up for its end of the month release. Along with unveiling a slew of trailers and clips, Fox also had to do battle with the Motion Picture Association of America to allow the film to reach as wide an audience as possible. And with a few weeks to spare, Fox has won. The Wrap reports the MPAA has reconsidered The Other Woman's rating, and has revised its rating from R to PG-13. The Other Woman seemed ripe for an R-rating considering its concept. The script by Melissa Stack centers on a sassy single woman (Cameron Diaz) who thinks she's found the perfect man, only to learn he's married, making her--you guessed it--the other woman. But instead of the typical trajectory of wife (Leslies Mann) and mistress loathing each other, they bond over his betrayal and even befriend his other mistress...

Fox's upcoming comedy release The Other Woman has been deemed too sexual to be given a PG-13 rating.
The Motion Picture Association of America has instead given the movie - starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Upton and Leslie Mann as three wronged women seeking revenge on a shared cheating partner - an R rating due to the number of sexual references.
According to The Wrap, the studio plans to appeal the decision and remove some of the Melissa Stack-penned project's more risque scenes in an effort to broaden its appeal.
If the movie retained its R certification, it would limit the film's audience to those 17 or over (unless an accompanying adult was present).
However, Bridesmaids and We're the Millers were both released with an R rating, and went on to obtain worldwide box office success.
