The film, which was shot in contemporary, real-life Matera, uses irony and lightness as it uses the stories of invented, unauthorized jobs to show the daily life of a community that resists desperation, that doesn't want to flee from its doubtlessly difficult condition. Paradoxically, the people, who are well characterized, don't seem depressed or resigned to their working conditions, but on the contrary express an improbable creativity.
