With the days counting down until the Dead Space remake is finally unleashed, EA and composer Trevor Gureckis have a little treat for us in the form of “Make Us Whole”, an exclusive track from the Dead Space soundtrack. Fans of Henry Jacobson‘s Bloodline will be all too familiar with Gureckis’ work, who has also collaborated with M. Night Shyamalan on Old and the Apple+ series “Servant”.
The Dead Space remake is Trevor Gureckis’ first foray into Aaa video game scores. The full score will be released on the same day as the remake, courtesy of Lakeshore Records.
“Making the score to Dead Space was an 18 month long journey that started out with musically reassessing the lore of the game from scratch – and searching for thematic opportunities,” explains Gureckis. “I began by writing musical suites not connected to specific scenes or chapters, but rather to the story alone. Brian Tyler, composer of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” was named a BMI Icon at Wednesday night’s 38th annual Broadcast Music Inc. Film, TV and Visual Media Awards in Beverly Hills.
Tyler is among the top 10 highest-grossing film composers of all time. His other films have included “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Rambo,” “Charlie’s Angels” and the recent reboot of “Scream.” His TV credits include “Yellowstone,” “1883,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Sleepy Hollow” and “Transformers: Prime.” He also wrote the Formula One racing theme and, as his alter ego Madsonik, has written and produced several songs with a contemporary edge.
“It’s just mind-blowing to now be included in that pantheon of talent,” Tyler told Variety, referring to the many previous recipients of the performing-rights organization’s highest accolade, including John Williams, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Alexandre Desplat and Terence Blanchard.

Exclusive: Deadline has the first exclusive tracks from Jay Wadley’s Swan Song score, which is set for digital release via Lakeshore Records on December 17—the same day that the Apple Original Film premieres in theaters and globally on Apple TV+. Nine instant grat tracks will be available with every preorder.
The first feature from Oscar-winning writer-director Benjamin Cleary is set in the near future and centers on Cameron (Mahershala Ali), a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief. As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family’s fate, he ends up learning more about life and love than he ever imagined he would.
For the film marking his first collaboration with Cleary, Wadley looked to evoke deeply felt emotions, maintaining at the same time a sense of space and minimalism.

As the content universe expands at a rapid clip, music has never been more appreciated as an essential aspect of visual storytelling. That’s the 30,000-foot view of the film and TV music marketplace from dozens of industry insiders, tunesmiths and top players who are taking part in Variety’s annual virtual Music for Screens Summit. The three-day event examined how the global content boom has enlivened the work of composers, music supervisors, songwriters and artists.
Veteran creators and curators say respect for what scores and soundtracks add to storytelling has increased because there’s never been more collaboration among composers and music supervisors with directors, producers, actors and other key talents. This feeling was reflected in several of the summit talks, including keynote conversations from Bono, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jennifer Hudson and Variety’s composer of the year Hans Zimmer.

Best original song Oscar contenders Beyoncé and Van Morrison are among those who received nominations in the visual media categories at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (Hmma). Composers Hans Zimmer and Nicholas Britell were included among the familiar names picking up nods in the score categories.
The awards will be presented Nov. 17. The HMMAs honor composers, songwriters, and music supervisors for their work in music for film, television, and videogames.
Nominations here have historically been a harbinger or guide for what nominees and winners will pop up in the Golden Globes, Oscars, Grammys and Emmys that occur later in awards season, although there is a much wider field in the HMMAs, since there are separate divisions for sci-fi, animation, documentary and independent films in the score categories. M. Night Shyamalan is teaming up with his talented daughters for his latest film, Old. While his daughter Ishana served as the second unit director for the film, his daughter Saleka wrote a beautiful track for the film titled "Remain." As the supernatural thriller follows a family that travels to a mysterious beach that makes them age rapidly, the song is utilized throughout the film's storyline. "I don't want to give too much away, but one of the characters sings it in the beginning of the film, and then again when she is older," Saleka told Popsugar about the special significance behind the track. "It creates a sort of full-circle feeling, but is also a marker of how much has changed in that time. There is also a lot of emotional meaning behind that later moment when the song is sung. “Servant” was one of the best shows that the Television Academy must not have watched last year, as it did not receive a single nomination for the 2020 Emmy Awards. After halting production in the middle of its second season for six months during the pandemic, the thriller created by “24” writer and co-executive producer Tony Basgallop returned to Apple TV+ in January 2021 with the premiere of that second season and an uptick in critical support.
Metacritic tallied “generally favorable reviews” and the consensus on Rotten Tomatoes was that the “second season serves up solid set of thrills with a better grasp on its dark humor.” The Motion Picture Sound Editors gave the series its first award win in April with the Golden Reel Award for Best Half-Hour Sound Editing. This prize specifically recognized the work on the “2:00” episode directed by showrunner and two-time Oscar nominee M. Night Shyamalan.

“When it gets crazy, it gets crazy in a way that we never hear in season one,” says composer Trevor Gureckis about the musical score of the second season of “Servant” on Apple TV+. He continues in his exclusive interview with Gold Derby (watch the video above), “We wanted to see what could we get out of a new season and not sound like we were repeating or temp-scoring.”
Gureckis “introduced vocals” to characterize scenes with the titular servant Leanne Grayson played by actress Nell Tiger Free and “the electronics really went up” to achieve “a more muscular score.” The musician explains, “The electronics have really heavy hits and really low and huge rising chords and swells and things that you would never put in season one.” Gureckis adds, “In this season, it’s really aggressive and lots of scratchiness because things get crazy.”

Making its way into theaters with minimal fanfare, “Voyagers” is a smart and effective little sci-fi thriller about the best-laid plans of scientists crumbling in the face of teenage hormones and human frailty.
Even if the screenplay by director Neil Burger (“The Upside”) doesn’t carry through its darker observations about aggression, manipulation, and the politics of fear all the way to the end, it does at least raise those questions and display the best and worst of humanity over the course of its running time. Add some heartfelt performances and the wonderfully futuristic sheen of Scott Chambliss’ production design and Kevin Houlihan’s art direction, and the results are genre cinema that’s both thrilling and thought-provoking.

“I definitely wanted to create new and interesting sounds and things that really spoke to the uniqueness of the story line and the characters, who are dealing with this quite extraordinary experience,” reveals Trevor Gureckis in his exclusive interview with Gold Derby about composing the score for the Apple TV+ drama “Servant” starring Lauren Ambrose (watch the video above). He notes that about the endeavor under showrunner M. Night Shyamalan, “The idea of making it weirder was a pursuit of making it sound like nothing sounded like anything else, so he wanted the score to be different at all times and unique and he reacted against things that sounded normal.”
Instead of falling back on his old favorites of the clarinet and piano, Gureckis says, “You just pick up something, see what you can do,” which meant learning violin in this case. He explains, “You can do some modern techniques...

M. Night Shyamalan had one note for composer Trevor Gureckis when it came to the music for his new Apple+ series The Servant: “That’s not weird enough.”

The audience should feel unsettled.” The first three episodes of the 10-part series premiered on Thanksgiving.

Ever since seeing Bloodline at the 2019 Popcorn Frights Film Festival, I've had its infectious, synth-infused soundtrack stuck in my head, as the original music by Trevor Gureckis is like its own character in the film, giving the serial killer story a deadly pulse that hearkens back to some of the most memorable collaborations between John Carpenter and Alan Howarth. With Bloodline—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack coming to digital via Lakeshore Records on September 20th (the same day the film will be released in theaters and on Digital and VOD by Momentum Pictures), we've been provided with an exclusive track from the film's score to share with Daily Dead readers.

Sean William Scott as a serial killer. As soon as I read that I knew Bloodline was a movie and role that I never knew I wanted to see but now had to. I was very much looking forward to see if it worked out at all like I hoped it would.
Scott plays Evan, father of a newborn son with his wife Lauren (Mariela Garriga) and we see the stress of a new baby effects both of them in very different ways. Evan has a tendency to kill people and now he has a son to look after and protect. While Lauen is struggling with breast feeding and a very limited amount of sleep,...

Back on Wednesday morning, a Trailer debuted for what could be one of 2019’s bigger Academy Award players. It was for The Goldfinch, an adaptation of one of the more widely praised novels of the last decade or so. Warner Bros. is certainly bullish on this one, hoping that a fall release suggests future Oscar attention. The movie doesn’t hit until September, so it’s a full three months and change away, but it never hurts to get the ball running on buzz. You can see the Trailer for The Goldfinch below, but first…some discussion is, as always, in order for us! Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name by Donna Tartt, the film is a prestige laden drama. The plot synopsis via IMDb is as follows: “Thirteen year old New Yorker Theo Decker’s life is turned upside down when his mother is...

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Amazon Studios, The Goldfinch is the film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s globally acclaimed best-selling novel, which won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.
Directed by BAFTA Award winner John Crowley (“Brooklyn”), the film features a multigenerational cast led by Ansel Elgort (“Baby Driver”) as Theo Decker and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Barbour.
With a Fall release date, expect an awards season push from Warner Bros.
Theodore “Theo” Decker was 13 years old when his mother was killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day…a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch.

What do John Carter and Maniac have in common? Unlikely male heroes, wooden supporting cast and spring release dates aside, they both have excellent scores.
In fact, February/March is fast becoming my favourite time of year for unexpected film music treats. 2012 gave us Michael Giacchino’s epic sci-fi score to John Carter, Mark Mothersbaugh’s fun 21 Jump St, the charming Hunky Dory, and Jónsi’s (of Sigur Ros) lovely We Bought A Zoo. Here are some scores that you might not have noticed this year, which are all worth a listen.
