Back in 1996, the Twister cast, outside of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton was largely unknown. At the time, not too many of them were famous. However, in the years since the film, much of that has changed and much of the Twister cast has gone on to fame both in front and behind the camera.
Helen Hunt was arguably the film’s biggest star in the cast back in ’96, but she wasn’t the first choice for the movie. Before the role of Dr. Jo Harding went to her, Jurassic Park standout Laura Dern, Bridget Fonda, and Kate Mulgrew almost wore the good doctor’s white tank top and reinforced mud-stompers. Initially, Tom Hanks eyed the role of Bill Harding but ultimately felt Twister wasn’t the right fit for his brand of character creation. Other actors floated for Bill Harding include Kevin Costner, Michael Keaton, Kurt Russell, Richard Gere,...

Twenty-seven years after the release of the blockbuster disaster film Twister (watch it Here), Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have finally put a follow-up on the fast track to release – but they’re not calling it a sequel. Scheduled to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024, Twisters has been described as a “new chapter” in what is about to become a franchise… and during an interview with Vogue, cast member Glen Powell – who can currently be seen on the big screen in the romantic comedy Anyone but You – confirmed that the film tells a standalone story. But even without any connection to the original film, he believes that it’s something that will be able to connect to everyone around the world.
Powell told Vogue (with thanks to Deadline for sharing the text) that Twisters is “definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one.

Twisters, the sequel to 1996 storm-chasing action thriller Twisteris gathering pace. With Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell already aboard to star, Anthony Ramos is in talks to join them.
Minari's Lee Isaac Chung is in the director's chair for the new film, which if it stays true to what was reported last year, will focus on the daughter of Helen Hunt's Jo Harding and Bill Paxton's Bill Harding from the original. The hope is for Hunt to make an appearance.
Assuming he locks in a deal, this will mark the latest big film for Ramos, who is starring in this summer's Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, due in cinemas on 9 June.

A follow-up to the 1996 disaster film Twister (watch it Here) has been in and out of development for over twenty-five years. A few months ago, it was announced that one is finally going to go into production, with Minari director Lee Isaac Chung at the helm and Daisy Edgar-Jones of Fresh and Where the Crawdads Sing in the lead. And while that film, titled Twisters, heads toward its July 19, 2024 release date, Insider got some information on the demise of the Twister 2 that Twister star Helen Hunt was recently developing with Grammy and Tony winner Daveed Diggs and his Blindspotting co-writer Rafael Casal.
Diggs told Insider, “I’m not going to get into it, mostly because I’m probably going to misremember things. But all I’ll say is there was an opportunity where we were talking about that, and it didn’t happen, and the reasons that it didn’t happen are potentially shady.

Swirl your mind back to last October, when word first broke that the long-gestating sequel to 1996's storm-chasing thriller Twister was actually moving ahead. Titled Twisters, it has just picked up its first lead actor, with Daisy Edgar-Jones aboard to star.
Minari's Lee Isaac Chung is in the director's chair for the new film, which if it stays true to what was reported last year, will focus on the daughter of Helen Hunt's Jo Harding and Bill Paxton's Bill Harding from the original. The hope is for Hunt to make an appearance.
The casting of Edgar-Jones makes us think it'll come to pass, with The Revenant's Mark L. Smith on script duty. Steven Spielberg has been pushing this one forward, with a rare co-producing deal between Universal and Warner Bros.
All being well, it should be in cinemas around July 2024.

Here's a twist (hey-oh!): Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment's "Twisters" might not be a sequel to "Twister" after all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming film — which was previously said to be a follow-up to director Jan De Bont's storm-chasing 1996 blockbuster — is now being described by studio executives as "a new chapter." Not only that, it might even be a full-blown reboot of the "Twister" franchise, with the outlet stating, "The new story is not a sequel nor does it plan on bringing back old characters."
"Twister" famously cast Helen Hunt and the late, great Bill Paxton as a pair of married storm chasers on the verge of divorcing when they reunite in the middle of an extreme storm outbreak, in the hopes of deploying their experimental tornado research device. While it was previously believed Hunt might reprise her role as Dr. Jo Harding for "Twisters,...

Daisy Edgar-Jones is ready to ride the spiral for Universal Pictures as the lead of Twisters, a “new chapter” inspired by Jan De Bont’s 1996 disasterpiece. Edgar-Jones is making a name for herself after starring in Normal People and Where the Crawdads Sing. Twisters will be her first tentpole project, with Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) directing from a script by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant). Frank Marshall is producing through Kennedy/Marshall Company.
Jan De Bont’s Twister is a beloved action film from Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures. Twister stars Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton as storm chasers looking to make their mark on science by proving their concept for a tornado monitoring device. Throughout the special effects-driven thrill ride, Hunt and Paxton and a ragtag group of scientists place their lives on the line to collect information about tornado movement patterns.

Less than a week after Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment entered early talks with Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) to helm Twisters, the studios have announced a release date for the Twister sequel. Twisters will be released in theaters on July 19, 2024, just a week before Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie.
The Twister sequel has been penned by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant), and it’s said that Amblin’s Steven Spielberg “flipped” for the script and the production was fast-tracked. The hope is to bring back Helen Hunt as Dr. Jo Harding. It will focus on the daughter she had with Bill Paxton’s character, who has caught the same “storm-chasing bug” that her parents did. After thoroughly sifting through directors looking to whip up a natural disaster or two, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment are in early talks with Minari director Lee Isaac Chung for its Twister sequel, Twisters. The script for the follow-up to director Jan De Bont’s 1996 original is by Mark L. Smith, with Frank Marshall producing through Kennedy/Marshall.
According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg became so excited about the project after reading Smith’s script that Twisters was fast-tracked for Spring production. If all goes according to plan, the studios will court Helen Hunt on the project to reprise her role as Dr. Jo Harding. The plot for Twisters focuses on the daughter Hunt’s character had with Bill Paxton’s Bill Harding. The daughter is a storm-chaser, just like her parents. No one is taking on the lead role yet. Universal and Amblin want to lock Chung down before casting calls can begin.

Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) wrote the script, and Deadline notes in their report that several directors are being eyed to potentially come on board. They include…

We've got another exclusive clip of the Sundance Now series, Close to Me.
It stars Connie Nielsen as Jo Harding, a woman who suffered a terrible accident that left her missing an entire year of her memory.
Jo doesn't have all the support she needs to piece it back together again, especially when it comes to her husband.
He's the person she should be able to trust the most, but Rob (played with vigor by Christopher Eccleston) didn't seem to have her back.
This clip suggests he's still unable to give Jo what she needs.
At every turn, what Jo uncovers causes her to reconsider her marriage and relationship with Rob.
It's not any easier reconnecting with her son, so having him close would mean a lot to her, especially since he's floundering a bit, too.
But Rob wants him and Jo to live alone together without interference.

All is not as it seems in “Close to Me,” Sundance Now’s psychological drama about a married woman and mother who forgets the last year of her life following a traumatic event. A personal investigation into what caused it consumes all six episodes of the limited series, which stars Connie Nielsen and Christopher Eccleston in a middle-of-the-road effort that lands somewhere between the soap opera simplicity of a Lifetime movie and the kind of beautiful hellscape that Nielsen’s fellow Dane, filmmaker Lars von Trier, is known for writing. There’s even a sequence involving a dead canine scored to a rhyme about a copper fox, recalling the fabled “Chaos Reigns” moment in “Antichrist” (2009). If only “Close to Me” were as decidedly confrontational in its style and structure.
What prevents the series from being the haunting reverie it strive for is that it’s all-too-familiar — content with playing inside...

We've already shared the trailer for the new Sundance Now series, Close To Me.
Now, we've got an exclusive clip that offers a little of what Jo Harding will be dealing with after a tumble down the stairs left her battling partial amnesia.
Connie Nielsen is Jo, and Jo's mind is a jumble of missing links.
She has no recollection about the fall that left her gravely wounded.
There are so many unknowns.
Jo doesn't know how she fell down the stairs. She doesn't know what led up to that moment.
In a situation like that, trust is almost impossible.
But the most shocking thing might be what Jo doesn't know about herself.
Our clip reveals that she may have been involved in something a little untoward with someone other than her husband.
Instead of that revelation making her husband Rob (Christopher Eccleston) more sympathetic, it makes you wonder why...

Jo Harding seems to have it all.
A tumble down the staircase could change all of that.
In Close To Me, Connie Nielsen stars as Jo, a woman struggling to recall how she landed at the bottom of the stairs, gravely wounded.
Was it an innocent fall, or was there something more sinister afoot?
With a year of her life gone in an instant, Jo relies on those around her to help her piece together the broken parts of her recent memory.
Day by day, Jo questions everything she knew, trying to find a connection that could have resulted in her tragedy.
Jo's husband, Rob (Christopher Eccleston), sure seems like he's happy she survived, but even he's suspect as others reveal bits of her life he's purposefully hidden from her after her injury.
As the pieces begin to fall together, one thing seems certain.
The wonderful life she thought she...

Helen Hunt celebrated the 25th anniversary of Jan de Bont’s massive 1996 disaster blockbuster “Twister” by revealing a sequel she pitched that never got made.
During a recent episode of “Watch What Happens Live” hosted by Andy Cohen, Hunt said she showed interest in directing a sequel in June of 2020, right around the time a reboot was announced as in the works at Universal Pictures. (Via Insider.)
Hunt, who currently stars on the upcoming Starz series “Blindspotting,” said she wanted to make a film with a multiracial cast, but that an unnamed studio rejected the idea.
“I tried to get it made,” the “Mad About You” star told Cohen. “With Daveed [Diggs] and Rafael [Casal] and me writing it, and all Black and brown storm chasers, and they wouldn’t do it. I was going to direct it.”

“Wonder Woman 1984” star Connie Nielsen and “Doctor Who’s” Christopher Eccleston are set to star in psychological drama “Close to Me,” the first English-language drama to originate from Nordic Entertainment Group’s (Nent) fledgling U.K. operation.
Nent Studios U.K. is adapting British author Amanda Reynolds’ novel “Close to Me” in an eponymous six-part series that will debut on Nent Group-backed streamer Viaplay in the Nordic and Baltic regions as an Original, and air in the U.K. on Channel 4, which has acquired the project.
Mexican outfit Dopamine, which recently partnered with Nent Studios U.K. for scripted programs, will serve as a co-production partner on the series — a rare English-language scripted co-production for a Latin American business — while Nent Studios U.K. will distribute the title internationally.
The project is a major step forward for Nordic powerhouse Nent Group’s efforts in the U.K., a key...

Twister, the 1996 blockbuster hit, is set to conjure a new vaunted vortex on the big screen, thanks to plans for—get ready for it—a reboot movie.
Universal Pictures, which co-produced the original film, is spearheading a Twister reboot effort, and is in talks to tap Joseph Kosinski to direct, according to Variety. While there’s currently no script or even plot details in place, the studio is reportedly meeting with writers. Additionally, the legendary Frank Marshall is attached to produce the picture.
Manifesting as an archetypal effects-heavy blockbuster, Twister focused on weather-chasing meteorologist Jo Harding (Helen Hunt), who, armed with a team and state-of-the-art equipment, is determined to gather valuable data on a tornado headed for Oklahoma with potential to reach F5 status, similar to the one that claimed her father’s life when she was a child. However, Jo’s pursuit of her proverbial white whale is complicated...
