Iggy Pop brought Tom Waits out of hiding on the latest episode of his BBC Radio program, The Confidential Show. Over the course of two hours, the two gravelly-voiced rockers shared stories and took turns spinning records by the likes of Alex Chilton, Captain Beefheart, Jerry Lee Lewis, and C.W. Stoneking.
Other more contemporary song selections included Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss,” Beastie Boys’ “So What’cha Want” and Frank Ocean’s cover of “Moon River,” all of which were chosen by Waits.
Lil Mama’s 2007 single “Lip Glass” “became a favorite of mine recently,” Waits explained. After the song concluded, Waits and Pop humorously recited the chorus themselves.
In introducing Beastie Boys, Waits remarked, “Every time I hear them, they get me off my perch.” As for Frank Ocean’s cover of “Moon River,” Waits said, “It’s a very usual cover and I love what he did with it.

It was the stage interruption heard 'round the world. But even before Kanye West infamously stormed the stage during Taylor Swift's award acceptance speech in 2009 (which was the same ceremony that also saw Lil Mama crash a performance and Lady Gaga make an unbelievable onstage VMAs debut), the MTV Video Music Awards was the event where anything can happen. Arguably, fans everywhere were stunned when Britney Spears strolled out on stage with a snake fully draped over her shoulders during her 2001 performance of "I'm a Slave 4 U." However, that polarizing moment would be triumphed just two years later when the Princess of Pop would outdo herself...

Lil Mama had a little run-in with the law early Thursday morning. The rapper and actress (real name: Niatia Kirkland) was arrested at 4:04 a.m. in New York, the NYPD confirmed to E! News. According to the authorities, she was driving a 2015 Infiniti 38 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone near Fifth Avenue and W. 135th Street. Officers pulled her over, and she was unable to produce a driver's license. After a computer check, officers determined Lil Mama's driving privileges were revoked due to a speeding summons that went unaddressed in 2013. Lil Mama, the force behind the 2007 hit "Lip Gloss," was then arrested and taken to New York's 32nd precinct to await arraignment. Per the...

Three years have passed since "America's Best Dance Crew," aka "Abdc," was cancelled by MTV after seven seasons of often-spectacular performances by hip-hop dance crews. When it returns July 29, it will look very different--and have a live finale right before MTV's VMAs. The teams competing, however, will be very familiar: they're the winners of seasons 2 through 7 -- Super Cr3W, Quest Crew, We Are Heroes, I.aM.mE, and Elektrolytes -- plus a new group, Kinjaz, formed from team leaders of other dance crews, including season-one winners Jabbawockeez. The significant changes to the competition series start with the subtitle. Instead of being preceded by "Randy Jackson Presents," the show title is now "America’s Best Dance Crew: Road to the VMAs." The former "American Idol" judge turned mentor doesn't seem to be on board with the new season, as his name isn't listed among producers. Instead, it's produced by Hip...

Lil Mama just made a big comeback. This week, the 25-year-old rapper, former America's Best Dance Crew judge and actress who played Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in the popular VH1 biographical movie CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story released her new '90s-style music video "Sausage" this week. The song is all about safe sex (as was TLC's "Waterfalls") and pays homage to artists such as party pal Mary J. Blige, plus Madonna and Michael Jackson, as well as popular Vine videos. The hip hop track, a mix of '90s and current hip-hop, R&B and pop, was released earlier this month and is Lil Mama's first in more than five years and contains lyrics such as, "Eggs,...

With this whole "Sausage" thing, it looks like Lil Mama's attempted comeback to rap, music videos, and dancing is in full swing. It's a fun video that feels almost like a visual and musical collage of dozens of different hip-hop references and homages. Never one to not be poppin', Mama shows she's still got moves, meat bombs (lots of 'em, and she's either making the sausage movement really proud or annoyed), and some good old-fashioned maternal advice.

Hulu's seven-episode series "The Hotwives of Orlando" lampoons Bravo's "Real Housewives" franchises in exactly the right ways: The catchphrases, the melodrama, the sham marriages, and the frightening fights are all parodied with very close attention to detail. Creators Dannah Phirman and Danielle Schneider have a cast of game ladies in their Florida-set series, including Schneider herself (who plays Shauna Maducci, the "bankrupt overspender"), "Happy Endings"/"SNL" vet Casey Wilson as trophy wife Tawny St. John, Tymberlee Hill as Phenomenon "Phe Phe" Reed, Andrea Savage as cougar Veronica Von Vandervon, Angela Kinsey of "The Office" as religious zealot Crystal Simmons, and "30 Rock" vet Kristen Schaal as drug-addled former child star Amanda Simmons. HitFix caught a few minutes to interview Wilson, Hill, Savage, Schneider, and Phirman. Instead of asking them to name their favorite "Housewives" franchise or terrifying dream about Andy Cohen, we asked them to pick their favorite ladies from famous pop culture groups.

One of the most memorable performances of this year's American Music Awards came from iconic '90s girl band TLC, despite the fact that original member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes passed away in 2002. In her place was Lil Mama, who also played her in last month's VH1 biopic about the girls. While it was a fun blast from the past to see Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins back on stage singing "Waterfalls," I'm not sure Lil Mama was up to the challenge, since she seemed like she ran out of breath during Left Eye's admittedly complicated rap. What did you think of the performance - did Lil Mama do Left Eye justice, or do you think the other ladies should have performed without her?...

Wait, it’s holiday movie season already? At the Best Man Holiday red carpet premiere in L.A. on Tuesday night, some of the stars embraced this fact whole-heartedly, wearing sparkling silver, glittery blue and delicious red (Morris Chestnut’s velvet blazer is amazing, but boys, don’t try this at home). Some went a little far in this theme (Lil Mama, how we love you). Others ignored the season entirely (looking at you, Claudia Jordan), or simply went with the great style that’s always worked for them (Taye Diggs and his bow ties 4ever). And then there was Terrence Howard, in a category all his own (multiple handkerchiefs, jaunty hat — what could go wrong?).
Best Man Holiday, the sequel to 1999′s Best Man, is out November 15, and we have plenty of juicy content on the cast and the movie coming up next week. In the meantime,...

If you’ll pardon a direct piece of fanmail, I must out myself as a TLC superfan. For those of us who grew up rejecting scrubs in the ’90s, TLC was one of the few hip-hop groups that felt both bad-ass and parent-safe, sincere and self-possessed, cool and zany. As the top-selling female trio of all time, the group and its Billboard legacy speak for themselves, but it still feels like there’s more to be said about the authentic, empowering camaraderie of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. While later groups like Destiny’s Child and the Pussycat Dolls felt like contrived, slicked-up supergroups of lucky auditioners, TLC’s sexy, saucy vibe made for a one-of-a-kind thrill: a goofy radness you trusted. The loving was strong and they had it going on.

Read our review of ‘CrazySexyCool,’ then share your own!
Unlike most made-for-tv biopics — which are so fictionalized that the finished product bears almost no truth whatsoever — VH1′s CrazySexyCool had TLC‘s stamp all over it, allowing for an authentic re-telling of the iconic girl group’s history. And as we learned during this wild two-and-a-half-hour ride, the truth is always more interesting than fiction.
For younger viewers unfamiliar with TLC’s history, it was a compelling introduction to arguably the biggest girl group in music history; and for long-time fans of the former trio, it was a heartbreaking roller coaster, recalling incredible highs and devastating lows.
‘CrazySexyCool’ Tackles Tragedy With Care
One such low, the loss of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes (played on-screen by Lil Mama), was particularly gut-wrenching to relive. It was one thing for the cast to recreate a TLC music video, but it was another to...

What can you say about a massively popular, celebrated band like TLC that hasn’t already been said? VH1 is attempting to answer that question by gifting the world with a made-for-tv biopic to add to their impressive roster of TLC-themed entertainment, which at this point includes the band’s episode of Behind the Music and the documentary The Last Days of Left Eye. CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story follows Left Eye (Lil Mama), T-Boz (Drew Sidora), and Chili (Keke Palmer) as they navigate their rise to fame and success in the music industry. I can only assume they’re going to milk Lil Mama’s amazing Left Eye impression for everything it’s worth and address her tragic death near the end of the movie as well. The film looks like a campy good time, if not a bit cheesy. Hey, this is VH1 we’re talking about. These are the good people who bring you...

[More after the jump...] Now, Lady Gaga’s demo of “Posh Life” has surfaced. Musically, the tune recalls “Waterfalls” in its mid-tempo sweeping feel. Lyrically, the inspiring lyrics stress “you gotta be brave/be brave until you bleed.” Inspiring, and a little gross. In a bit of a art-imitates-life-imitates-art twist, Lil Mama, who plays Lisa...
