Almost exactly one year ago, I wrote a piece about an upcoming web series by Brooke Lemke and Rachel Grubb titled Safe Word. The multi-episode series was being described with provocative words such as "fetish" and "taboo-laden," so of course I was intrigued.
Then, as so often happens, the project seemed to drop off the map, with no word at all on its progress. But I can now announce happily that Safe Word is finished and the first two episodes are posted at Blip.tv/SafeWord, ready for your twisted viewing pleasure.
I recently touched base with Lemke about Safe Word, which she now describes as a "dark comedic thriller," though, based on the first couple of episodes, it still covers some relatively spicy territory, which apparently has its roots in reality.
"All the episodes of Safe Word were written by Rachel and directed by myself," Lemke told me. "This...

Indie film darlings Rachel Grubb and Brooke Lemke have a twisted new project planned, but this time they're taking it to the Internet.
Lemke and Grubb are producing a 12-episode webseries called Safe Word. Lemke will be directing this "dark and revealing taboo-laden story about a man with a secret, and the lengths he will go to come to terms with it." [Editor's note: This is just conjecture, but I'm willing to bet the secret has something to do with sex…at least, it better.] Written by Grubb, the project began life as a feature but morphed into a webseries along the way.
The ladies have a locked a pretty solid cast for Safe Word, including Grubb (Why Am I in a Box?), Ryan Kiser (the upcoming Potpourri), Anne Westcott (Third Party '08), Devanny Pinn (Piranha) and Scott McClure (The Joker Blogs).
The series will be produced under the aegis of Silent-But-Deadly Productions, Grubb and Lemke's Minneapolis-based production company. I know that Grubb made the big move to Los Angeles a while back,...

One of the most intriguing newcomers to the "Indie Scream Queen" scene has been actress Rachel Grubb. In the short span of four years, the Minnesota based actress has managed to boast over 30 genre credits (including 13 Hours in a Warehouse , Camp Kill and the upcoming Haunting Kira ), an impressive feat in itself, on top of acting as a writer, director and producer on her own feature film Why Am I In A Box? With Brooke Lemke, Grubb formed Silent-But-Deadly Productions, a company which has made four feature length films, and continues to contribute to the rich Minneapolis filmmaking scene by offering women internships and the opportunity to work on locally made movies. Shock talked candidly with Rachel about making horror films, her original ambitions as a...

Hot dog everybody! We’ve got another Christopher R. Mihm movie!
Out of all Mihm’s movies, I must say that this one felt the most like a tribute and the least like a parody, which is not a bad thing. The film holds true to many of the 1950s space exploration movies and the production style and musical score do a wonderful job of re-creating the absurd atmosphere those movies held.
We follow the two-man crew of the Mars-1 spaceship, Captain Jackson and Lieutenant Elliott, as they land on the red planet and see what no man has seen before! Finding the surface of the planet oddly Earth-like, the duo discovers that the air has no hazardous or infectious agents so they don’t even need their space helmets. Of course!
After making the incredibly intelligent decision to split up, Lieutenant Elliot wanders into a...
