Sony Pictures has won global distribution rights to the hot comedy package “My Ex-Friend’s Wedding,” a script co-written by buzzy author Taylor Jenkins Reid starring a murderers’ row of funny women.
Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, “Saturday Night Live” breakout Chloe Fineman, Amanda Seyfried and Megan Stalter are set as the core ensemble. The film follows four childhood best friends who receive a drunken voicemail from a former Bff on the eve of her wedding day — confessing that she thinks she’s making a mistake. The group sets out to stop her wedding and rekindle the friendship they once shared.
Comedy vet Kay Cannon, whose 2019 feature directorial debut “Blockers” over-performed at the box office, is directing. The script is from Ashley Rodger and Jenkins Reid. The latter could not be hotter at the moment, as the series adaptation of her novel “Daisy Jones & The Six” is about to hit Amazon Prime Video.

Exclusive: Sony Pictures Television is developing Invisible Women, a female-driven dark comedy based on Jeanne Ray’s novel Calling Invisible Women, with veteran screenwriter and showrunner Randi Mayem Singer (Mrs. Doubtfire) set to pen the pilot.
In Invisible Women, a woman “of a certain age” wakes up one day to find herself literally invisible and soon realizes she’s not alone.
“I love the idea of invisibility as a metaphor for when women are no longer ‘seen’ as we were in younger years,” said Singer. “The fun comes with making invisibility a superpower as well as an identity crisis.”
Singer partners on the project with Kay Cannon and Laverne McKinnon of K&l Productions and Alex Hertzberg, who will executive produce.

Here's a trailer that I did not think I would be recommending to you. While Girlboss lacks the typical geeky, actiony, dude vibe we throw out here (minus the Disney stuff), it looks pretty damn good! Here's a description:
Girlboss is inspired by the New York Times best-selling book #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, founder of the fashion brand Nasty Gal. The series centers on Sophia (Britt Robertson), who began selling vintage clothes on eBay and, by the age of 28, had built the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. Girlboss is created by and executive produced by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect 1& 2, 30 Rock), who also serves as showrunner. Charlize Theron (Monster, Young Adult) and Laverne McKinnon, of Denver & Delilah, Christian Ditter (How to Be Single) and Sophia Amoruso will also serve as executive producers. Ditter also directs all 13-half hour episodes. Girlboss stars Britt Robertson (Sophia), Ellie Reed (Annie), Alphonso McAuley (Dax...

It looks like it will be a lot of fun getting to know this young lady ah, nasty gal.
And lest you think your time to create a fortune on Ebay has passed, with so many people moving toward everyday processed goods for the ease of their markets on the Bay, there are fortunes to be had in all kinds of exciting places on Ebay.

The world of online retail can be a bitch, but it takes one to know one. In Netflix’s new series “Girlboss,” one young woman is going to find out what it takes to go into e-commerce for herself.
Inspired by the best-selling book “#Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso, the series tells her story of starting out by dipping her toes in the eBay pond by clothes-flipping her vintage finds at local thrift stores. The first scene in the trailer below riffs off of a real-life event in which Amoruso bought a vintage Chanel jacket for $8 and sold it for $1,000.

It’s not clear how much the series will follow Amoruso’s entrepreneurial trajectory, but there’s plenty to mine from her experiences. After some highs and lows, Amoruso launched her own fashion brand, Nasty Gal, which became a popular and fast-growing retailer.

Girlboss, the latest original series setting up shop at Netflix, has zeroed in on its leading lady: Tomorrowland star Britt Robertson.
Hatched by Pitch Perfect scribe Kay Cannon, the 13-episode comedy takes cues from Sophia Amoruso’s popular memoir of the same name. Cannon is attached to produce the series alongside Charlize Theron, Laverne McKinnon, Christian Ditter and Amoruso herself. Ditter, fresh off helming How to be Single, will serve as director on Girlboss.
At the crux of the story, though, is Sophie (Robertson) a “rebellious, broke anarchist who refuses to grow up. She stumbles upon her passion of selling vintage clothes online and becomes an unlikely businesswoman. As she builds her retail fashion empire, she realizes the value and the difficulty of being the boss of her own life.”

Exclusive: Epix's retreat from original programming continues with the departure of Laverne McKinnon, Evp original programming and development. Epix -- a joint venture of Viacom, Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate -- made a statement that it was serious about originals when it hired industry veteran McKinnon, former head of drama development for CBS, 2 years ago to spearhead its efforts in the area. At the time, Epix had already greenlighted its first pilot, Nashville drama Tough Trade, and had several series and miniseries in development. That same fall, McKinnon made the rounds around town, laying out an ambitions scripted agenda for Epix, which included the launch of the channel's first original scripted offering, likely a miniseries, in third-quarter 2010, followed by a rollout of a scripted program each quarter, alternating between minis and 13-episode series. Epix continued to aggressively acquire documentaries and concert and comedy specials and became a pioneer in striking an...

New York -- Epix is further strengthening its commitment to original programming and particularly documentaries. The premium TV service joint venture of Viacom, Lionsgate and MGM has hired Jill Burkhart as director of documentary development, effective immediately.
The new position was filled following Epix's recent first Emmy nomination for "Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story," which chronicles the comedian's rise to fame. Its slate of documentaries has also included Academy Award winner "The Cove" and Michael Moore classic "Bowling for Columbine," among others.
Burkhart most recently served as the executive director of the Nantucket Film Festival, which she founded along with her brother in 1996. Previously, she worked with Madstone Films as a curator for its Very Indie Film Series and led screenwriters' retreat the Screenwriters Colony.

In its first casting, Epix has tapped Sam Shepard to star in its inaugural pilot, "Tough Trade," an indication that the fledging multiplatform entertainment service will be pursuing established talent for its original offerings.
"Trade," from Lionsgate TV, executive producer/showrunner Jenji Kohan and co-executive producer/creator Chris Offutt, is a contemporary one-hour drama about the Tucker family, a three-generation Nashville music dynasty whose penchant for drink, debauchery and divorce has left them morally corrupt and on the verge of bankruptcy.
Shepard will play the patriarch.
Lionsgate TV president Kevin Beggs called Shepard "a brilliant, multitalented artist who will bring great authenticity to the project."
Gavin Hood is directing the pilot, slated to start production Dec. 3 in Nashville.
Epix, a joint venture of Viacom, Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate that launched Oct. 30 with concert and comedy specials, has not announced additional carriage deals beyond its pact with Verizon's FiOS. But the...

Epix is serious about original programming -- that's the message the fledging multiplatform service's newly minted head of development Laverne McKinnon is relaying to the creative community in a series of presentations she has been doing around town.
The premium channel's launch recently was slated for Oct. 30, with the programming lineup for the launch weekend featuring the TV and online premieres of Madonna's concert special "Sticky & Sweet: Live From Buenos Aires" as well as Marvel's "Iron Man" and the comedy special "Eddie Izzard: Live From Wembley."
According to people present at the pitches, McKinnon said that after starting off with a mix of music and comedy specials and movies, Epix -- a joint venture of Viacom, Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate -- will segue into original scripted programming.

Epix is making a push into original programming with the hire of former CBS drama chief Laverne McKinnon as head of development at the fledging premium TV service.
A rep for Epix declined comment Tuesday, but McKinnon reportedly has already been working behind the scenes at the company, a joint venture of Viacom, Lionsgate and MGM.
Epix's programming efforts have focused mainly on signing film-output deals, including pacts with Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn, to complement titles from the venture's co-owners as Epix gears for the launch of its Web content service.

CBS has pinned senior vp stripes on Christina Davis and Robert Zotnowski, who officially have been given the reins of the network's drama department.
Davis and Zotnowski have been shepherding CBS' drama development since the fall, when senior vp drama Laverne McKinnon left the network. They will continue to report to CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler.
Davis and Zotnowski's promotions come on the heels of the duo overseeing a slate of risky and unconventional projects, several of which were picked up to series: the murder-mystery musical Viva Laughlin; the couple- swapping-themed Swingtown; the Latino dark family drama Cane; and Moonlight, about a private eye who is a vampire.
"I've watched Robert and Christina grow from promising young programrs to talented, skilled and accomplished development executives," Tassler said. "Without question they are two of the brightest young programming minds in our business, with the talent and relationships in the community to take our drama development to even greater heights."
Davis and Zotnowski, who have operated as a team since they were named vps drama series in May 2005, also were involved in the development of CBS' returning freshmen dramas Jericho and Shark and sophomore one-hours Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer and The Unit.
Davis started in the CBS drama department in 1997 as assistant to then-department head Tassler and rose through the ranks from supervisor to manager and director.
