The 2024 Indonesian movie on Netflix called Monster revolves around two schoolchildren named Alana and Rabin who get abducted by a man named Jack. Jack feels like the real monster in the story, as it becomes clear he has done this before. But he is not alone; his wife, Murni, is also involved in these abductions. The film has no dialogue as such. And honestly, there is no need, as the atmosphere of terror with panting and screaming is enough to fill the void. Despite the horrifying situation, Alana and Rabin show incredible courage to escape. Their struggle to survive from the monsters becomes more intense and involves killing to survive. The movie does not have many characters, only four main ones: Alana, Rabin, Jack, and Murni. So let’s look at the cast and characters of Monster, directed by Rako Prijanto.

Global streaming giant Netflix has made a significant ongoing commitment to production of original content from Southeast Asia and in the Chinese language.
For 2024, Netflix has unveiled a slate of four Chinese-language series, all hailing from Taiwan. From Thailand, it detailed seven series and one film. From Indonesia, it has committed to five films and a series co-written and directed by the consistently successful Joko Anwar, marking his first partnership with the streamer.
Additionally, Netflix has confirmed the appointment of Maya Huang as its head of Chinese-language content.
The moves stand in sharp contrast to the mid-January happenings at rival global streamer Prime Video, which is cutting staff in the region and ending its brief experiment with Southeast Asian originals.
In Indonesia, Netflix says it is broadening its storytelling with a range of genres including comedy, action, fantasy, and sci-fi thrillers.

In my last trips in Indonesian cinema, I have watched an art-house biopic, a drama (Emma), and a thriller of sorts (A Copy of My Mind). I guess it was about time to watch a Western, although one much different from the American ones, since “Marlina” features a distinct feminist tone, throughout its duration.
As stated in the title, the film is split if four acts. In the first act, in genuine western fashion, a man enters Marlina’s house uninvited, pragmatically informing her that his gang will soon arrive, take all her money, her livestock and sleep with her, and there is nothing she can do about it, since her husband is actually dead, placed mummified in a corner of the room. Furthermore, and in a mockery of the customs of hospitality, she makes her cook dinner for everyone. This last order however, proves fatal, as Marlina poisons the soup,...

Nominated for seven awards at the 2019 Famas, “Ode to Nothing” is a rather unusual film that lingers between the black comedy and the drama and mostly focuses on the “relationship” between an embalmer and a cadaver.
“Ode to Nothing” is screening at Fantasia 2019
The embalmer mentioned is Sonya, a former maid who lives a life with no friends, desperately trying to keep her family-owned funeral home afloat, while living in a large house just with her rather strange father. Her financial situation is awful, and the presence of a constantly nagging usurer named Theodore, makes matters even harder. Sonya’s only solace is to hear the Chinese folk song “Mo Li Hua” over and over again.
Her luck, however, seems to change when a pair of strangers appears in the parlor with a bloodied corpse, and ask her to take care of it, no questions asked. Sonya reluctantly agrees, but...

Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts long before the downfall of Harvey Weinstein brought a reckoning to the film business, but her film would turn out to be perfectly calibrated for the times. Call it Indonesia's feminist Western for the #MeToo moment.
Marlina stars Marsha Timothy as the titular heroine, a widow whose rural home is set upon by bandits, with the leader of the gang perfunctorily announcing their plans to rape and rob her. Exhibiting enough grit and steely survival instinct to rival any hero — male or female — of a classic ...

“Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts,” an action story and powerful female empowerment drama, has been named by Indonesia as its contender for the Academy Awards foreign-language Oscars race. It was directed by musician turned film maker Mouly Surya.
Set on the island of Sumba in eastern Indonesia, and starring Marsha Timothy, the film follows a young widow who embarks on a journey seeking justice and empowerment after being attacked by robbers and killing several men. The selection was made by a committee headed by veteran actress Christine Hakim.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the 2017 edition of the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar. It also played at Toronto and Palm Springs festivals that year and claimed the Netpac award for new Asian cinema at Poland’s Five Flavours Asian festival. Its commercial release in Indonesia began in November 2017.

Machetes, poisonous berries and headless ghosts litter the sunbaked plains of Sumba in Mouly Surya’s revenge drama
This macabre and deadpan film from the Indonesian director Mouly Surya has been described as a “satay western”. It’s a violent rape-revenge tale that takes place in the sunbaked and sweeping plains of Sumba in eastern Indonesia, which Surya endows with the same stark quality that Sergio Leone gave Spain’s Tabernas Desert.
Marlina (Marsha Timothy) is a widow; seven men from the local village arrive at her house intent on stealing her livestock and raping her. But Marlina has her fierce payback with poisonous berries and a machete that she has perhaps been keeping for just this eventuality. Her escape brings her into contact with the pregnant Novi (Dea Panendra) and these two women’s destinies entwine.

Deleted scenes are usually deleted for a reason, and that reason is that they're typically comprised of footage that's really not worth watching. But let's go ahead and toss that broad generalization out the window because as you're about to see, there are exceptions to the rule.

He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen – a fight that left the bodies of police and gangsters alike piled in the halls – rookie Jakarta cop Rama thought it was done and he could resume a normal life. He couldn’t have been more wrong.
Formidable though they may have been, Rama’s opponents in that fateful building were nothing more than small fish swimming in a pond much larger than he ever dreamed possible.

Posters, stills, featurettes and trailers have already heralded the imminent arrival of The Raid 2 (not subtitled 'Berandal' in this country, just as we didn't call the last one Redemption). And now here's yet another of the latter: a new 90-second teaser of glorious face-smashery and jailhouse rocking. In mud. This clip is officially dubbed The Internet Trailer, reflecting the fact that the web's numerous high profile interbloggers have already uniformly gone ice cold thick banana whips over Gareth Evans' punishing sequel. Basking in the minute-and-a-half above, it's hard not to share their enthusiasm. The Raid 2 – described by more than one hack of Empire's acquaintance as Once Upon A Time In Jakarta - picks up the story two hours after The Raid, and sweeps Rama (Iko Uwais) into a much broader world of corruption and violence as he infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless crime syndicate.Yayan Ruhian (playing a...

A new featurette, fresh in via Youtube, for Gareth Evans’ long anticipated sequel to the widely popular first installment of The Raid franchise, has just been relased.
The Raid 2: Berandal (meaning hooligan), as a title, suggests brawny, functional violence yet as evidenced in this ten minute featurette, the film is far more nuanced and sophisticated. The featurette contains a sizeable chunk of footage, giving the viewer an insight into the mechanics of the film’s action and plot.
Following an animated preamble that features the film’s main cast members, we hear from Evans as he describes the latest exploits of Jakarta cop, Rama (Iko Uwais). Immediately following the events of the original, The Raid 2 tracks Rama as he is forced to join an anticorruption task force to ensure the protection of his wife and child. With his family at risk, Rama must go undercover and hunt for information...

If you’re already burning with anticipation for the martial arts and other violent madness offered by director Gareth Evans and The Raid 2: Berandal, here’s something to keep those fires stoked. Evans has hit Twitter to debut a new poster for the film. Designed by Omar Hauksson, the image of star Iko Uwais is built using a mosaic of images from the movie itself, most of them showing people hitting other people. It’s a technique that has been used in movie imagery in particular for a while now, but it certainly beats a basic floating head job. This sequel picks up the story two hours after The Raid and sweeps Rama (Uwais) into a much broader world of corruption and violence as he goes undercover in prison and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate. And yes, it looks even more gloriously violent than its predecessor,...

Every year, religiously, somebody passes out at Sundance because of a visceral reaction they had to one of the movies screened there. The latest to earn that dubious honor? Gareth Evans' sequel to The Raid: Redemption, entitled The Raid 2: Berandal.
According to The Wrap, a man who appeared to be in his early 30s fell ill during the Tuesday night premiere of The Raid 2: Berandal at the cavernous Eccles Theater in Park City, halting the screening midway through.
The man appeared to recover from whatever caused him to faint and after a while was able to walk out on his own power with the help of theater staff. Paramedics were apparently on their way to check him out all the same.

A protracted technical kerfuffle overnight led to Raid director Gareth Evans submitting to an impromptu Q&A on Twitter. Eventually, it also resulted in this brand new Indonesian trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal. It seems as if, surely, it must be telling us too much, but Evans promises that this holds "only spoilers for the first act set-up".<br>The Raid 2: Berandal picks up the story two hours after The Raid (Evans says "The [potential] Raid 3 would take place two hours before The Raid 2 ends"...), and sweeps Rama (Iko Uwais) into a much broader world of corruption and violence as he infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate. As you'll just have seen, it looks even more gloriously violent than its predecessor, if that's possible. But it's odd how balletic it all looks when devoid of its crunchy sound effects. Can you have serene arm-breaking? We feel like we just saw one.

If you've already seen The Raid: Redemption, then you know it's one of the greatest action films of all time. It was on my list of favorite films of 2012, and I can't wait for the sequel to get made! Director Gareth Evans is preparing to shoot the highly anticipated sequel and recently took to Twitter to say that they'll starts shooting on January 19th, and gives us a little more info on the film's timeline.
The movie will be called Berandal and Evans reveals that the movie will take place only two hours after the first movie ends. That's awesome! It also means that the characters who survived aren't going to get much of a break to rest up. Evans previously revealed that the story will be told on a much larger scale, and that it moves from the apartment complex and into the city streets. Here's what he had...

We told you recently that Gareth Evans will be back in the director's chair for a sequel to his badass flick The Raid: Redemption, which is known as Berandal, and now the man himself took some time to flesh out a few details.
First he took to his Twitter account with this interesting tidbit:
"Ok Raid 2 tidbit, we start shooting on January 19th and the first scene takes place 2hrs after the first film ends."
And then MTV caught up with him, and he had this to say regarding the sequel:
"The sequel is going to be a big departure in a way, in that we won't just copy the same formula as the first film," Evans said. "It's not going to be set within one building this time. Everything that was terrifying about the boss in that building in the first movie is small fry compared to the criminal...
