Sunday’s Oscar telecast delivered a rare moment in the sun for some of Hollywood’s most unsung heroes: Personal publicists. And while TV viewers might’ve wondered why they got so much love, those in the audience at the 2024 Oscars might argue the shine was due to a classic case of reverse psychology.

Robert Downey Jr. is eyeing the Stewart role, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight tapped to write the screenplay. Downey and wife Susan Downey are attached to produce the project via Team Downey, with John Davis and John Fox via Davis Entertainment.
Paramount released the original film, which was based on the French novel D’entre les morts. Several Hitchcock films have been remade over the years, including Psycho and Rear Window.
Downey will next be seen in the Christopher Nolan movie Oppenheimer. He is repped by WME, Joy Fehily and Hansen Jacobson. Knight, repped by CAA and Nelson Davis, was recently...

The series is based on the hit Universal Pictures and MRC Film’s Ted, the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time (not a sequel or based on other IP).
Collectively Ted and Ted 2 grossed more than $750 million worldwide.
MacFarlane is in negotiations to reprise the voice of the iconic and lovable foul-mouthed teddy bear, so we'll need to wait to find out for sure whether he will be back.

This is the second series order since MacFarlane and Fuzzy Door signed an overall development deal with UCP in 2020.

Last Wednesday an email chain started to circulate around Hollywood’s press agencies, who represent many of the entertainment industry’s top stars. Over the decades, some veteran publicists were getting sick and tired of the demands of The Hollywood Foreign Press, that coterie of about 90 foreign correspondents who originally banded together to get access to movie stars and eventually came to believe they were friends with them.
The HFPA launched the Golden Globes in 1944, and this past season came under fire after the latest in a series of muckraking newspaper stories over the years exposing their susceptibility to exotic junkets and excessive swag, cozy relationships with publicists, and their myopia about diversity within their membership ranks. After refusing to hire a diversity consultant, the HFPA went ahead and recently put some advisors on their payroll, announcing at the Golden Globes, which were an anemic affair this year, that they would make changes.

Family Guy and The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane is leaving his longtime studio home at 20th Century Fox Television after more than two decades for a giant nine-figure television deal at NBCUniversal Content Studios. No one would comment but I hear the pact is for five years and worth at least $200 million.
NBCU Content Studios, the new business unit encompassing Universal Television, Universal Content Prods. and NBCUniversal International Studios under Bonnie Hammer, is announcing itself in a big way by bringing in MacFarlane, one of the A-list creators on the white-hot overall deal market, as its first major talent deal.
NBCU Content Studios’ Ucp and Universal TV each have mega deals on their rosters with the likes of Sam Esmail, Dick Wolf, Mike Schur, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, among others.
MacFarlane was brought into the NBCU fold through Ucp President Dawn Olmstead, with her unit expected to take lead in working with MacFarlane.

Seth MacFarlane (The Orville), Sienna Miller (Live by Night), Simon McBurney (The Theory of Everything) and Annabelle Wallis(Peaky Blinders) are set to star opposite Russell Crowe and Naomi Watts in Showtime’s upcoming eight-episode limited series about Fox News founder Roger Ailes, played by Crowe.
All four will play key figures in the Ailes real-life saga: MacFarlane will portray Ailes’ former confidant Brian Lewis, McBurney will play Fox head Rupert Murdoch, Miller is Ailes’ ex-wife Beth, while Wallis is former Fox News exec Laurie Luhn.
This is a rare drama acting gig for MacFarlane who stars on his latest series, Fox’s The Orville, and voices characters on some of his animated series, most notably Family Guy. It took weeks of trying to make the deal for the Showtime limited series work around his busy schedule on The Orville, which he also showruns, writes for and directs. In June,...

If even a shred of Vulture’s expose on Solo: A Star Wars Story is true, then erstwhile directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller lost control of their galactic adventure. And fast.
Prior to Lucasfilm’s decision to part ways with the filmmaking duo, whose work spans The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, Lord and Miller allegedly “felt the pressure” and began shooting multiple takes of the same scene in order to encourage the same improvisational comedy and off-the-cuff jokes synonymous with their previous work.
Such a method of approach was clearly at odds with Lucasfilm’s rebooted Star Wars saga, leading the Powers That Be to appoint Ron Howard in their place. And though that may be true, Chris Miller took to Twitter late last night to downplay Vulture’s allegations, writing, “don’t believe everything you read.”

Just like Rogue One before it, Solo: A Star Wars Story endured a trying spell in front of the cameras.
But whereas Lucasfilm called upon the help of Tony Gilroy to overhaul the third act of its gritty, pulse-pounding anthology pic back in 2016, the additional photography on Solo allegedly involved Ron Howard shooting “exactly the same script” as Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who were fired from the project last summer just as filming was nearing the final stages.
Citing a source familiar with the situation, Vulture brings word of Solo‘s “chaotic” production under Lord and Miller, who supposedly shot “more than 30 takes” of a given scene in order to encourage a sense of improvisational comedy – hardly surprising, given their past credits include Sony’s Jump Street series.
Phil and Chris are good directors, but they weren’t prepared for Star Wars. After the 25th take, the actors are looking at each other like,...

And veteran publicists Joy Fehily and Michael Donkis are bringing their Prime PR staff over to Pmk-bnc, reporting to Co-Chairman and CEO Cindi Berger. Fehily left Pmk in 2009 to launch Prime, while Donkis left corporate PR at talent agency Endeavor. Leaving behind an Academy embattled by diversity issues, Kounelias will head to smoother waters as Participant's new executive vice president, Worldwide Marketing and Communications. Kounelias will lead their global marketing strategy for all films and media, helping to coordinate Participant’s pro-social narrative. She leaves her stint as the first chief marketing officer at AMPAS, where she oversaw all marketing, communications and...
