We’re just eight days away from learning which Dancing With the Stars contestant will hoist that Mirrorball over his or her head — but first, they had to clear the hurdle of Monday’s semifinals.
The five remaining pairs performed two routines during Monday’s broadcast: For the first, each pro got to choose a song that they thought best encapsulated his or her partner. For the second — arguably one of the series’ most difficult rounds in recent memory — couples were asked to recreate an iconic, perfect-score-receiving routine from a past season of DWTS. (As if getting to the finale weren’t stressful enough.

Val Chmerkovskiy got the chance to dance with his girlfriend and fellow performer, Jenna Johnson, on Monday's Dancing With the Stars, during an emotional number with Victoria Arlen.
The trio performed a powerful contemporary routine set to "To Build a Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra, which was inspired by Arlen's inspirational health journey, and the touching performance brought the audience to tears.
Chmerkovskiy made sure Johnson got the credit she deserved for her work on the dance when judge Bruno Tonioli praised the storytelling and the choreography.
"I would love to take a second and thank Jenna Johnson for not just bringing this dance to life as a dancer but as a choreographer," Chmerkovskiy shared. "It would not happen without her."

It’s often hard to talk about music without mentioning singers. From the flighty tones of Jeff Buckley to the earthy warble of Louis Armstrong, a great voice can help a record maintain legendary status long after its initial release. Even now, in an industry that increasingly thrives on memorable phrases and catchy, sing-a-long refrains, vocals can make all the difference between climbing to the top of the pile and fading into obscurity.
But what about the instruments behind the voices? Sometimes great tracks eschew singing altogether, relying instead on a mixture of intricate arrangements and technical prowess to make their mark on the musical landscape. Far from meaningless melodies, these tracks can weave elaborate narratives and conjure up a complex array of emotions – all without using a single word.
The power of a good instrumental is best summed up by legendary guitarist Carlos Santana: “I realised...

This series is incredible, if you haven't started watching yet it I suggest you do, because you're missing out on some pretty damn good storytelling. As you'll see in the trailer, next season is going to be packed full of intense drama.
Homeland returns for season 3 September 29th. The emmy-award winning series stars Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend, Morena Baccarin, and Morgan Saylor.
The trailer is set to the song, “To Build a Home” by The Cinematic Orchestra.

Last week, I wrote about the "Homeland" panel at press tour, and about producers Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon's thoughts looking back on season 2 and ahead to season 3. Today, Showtime released a trailer for the new season (it's the same one critics were shown before that panel), scored to The Cinematic Orchestra's "To Build A House." It gives you glimpses of what Carrie, Saul, Brody, Dana and others will look like this season, if not the exact context of where they are and what they're doing. If you don't want to know anything, obviously don't watch. The season premiere is on September...

The first "Homeland" trailer for Season 3 is here and you may want to grab your tissues or a stiff drink.
Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) and the rest of the Showtime drama's characters we've come to love, hate, and love to hate return for what looks like an incredibly emotional season, if the three-minute trailer above is any indication.
Set to The Cinematic Orchestra's "To Build A Home," the new "Homeland" trailer shows a bald Brody -- whose bullet hole in his back is just one of many injuries -- a very broken-down and hospitalized Carrie; a distraught Saul; a potential convert in Dana (Morgan Saylor); the Senate hearings into 12/12 attack, during which Carrie and Saul both "swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" ... so help them God; plenty of gun shots, explosions and much, much more.

A very Happy Sunday to everyone! This week we bring you a Renesmee Cullen themed video from Gessika101′s channel and is titled That Home || Renesmee Cullen and features That Home by The Cinematic Orchestra.
This is such a refreshing video about Renesmee incorporating clips from that outstanding new trailer. Edward, Bella, Jacob and the Cullens would leave no stone unturned to save Renesmee, as well as prevent annihilation by the Volturi. This video is a perfect depiction of their sincere attempts to thwart Aro’s maniacal ambitions. It is wonderful to see all the Cullen allies in the video, from the Denali clan to the Amazon clan, to the Egyptian clan, the nomads; Alistair and Garrett and even Dracula 1 and 2 or better known as the Romanians. It sure made me excited to watch Breaking Dawn Part 2, even as I am also sad that it’ll be the last we’ll see of our favourite vampires and wolves.
What do you think of the video? Does it make you excited to watch Breaking Dawn Part 2?...

A frakload of updates today. Let's start in Caprica City.
If you find yourself in Vancouver on Saturday, July 23, you can meet up with fellow BSG & Caprica fans for a guided tour of Kobol. For details, go to The 13th Colony blog.
CNN has a really great article about Ron Moore this week which is mainly about 17th Precinct, but pretty much covers most of his career. Here are a couple of quotes from David Eick and Jane Espenson:
"Ron is the scariest writer I know" his former producing partner recalls.
"I'm not sure there's anything he can't do remarkably well. Even within the context of 'Battlestar,' there was such a wild panoply of styles and emotions -- action, tragedy, melodrama, comedy, philosophy, even music -- all of which I watched him nail."
"But he's also weirdly unpretentious," Eick said. "We'd argue about whether something worked, but never...

You probably heard today’s Track of the Day in the lovely new trailer for Mike Cahill’s indie sci-fi drama Another Earth, where it is used perfectly. After all they aren’t called The Cinematic Orchestra for nothing. Their track “That Home” is a brief but really powerful song off of their 2007 album Ma Fleur. I would describe their style, especially this song, as a mix of Tindersticks and Explosions in the Sky with a little bit of The National thrown in for good measure. Anyways check out the song and also the trailer for Another Earth.

Writer/director Mike Cahill's intriguing sci-fi drama about a duplicate version of earth was picked up by Fox Searchlight after garnering buzz at last year's Sundance. It's a great premise and the haunting trailer has definitely peaked my interest. Fyi the song used is 'That Home' by The Cinematic Orchestra. It will screen at this year's Los Angeles Film Festival, which starts June 16th.
