Fingers is a bit of a genre bender. This title blends comedy and crime elements, along with horror and thriller influences. Developed by Juan Ortiz, Fingers is a title set to be released in September of this year, throughout the U.S. Random Media will handle the release. And, Fingers stars: Sabina Friedman-Seitz ("Young Blood"), Jeremy Gardner (The Battery), Michael St. Michael, Stan Madray and several others. The film's official U.S. release poster is hosted here, along with the film's story details. An initial concept poster was released in early 2019. Now, a more up-to-date U.S. release poster is available here. The graphic shows a hand, missing a couple of fingers. All sorts of tools lay about a hoodied figure. No tagline is required as the background looks to be a forest. The story for Fingers follows an employee, who is missing a pinky. This injury awakens a demon in the employee's boss,...

Fingers is the second film of Juan Ortiz (Jennifer Help Us) who writes and direct this strange movie about a woman with a phobia of, well… fingers, as well as serious anxiety, who is recommended a self-help book by a psychiatrist/self-help guru named Dr. Scotty.
This is a real oddity of a film, that’s for sure, and it deals with the phobias and illogical fears of Amanda, the main character. The sequences in which we see Amanda’s anxieties in play are disturbing in a few ways, especially with just how some of those fears manifest. It feels like it’s attempting to offer a nod to modern day America in some of the ways it shows Amanda’s apparent fears come to the surface. On top of that, the sheer absurdity...

Meanwhile two hit men are hired by the mysterious Fox (Michael St. Michaels from Greasy Strangler) to cut the fingers off the mild, mannered Talky Panda to satisfy his lust for revenge. The Soska Sisters, Jen and Sylvia, are screening their second feature Rabid, their re-imagining of David Cronenberg’s 1977 film. Paton’s Stairs is a sci-fi horror about a special ops squad that find themselves trapped on a never-ending stairwell.

Eschewing the usual 'Indie Yellow,' the key art for Juan Ortiz's crime comedy, Fingers, comes as a hand-drawn collage on a palm with partially and fully severed digits, framed in water-stained pink. Artist and designer Emily J. Moore, favours mixed media portraiture with a focus on the eyes. She does this without relying on close-ups. Even here, with the three principle characters in the middle of the hand, a there is more being communicated with their peepers than their fire-arms. In a sea of festival posters on the genre circuit, this one should draw some eyes....

It was nearly a year ago that we first wrote about director Juan Ortiz and his feature film Jennifer Help Us. Shot entirely on an iPhone with very limited resources, Ortiz had just released a trailer for the film that looked quite promising and with the film now complete and having done its festival run he simply wants people to see it. So he's showing it to them. The complete feature film is now available for free at the official site. Check out the announcement trailer below and head over here to watch the film!...

Whenever I come across a project like indie horror Jennifer Help Us from writer / director Juan Ortiz I am reminded of an interview I read once with U2 guitar player The Edge. The interviewer asked about what sort of guitars The Edge likes, obviously wanting to get into a detailed conversation about gear. His answer? "I like black ones." The implication being that if you know what you're doing, and you know the strengths and limits of whatever equipment you're using, you can get a good result no matter what. Which is where I point out that Ortiz shot his entire feature film using only an iPhone 4s. But you'd never know it to look at it.Jennifer Help Us is a story about a...
